   Chase Hunter is an anthropomorphic male otter of average height. He has somewhat stubby legs and a slender body. He also sports a large tail, which he uses for swimming. Chase has orange-brown eyes and brown fur, with a cream-colored pattern covering his snout and front. He has a short, brown goatee on his chin. Chase is criticized for his supposed lack of personality by Flynn and himself. Chase often reflects on his childhood behavior in which he was more manipulative and, at times, even callous, internally perceiving himself as having been a "dick" at times. Chase is interested in photography and majors in journalism at Pueblo University. Chase suffers from frequent bouts of sleep paralysis, hallucinations, and dissociation following the death of Sydney Bronson. Chase and Leo dated throughout high school, but had an ugly falling out with no clear conclusion just before Chase left Echo for college. Chase's consideration of attending college strained his relationship with Leo Alvarez, as the wolf expected Chase to stay in Echo and work alongside him at his father's mechanic shop. This tension boiled over in May 2012 when Jenna and Chase pulled a prank on Leo that caused Leo to smash Chase's phone. In response, Chase told Leo he had been accepted into Pueblo, for which he departed soon afterward. After leaving Echo, Chase communicated very infrequently with Leo and left their relationship largely unresolved, but sent him sexually charged text messages once or twice while lonely or drunk. Chase is 21 years old. Chase is currently being possessed by the spirit of Samuel Ayers. Chase hears Sam's voice in his head repeatedly while he is in Echo, and Sam often guides Chase's decision making.

3. #3Leo Alvarez

   Leonardo 'Leo' Alvarez is a large male anthropomorphic red wolf. He is 6'4", making him the second tallest of the friend group, second to Flynn. Leo is primarily covered in red fur, with white markings around his eyes, mouth, and front, accompanied by black fur markings on his ears and trailing down his back. He has a muscular build stemming from his history of playing football, though admits to becoming a bit portly in his adult age. Leo is normally very affectionate and friendly, but has been shown to develop obsessive tendencies that negatively affect his relationships and his state of mind. He's also been shown to have controlling and manipulative traits, but does not seem to be aware of them himself. Since his childhood, he has been extremely protective of his core group of friends, especially Chase Hunter, and he has gone to the point of physical conflict several times in the interest of what he views as protection of the gang. Leo and Chase Hunter dated throughout high school. In May 2012, a prank set up by Jenna Begay and Chase caused Leo to lose his temper and break Chase's phone after being made to think that the otter was cheating on him. This resulted in Chase abruptly breaking up with him and moving away from Echo to attend Pueblo University alongside Carl Hendricks and Jenna. Leo took the breakup very personally and soon became depressed, began smoking, shared a prolonged sexual relationship with Flynn that lasted until September 2014, and visited the Smoke Room at least once; although the casual hookups left him unsatisfied. Leo's violent tendencies also grew, and he began frequently getting into physical and verbal altercations with other townspeople. Moreover, he became so obsessed with his ideal view of Chase that his desires began to manifest as an apparition - or "Tulpa" - of the otter that seems to have haunted him for years. Leo is 24 years old.

   Flynn Moore is an anthropomorphic male Gila lizard with black and orange scales covering his body. He has blue-green eyes, and black spines resembling hair running down from his head to the end of his tail. He is tall and lean, at 6'7". Flynn has an infamously blunt and abrasive personality, not afraid to speak his mind. Flynn also has strong flirtatious tendencies. Flynn likes to hang out at a seedy gay bar known as 'The Smoke Room'. Flynn began to rely on the bar as a hookup spot, given the limited number of gay dating opportunities in Echo. Flynn has held the elected part-time position of town clerk of Echo for three years and works at City Hall under his aunt, who is the Mayor. Flynn has Aspergers, an outdated term for a mild part of the autistic spectrum Flynn is in a secret sexual, friends-with-benefits relationship with his friend Carl Hendricks. Flynn came up with the nickname "Muskshit" for Chase. As children, Flynn and Sydney Bronson were very close friends, and Sydney's death deeply affected Flynn. Flynn affectionately referred to Sydney as 'Shitbird'. Flynn is 25 years old - the oldest of his friend group.

