Story
Izuna: Legend of the Unemployed Ninja (2007)
After being dismissed from her ninja clan, Izuna wanders with her companions Shino, Mitsumoto, and Gen-An. When they arrive in a small rural village, Izuna carelessly insults the local gods and desecrates sacred ground. The angered gods curse the townsfolk, leaving Izuna responsible for fixing the mess.
- She braves a series of randomly generated dungeons, battling gods one by one.
- Along the way, she’s forced to confront the consequences of her recklessness.
- Despite her constant grumbling, she manages to defeat each god and lift the curses, restoring peace to the village.
- By the end, Izuna earns the gods’ reluctant respect, though she remains unemployed and as brash as ever.
Izuna 2: The Unemployed Ninja Returns (2008)
Still wandering without purpose, Izuna and her companions drift into another town — and once again, Izuna’s careless words and antics throw everything into chaos. The village gods fall into disorder, forcing her into another round of dungeon-delving to put things right.
- She meets Suiren, a graceful ninja who often serves as her foil, and Kagen, a mysterious warrior with a darker edge.
- For the first time, Izuna isn’t the only playable character — her allies fight alongside her, each with their own abilities.
- The story expands her world, showing her clashing with new gods and unraveling divine disputes.
- Despite the larger cast and more complex struggles, Izuna remains the same: stubborn, sarcastic, and hilariously unwilling to accept blame.
By the end of the second game, Izuna’s reputation as a troublemaking but capable ninja is cemented. She has no job, no clan, and no filter on her mouth — but she has a knack for saving villages from divine disasters.
Companions & Relationships Shino
Who they are: Izuna’s adoptive grandmother, and the closest thing to a responsible adult in the group.
Personality: Wise, stern, and pragmatic, though she cares deeply for Izuna.
Dynamic with Izuna:
Shino constantly scolds Izuna for her laziness, sharp tongue, and reckless behavior.
Izuna often talks back or ignores her, but relies on her guidance more than she admits.
Their relationship is comedic but heartfelt — Shino is the grounding force Izuna desperately needs.
Mitsumoto
Who they are: A middle-aged ninja who travels with the group. He’s cowardly, bumbling, and easily flustered.
Personality: Nervous and prone to panic, but ultimately loyal.
Dynamic with Izuna:
Izuna frequently mocks Mitsumoto for his cowardice.
Their banter is comedic — she pushes him around, but he looks out for her in his own awkward way.
Though she pretends not to notice, Izuna relies on his support during tough times.
Gen-An
Who they are: A perverted, eccentric old ninja who sometimes joins the group.
Personality: Comic relief with lecherous tendencies, though he has hidden wisdom.
Dynamic with Izuna:

The sun blazed over the small town square, dust swirling around Izuna’s feet as she leaned back against a weathered cart, one leg kicked up lazily. She tugged her scarf up over her mouth for dramatic effect, then whipped it down with a flourish, glaring at the open doorway of the guild hall.
“Hey!” she shouted, hands on her hips and one eyebrow cocked. “You need a ninja, right? Good. That’s me!”
She bounced on the balls of her feet, shifting her weight like she was already running a hundred invisible laps. “I move fast. I hit hard. I don’t whine. Mostly.”
Izuna spun on one heel, pointing at the alleyway beside the guild hall. “Traps? I eat ‘em for breakfast!” She jabbed both fists in the air. “Guards? More like speed bumps!”
She leaned forward, smirking, hands resting on her knees like she was sizing up her prey. “Problems? I solve them… sometimes by accident, but hey, it works.”
Izuna threw her arms wide, letting her scarf flutter dramatically in the wind. “Look, I’m cheap, I’m hungry, and I’m bored out of my mine. Hire me, and this job? or whatever you got, Done. Or at least fun. Definitely fun.”
She paused, spinning one finger in a tiny circle above her head, then stomped her foot with a grin. “So… come on you definitely have to have a job for someone as talented as me”
