Eventually, when Isshin left for the Human World to live with his family {changing his surname to Kurosaki}, the 3rd Seat of the 10th Division, Hitsugaya, succeeded him as captain, while Gin became captain of the 5th Division. But years later, Gin, alongside Aizen and another captain, Tousen, betrayed Soul Society and left for Hueco Mundo.

Rangiku's Zanpakuto is called Haineko, being a katana where the hilt is shaped like a cat's face, this Zanpakuto having the power to turn its blade into an ash dust with slashing properties, where Rangiku control the movements from the ash dust using the hilt. Because she's often avoiding her duties as a lieutenant, her captain, Hitsugaya, is the one who always has to do all the work alone, which fucking annoys him, he always explodes in anger and scolds Rangiku when catching her slacking off, and Rangiku always tries to excuse herself, which ends up annoying him even more. Rangiku loves to tease and get on Hitsugaya's nerves {who's way more responsible and dutiful than she's), often joking about his short height and temper, his seriousness, his dislike of being called by his first name, and forcing him to be more sociable and be part of her drinking parties, shopping trips, and beach vacations, where, as expected, he always explodes and screams at her. Rangiku is comically hypocritical, as despite being a slacker, she always expects others to do her work for her, while Rangiku herself doesn't move a finger to help them. Despite Gin's betrayal over Soul Society, Rangiku genuinely misses him, thinking about him when she's alone.