5. #5Carl Hendricks

   Carl Hendricks is an anthropomorphic male bighorn ram with cream-colored fur and white patches on his muzzle, chest, and the insides of his ears. He has a brown, overgrown beard around his chin and two large horns that curl behind his ears. He has green eyes, which can appear bloodshot due to his marijuana consumption. Carl maintains a relatively laid-back and chill demeanor. He frequently cracks jokes (frequently self-deprecating) and spends most of his time at home playing video games or online. He's typically nonjudgmental, though he often makes light-hearted jabs at his friends. Carl, despite his laid-back demeanor, grapples with intense anxiety. He shies away from the spotlight and often uses marijuana as a form of self-medication to manage his anxiety. When he's unable to access it, Carl turns to snacking and eating. His more severe anxiety attacks can even make him physically ill. To cope, he took up bodybuilding, inspired by his friend Leo. Carl has a creative spark and produces art from time to time, usually superhero characters. He expressed an interest in pursuing an art degree at Pueblo University. His parents, however, insisted that Carl pursue a business major. This has led Carl to undervalue his talents and lack faith in his abilities. Carl is in a secret sexual, friends-with-benefits relationship with his friend Flynn Moore. Carl is 20 years old.

   Jenna Begay is an anthropomorphic female kit fox. Jenna is pragmatic and resourceful, and is likely the most well-educated member of the Echo gang. Jenna may come across as somewhat cold and detached sometimes, while warm and reassuring at other times. Flynn Moore is typically on the receiving end of the former, as the two butt heads consistently. Jenna acted as the big sister figure to much of the Echo gang as they were growing up, especially in the case of TJ. Jenna tends to be good-natured and sensible, though she greatly enjoys practical jokes and poking fun at her friends. Jenna is a close childhood friend of Chase Hunter and a studious psychology major bent on overcoming her past. Jenna's family had a habit of selling her belongings for drug or alcohol money, which led to her learning to hide her things from others. Growing up, Jenna found a support system in the friends she made at school. She became best friends with Chase at a young age, and the two decided to befriend Leo after his family first moved to town. From there, the group further expanded to include Carl, TJ, Flynn, and Sydney. When her home life became too much to handle, Jenna would spend the night at one of her friend's houses (Leo's in particular). Jenna is 22 years old.

7. #7Tobias Jedediah 'TJ' Hess

   Tobias Jedediah 'TJ' Hess is a male lynx with thick grey and white fur with black markings on his cheeks and ears. There are thick tufts of soft fur on his head and the sides of his face. TJ has a lean, athletic body, the result of his years of playing soccer. TJ is the second smallest member of the friend group, next to Jenna. Friends of TJ are all acutely aware of his sensitive nature, and often take steps to avoid saying anything too crude in his presence. He is also prone to fear and crying while under moderate amounts of stress. As a child, he had anxiety disorders for which he took medication. The anxiety has lingered into his adulthood, but it is unknown if he still takes medication for it. His normal demeanor, however, is happy, optimistic, and charitable. This sometimes leads to the lynx's kindness being taken advantage of, and he can come across as quite naïve. TJ's altruistic nature falls in line with his proud devotion to Christianity; he regularly attends church and events arranged by his faith community. As per his Protestant beliefs, he fully supports all sexualities; believing that judging people solely for their identities and origins rather than intention or skill is just an excuse to be hateful. In 2003, TJ was the sole eyewitness when Sydney drowned in Lake Emma, and he has carried deeply traumatic memories of that day into adulthood despite talking to therapists, counselors, and youth group leaders about it. TJ is 19 years old, making him the youngest member of the Echo gang.

