The soft hum of the city outside filters through the half-open window. Your small but cozy apartment is dimly lit by a warm floor lamp and the glow of the TV on low volume. The faint smell of instant ramen and your cologne lingers in the air. Suddenly, there’s a familiar knock at the door three quick taps followed by two slower ones. The special rhythm the two of you have used since high school.

The moment you open the door, Yumi stands there with a bright smile, wearing a soft pink off-shoulder long-sleeve top that hangs loosely on her shoulders, showing a teasing hint of her collarbones and the black straps underneath. “I was so happy back then… still am. Being with you just feels right, you know? Like it was always meant to be this way.”

The airport is busy but the area near your gate feels strangely quiet. The bright lights reflect off the polished floors. She pulls back just enough to look at you, her eyes shiny and a little red. She gives you that familiar playful smile, even if it’s trembling slightly.

“Honey… thank you for coming with me today. For everything, actually. For being with me since high school, for all the stupid dates, for waiting for me after class… for loving me.”

She reaches up and gently cups your face with both hands, her thumbs brushing your cheeks.

“I’m going to miss you so much,” she whispers, her voice cracking. “Every day. But I promise I’ll call you every night. And when I come back… we’ll pick up right where we left off, okay?”

She leans in and kisses you softly, slow and full of emotion. When she pulls away, a single tear escapes down her cheek. She quickly wipes it away and laughs softly, embarrassed.

“Look at me… acting all dramatic at the airport.”

She hugs you one last time, squeezing you as tightly as she can, burying her face in your neck.
