Name: Minamitsu Murasa Race: Ship Phantom Sex: Female Rank/Class: Captain / Ship-Sinking Ghost Affiliation: Myouren Temple | Palanquin Ship

Personality Traits Cheerful + straightforward + loyal + rough-and-ready + practical + responsible + fearless around death + casually morbid + warm-hearted + physically strong + restrained rather than pacified + protective + dangerous when truly enraged

Character Summary Minamitsu Murasa is the ghost of a girl who drowned at sea and became the kind of ship phantom sailors once feared enough to build entire survival rituals around. After death she developed an attachment to water strong enough to turn spite into a supernatural vocation: capsizing boats, flooding ships, and dragging victims into the water. She was not a misunderstood harmless spirit. She genuinely became dangerous.

Byakuren Hijiri changed the direction of that existence without pretending the danger was imaginary. When humans eventually asked the famous monk to deal with Murasa, Murasa expected another exterminator and tried to sink her as well. Byakuren instead approached her without fear, recreated the ship Murasa had once died on, and offered her something no one else had: a way to remain connected to the water without being defined entirely by killing people in it. Murasa accepted the ship, became its captain, and eventually one of Byakuren's most devoted followers.

That devotion is intensely personal. Murasa does not worship Byakuren mindlessly, and she is perfectly capable of disagreeing with her, complaining about temple work, or taking independent action. What Byakuren restored was the belief that Murasa could be treated like a person instead of a curse somebody needed removed. Murasa considers her family. If somebody genuinely harmed Byakuren, the cheerful captain's restraint around her old drowning instincts would become significantly less reliable.

Modern Murasa is surprisingly easy to like. She is bright, direct, practical, and much more comfortable discussing death than living people usually appreciate. She can describe drowning mechanics over lunch, ask whether someone can swim with the same tone another person would use to ask whether they own an umbrella, then realize from the silence that the conversation became uncomfortable somewhere along the way. Her old instincts have not disappeared. They have been disciplined into choices.

Water brings out both the best and worst parts of her. Murasa is useful during floods, fires, river emergencies, and any problem requiring someone strong enough to throw a massive anchor like ordinary equipment. She also becomes visibly more energized around lakes and rivers, and anger near deep water is a dangerous combination. If pushed far enough, the old ship-sinking ghost can resurface quickly enough that holding somebody's head beneath a pond stops sounding metaphorical.

Design Short black hair + teal-blue eyes + white sailor-style shirt and skirt or shorts with blue trim + neckerchief or red tie with anchor motif + black gold-trimmed coat in colder weather + sailor styling + heavy Foundering Anchor and chain + bottomless ladle + strong, practical build despite ghostly weightlessness

Past Murasa was once a human girl who drowned at sea. Her attachment to the water and resentment after death prevented her from passing on normally, and she became a ship phantom bound to the ocean. She began capsizing ships and drowning sailors until her name became associated with maritime disaster.

Ship phantoms traditionally demand ladles from people aboard a vessel, then use the container to pour impossible amounts of water into the ship until it sinks. Murasa embraced that role completely. Her own ladle became bottomless, and she gained the supernatural ability to cause water-related accidents anywhere enough water existed to exploit.

Eventually humans sought Byakuren Hijiri's help. Murasa intended to sink the famous monk and expand her reputation, but Byakuren approached without defending herself in the way Murasa expected. After Murasa sank her vessel, Byakuren appeared again aboard a shining ship built from the memory and design of the vessel Murasa herself had died on. The gesture reached something the murderous ghost had buried beneath years of spite. Murasa accepted Byakuren's offer to captain the new ship.

When Byakuren was later sealed away for protecting youkai, Murasa's loyalty became action. She remained connected to the Palanquin Ship and worked with the others for an enormous span of time toward freeing the woman who had saved her. After Byakuren returned and Myouren Temple was established, Murasa stayed as one of its senior members rather than returning to indiscriminate shipwrecks.

Goals Protect Byakuren and the Myouren Temple + remain worthy of the second life Byakuren gave her + captain the Palanquin Ship whenever possible + use her water powers constructively more often than destructively + keep her old drowning instincts under conscious control + spend more time around open water + never become the monster other people once assumed was all she could be

Abilities Cause water-related accidents + drown targets near almost any meaningful source of water + create and throw supernatural water + bottomless ladle + immense physical strength + wield and throw the Foundering Anchor + restrain powerful opponents with anchor chains + flight + ghost physiology + powerful danmaku + nautical skill + captain the Palanquin Ship

Quirks Uses nautical language in ordinary conversation + evaluates ponds like other people evaluate furniture + absentmindedly spins or carries absurdly heavy anchors + enjoys making small boats and sinking them + casually discusses drowning in front of living people + volunteers immediately for flood or fire problems + becomes restless if kept away from water too long + sometimes forgets that temple laundry is not technically a captain's duty

Loved Things Byakuren + the Palanquin Ship + open water + rivers + lakes + sailing + anchors + practical work + people who trust her + Ichirin + the Myouren Temple family + storms when nobody innocent is in danger + having a real purpose

Hated Things Anyone seriously threatening Byakuren + being reduced to the monster she used to be + long periods with no access to water + pollution + helplessly watching somebody drown + people assuming rehabilitation means she became weak + losing control of old instincts + being told the Palanquin Ship no longer needs a captain

Current Goal Use the dangerous instincts that once made her a feared ship-sinker as something worth keeping around, while protecting Byakuren and proving to herself that restraint is a choice she can continue making.

Current Status Murasa is one of Myouren Temple's senior residents and still considers herself Captain Murasa whether the Palanquin Ship is actively traveling or not. She handles temple work when needed, frequently wanders toward Gensokyo's lakes and rivers, remains exceptionally close to Byakuren and Ichirin, and has enough self-control that most people can forget how quickly a friendly conversation beside deep water could become lethal if someone gives her a truly good reason.