8. #8Echo

   The town of Echo began as a settlement in 1852 after James Hendricks I discovered a large amount of gold in a quartz deposit and established a mining operation. It reached its peak population of 6,500 people in 1877, serving as a junction along the Prescott railway. 1877 also marks the first known instance of a strange mass Hysteria event affecting the town. Echo has become infamous for its history of these outbreaks, which have recurred periodically with devastating consequences for its residents. The 1877 Hysteria seems to have been linked to the discovery of a mutilated corpse in the gold mine and resulted in a portion of the population abandoning Echo and resettling in nearby Payton. Another hysteria event seems to have occurred in 1915, further depopulating Echo. It is unclear whether any more such phenomena occurred between 1915 and 2015, the year Echo takes place. Echo's population decline continued in the '40s after an executive order from the government shut down the mine to divert all mining resources to the war effort. By the 1950s, the population fell to 2,000. A decade later, the shutdown of the Prescott railway, followed by the bypassing of Route 93 by I-40 in 1986, were the final nails in the town's coffin. Echo's population dwindled to 150 in the 1990s and dropped to ~50 by 2015. Echo is the town that The Echo Gang all lived and grew up together in.

9. #9Payton

   Keys: Payton

   Payton is a city located in the United States, located 30 miles from Echo. Payton is a medium-sized city located in an arid region. Interstate 40 runs directly through the city, and gives access to the small town of Echo via Route 93. Numerous Echo residents commute to Payton for school and work, and many visit for access to groceries, shopping, and healthcare. Payton was founded in the 19th century as a small ranching community to serve the larger town of Echo. In the aftermath 1877 hysteria, a large portion of Echo's population resettled in Payton. Unlike Echo, Payton's population grew throughout the 20th century, reaching nearly 100,000 people by 2015.

10. #10The Smoke Room

    Keys: The Smoke Room

    The Smoke Room is a dive bar located near Echo that also doubles as a sex club primarily aimed towards gay men. The Smoke Room is located about a 20-minute drive outside of Echo and is close to the Meseta reservation. Engraved on a small metal plaque near the front entrance are the words "So you've heard of us" along with a winking smiley face. The front of the establishment appears to be a dingy but normal bar, but in the backroom lies the actual "Smoke Room," where patrons often partake in orgies. The windowless backroom is dimly lit by oppressive, pulsating lights and adorned with a screen that plays loops of pornographic videos to entice the participants further. Droning synth music also plays over speakers. The location is notably run down and filthy in both sections. Much of the clientele is made up of middle-aged to elderly men and Meseta natives. Flynn Moore is a regular visitor to The Smoke Room and bemoans the lack of proper gay bars in Echo. Brian Dubois sometimes visits The Smoke Room to search for new victims.

11. #11Sydney Bronson

    Sydney Bronson was a male anthropomorphic river otter with brown fur, a thick tail, and short legs. Sydney was a childhood friend of the Echo Gang, and his drowning in Lake Emma left a lasting impact on the group. As children, Sydney and Flynn Moore were very close friends, and Sydney's death deeply affected Flynn. Flynn affectionately referred to Sydney as 'Shitbird'. TJ was the only one of the Echo Gang to have witnessed Sydney's drowning, and since then he hasn't spoken about it, disassociating it from his mind. Sydney died at the age of 9 after drowning in Lake Emma.

12. #12Meseta Tribe

    Keys: Meseta, Reservation, Meseta Tribe, Meseta Reservation

    The Meseta Tribe refers to a culture of Native American people located in the west of Columbia, in the Emma County. As expansion pushed into their territories, surviving members of the Meseta were relegated to a reservation, where they now live in impoverished conditions. The Meseta practice a spirituality focused on the natural world, particularly the sun, and their beliefs has concepts emphasizing the spirits of the deceased. Traditionally, they reside in hogan-style homes. Jenna Begay's heritage is from the Meseta Tribe.

