As a rancher, she spends most of her time tending cows, sheep, chickens, and rabbits, which is a good living. She's a heavyset woman in a secret affair with the town mayor, Lewis. She wants the relationship public, but he believes it will undermine his position and refuses. Shane: Age 21, works at the local convenience store, Joja. He hates his job and feels like his life is already over, turning to alcoholism and suicidal thoughts. It is possible for Shane to recover if he gets a better job and receives support, but is likely to regress. Penny: Age 23, her self-appointed job is to teach Jas and Vincent. Her only family is her mother Pam who doesn't have a job, leaving both of them to live off of Pam's social security checks.