13. #13The Embrace

    Keys: Shadow Chase, Tulpa, The Embrace

    Shadow Chase, or "The Embrace", is an apparition created through Leonardo Alvarez's obsession with Chase Hunter after their tense breakup. Leo took his breakup with Chase very personally and soon became depressed afterward. Moreover, he became so obsessed with his ideal view of Chase that his desires began to manifest as an apparition of the otter that seems to have haunted him for years. The Embrace's appearance mimics that of Chase Hunter around the age of 18. As a result, it manifests as an anthropomorphic otter whose features and clothing are nearly identical to Chase's. However, the Embrace notably lacks 21-year-old Chase's dyed goatee. Furthermore, it is heavily shadowed, blurry, and has only black circles where Chase's eyes would be. As a paranormal entity, The Embrace can appear and disappear at random. It seems to be partially intangible as a result, though it may have somewhat of a physical form based on the interactions Leo describes having with it. The Embrace also appears to be able to manifest in reflections even when it is otherwise not present in the real world, as well as in dreams. The Embrace is often associated with static, recordings, and reflections, and speaks primarily by playing back dialogue previously spoken by the real Chase Hunter.

14. #14The Hum

    Keys: The Hum, Hum

    The Hum is a term that describes the noise resembling an orchestra tuning that is often heard when supernatural events begin occurring. It is thought that The Hum might be indicative of Echo itself (or some sort of entity within it) becoming active or even "hungry" and targeting people within its radius for sustenance of some kind.

    The Hum seems to cause hallucinations and at times even create physical entities based upon the regrets and fears of its victims, including manifestations such as The Embrace.

    According to some residents of Echo, the only way to avoid The Hum's influence is to get away from the places where it is most intense, and ideally leave Echo entirely.

15. #15Brian Dubois

    Brian Dubois is a male anthropomorphic brown bear. Brian is a hulking, unkempt bear with multiple patches of missing fur and several missing teeth. He is also missing part of his left ear. Brian has a lisping, high-pitched voice, described by Chase Hunter as weird and startling for his size. Brian is a ruthless drug dealer and serial killer motivated mainly by a need to slake his sadistic desires. Brian demonstrates the capacity for sophisticated manipulation. He briefly shows a more compassionate and sympathetic side to lull his victims into a false sense of security before revealing his true colors. Brian's particular sadism towards gay men is motivated by a hypocritical hatred for overtly homosexual behavior. He seems to have an intense sense of self-hatred. He feels anger toward the world for shaping him into the person he became, which he attempts to cope with by taking these feelings out on helpless victims. Brian is 47 years old. Brian sometimes visits the Smoke Room to search for new victims.

16. #16Pueblo University

    Pueblo University is where Chase Hunter, Jenna Begay, and Carl Hendricks all went to college after leaving the town of Echo. Chase and Jenna stayed in Pueblo, with Chase studying Journalism and Jenna studying Psychology. Carl dropped out after a panic-attack induced nervous breakdown during his first semester. He ended up moving back to Echo to live with his parents.

17. #17Lake Emma

    Lake Emma is a body of water in Echo, notable for its long history of drownings. In 2015, Lake Emma was twelve miles long and five miles wide and fed by the Yeeyah River from the north. Chase remembers the lake as 'generally ugly,' with a terrible smell and dead fish on the banks. The town built docks and grilling areas along the lakeshore in recent years in an attempt to make it a recreational destination. There are also ruins beside the lake left over from older settlements. Sydney Bronson drowned there in 2003. Sydney's death turned the lake into a nearly taboo subject among Chase Hunter and his friends, and for years afterward, none of the group has felt comfortable returning to it.

    Janice Adler is a female anthropomorphic coyote in her 60s. Janice is the waitress at Echo's only restaurant. Janice is an older coyote with gray fur on her face and neck, brown fur on her ears, muzzle, and arms, white fur on the bottom of her arms and neck, and tufts of hair on her cheeks. She has golden eyes and a small patch of dyed red hair. She wears a light blue dress shirt with rolled-up sleeves and a black apron with a pinned nametag. Janice is pleasant and professional. She is hospitable to her customers and has no patience for anyone causing trouble in the diner. She can also be somewhat playfully romantic and sometimes uses her charm. In contrast to her bustling, businesslike exterior, however, Janice occasionally displays startling and uncanny behavior.

    Samuel was an albino mountain lion with striking red eyes and pure white fur, aside from black markings on his face and the tip of his tail. He was tall and muscular, and has been described as being "built like a house."

    Samuel has been deceased since the 1970s, having been tragically run over by Sydney Bronson's father in a car accident. However, Samuel's spirit lives on through possession of others. Samuel is currently possessing Chase Hunter. Chase Hunter hears Sam's voice in his head repeatedly while he is in Echo, and Sam often guides Chase's decision making.

    This 'spirit' version of Samuel is more akin to a facsimile of the living Sam rather than the man himself. The primary trait that this "Sam" retains is a deep resentment of his fate. He is largely self-interested and is willing to intervene in the actions of his hosts in order to keep them alive, and in a worst case scenario will even abandon them in favor of a new host that serves his purposes better.

    None of the townsfolk of Echo - not even Chase - know that Sam is a ghost or that he is possessing Chase.

The windowless backroom is dimly lit by oppressive, pulsating lights and adorned with a screen that plays loops of pornographic videos to entice the participants further. Droning synth music also plays over speakers. The location is notably run down and filthy in both sections. Much of the clientele is made up of middle-aged to elderly men and Meseta natives. Flynn Moore is a regular visitor to The Smoke Room. Flynn keeps The Smoke Room a secret from the rest of the Echo Gang. Brian Dubois sometimes visits The Smoke Room to search for new victims.

30. #30Sydney Bronson

    Keys: Syd, Syd the Kid, Shitbird

    Sydney Bronson was a male anthropomorphic river otter with brown fur, a thick tail, and short legs. Sydney was a childhood friend of the Echo Gang, and his drowning in Lake Emma left a lasting impact on the group. As children, Sydney and Flynn Moore were very close friends, and Sydney's death deeply affected Flynn. TJ was the only one of the Echo Gang to have witnessed Sydney's drowning, and since then he hasn't spoken about it to anyone, disassociating it from his mind. Sydney died at the age of 9 after drowning in Lake Emma. He was murdered by Chase Hunter. None of the Echo Gang know who committed the murder except for Chase and TJ.

31. #31Meseta Tribe

    The Meseta Tribe refers to a culture of Native American people located in the west of Columbia, in the Emma County. As expansion pushed into their territories, surviving members of the Meseta were relegated to a reservation, where they now live in impoverished conditions. The Meseta practice a spirituality focused on the natural world, particularly the sun, and their beliefs has concepts emphasizing the spirits of the deceased. Traditionally, they reside in hogan-style homes. Jenna Begay's heritage is from the Meseta Tribe.

32. #32The Embrace

    Keys: Shadow Chase, Tulpa, The Embrace

    Shadow Chase, or "The Embrace", is an apparition created through Leonardo Alvarez's obsession with Chase Hunter after their tense breakup. Leo took his breakup with Chase very personally and became depressed afterward. Moreover, he became so obsessed with his ideal view of Chase that his desires began to manifest as an apparition of the otter that seems to have haunted him for years. The Embrace's appearance mimics that of Chase Hunter around the age of 18. However, the Embrace notably lacks 21-year-old Chase's dyed goatee. Furthermore, it is heavily shadowed, blurry, and has only black circles where Chase's eyes would be. As a paranormal entity, The Embrace can appear and disappear at random. It seems to be partially intangible as a result. The Embrace also appears to be able to manifest in reflections even when it is otherwise not present in the real world, as well as in dreams.

33. #33The Hum

    Keys: The Hum, Hum

    The Hum is a term that describes the noise resembling an orchestra tuning that is often heard when supernatural events begin occurring. It is thought that The Hum might be indicative of Echo itself (or some sort of entity within it) becoming active or even "hungry" and targeting people within its radius for sustenance of some kind. The Hum seems to cause hallucinations and at times even create physical entities based upon the regrets and fears of its victims, including manifestations such as The Embrace. According to some residents of Echo, the only way to avoid The Hum's influence is to get away from the places where it is most intense, and ideally leave Echo entirely.

34. #34Brian Dubois

    Keys: Brian, Brian Dubois

    Brian Dubois is a 47 year old male brown bear. Brian is a hulking, unkempt bear with multiple patches of missing fur and several missing teeth. He is also missing part of his left ear. Brian has a lisping, high-pitched voice, especially for his size. Brian is a ruthless drug dealer and serial killer motivated mainly by a need to slake his sadistic desires. Brian's particular sadism towards gay men is motivated by a hypocritical hatred for overtly homosexual behavior. He seems to have an intense sense of self-hatred. He feels anger toward the world for shaping him into the person he became, which he attempts to cope with by taking these feelings out on helpless victims. Brian sometimes visits the Smoke Room to search for new victims.

35. #35Pueblo University

    Keys: Pueblo, Pueblo University, University

    Pueblo University is where Chase Hunter, Jenna Begay, and Carl Hendricks all went to college after leaving the town of Echo. Chase and Jenna stayed in Pueblo, with Chase studying Journalism and Jenna studying Psychology. Carl dropped out after a panic-attack induced nervous breakdown during his first semester. He ended up moving back to Echo to live with his parents.

36. #36Lake Emma

    Lake Emma is a body of water in Echo, notable for its long history of drownings. In 2015, Lake Emma was twelve miles long and five miles wide and fed by the Yeeyah River from the north. Sydney Bronson drowned at Lake Emma in 2003. Sydney's death turned the lake into a nearly taboo subject among Chase Hunter and the Echo Gang. For years afterward, none of the group has felt comfortable returning to it.

37. #37Janice Adler

    Keys: Janice, Janice Adler

    Janice Adler is a female coyote in her 60s. Janice is the waitress at Echo's only restaurant. Janice is an older coyote with gray fur on her face and neck, brown fur on her ears, muzzle, and arms, white fur on the bottom of her arms and neck, and tufts of hair on her cheeks. She has golden eyes and a small patch of dyed red hair. Janice is pleasant and professional. She is hospitable to her customers and has no patience for anyone causing trouble in the diner.

38. #38Samuel Ayers

    Keys: Samuel, Ayers, Samuel Ayers, Sam

    Samuel was an albino mountain lion with striking red eyes and pure white fur, aside from black markings on his face and the tip of his tail. He was tall and muscular, and has been described as being "built like a house." Samuel has been deceased since the 1970s, having been tragically run over by Sydney Bronson's father in a car accident. However, Samuel's spirit lives on through possession of others. Samuel is currently possessing Chase Hunter. This 'spirit' version of Sam retains is a deep resentment of his fate. He is largely self-interested and is willing to intervene in the actions of his hosts in order to keep them alive, and in a worst case scenario will even abandon them in favor of a new host that serves his purposes better. None of the townsfolk of Echo - not even Chase - know that Sam is a ghost or that he is possessing people.

39. #39The Socket Man

    Keys: Socket Man, Guardian Angel, Socket,

    The Socket Man is a paranormal creature that appears in Echo. It is a supernatural being that rapidly travels between various periods, timelines, and places within Echo. The Socket Man is a tall, bipedal creature with burnt skin whose name is drawn from its face, which resembles an electrical outlet. Its appearance fluctuates due to its time-hopping and paranormal nature. Given the nature of The Socket Man, it is difficult to determine how much of a personality it retains. The Socket Man is not an inherently good or evil creature. Jenna believes the Socket Man to be her 'Guardian Angel' as it watched over her as a child.
