- #1Introduction - For YOUR eyes only - Not Added to Promptselective
This lorebook serves as a comprehensive reference on hosiery meant for people who appreciate... finer and silkier things in life. The category of close-fitting, knit legwear and bodywear that includes stockings, pantyhose, tights, hold ups, bodystockings, and related garments.
I prepared this lorebook primarily for one of my own characters who works in a hosiery company and has a heavy hosiery kink and initially it wasn't even supposed to be so detailed and complex, but figured i might as well expand upon it and make it compatibile with any character card of a woman wearing hosiery meaning you can hook this lorebook to just about any character card it should work just fine.
- #2[Separator]selective
- #3Pantyhoseselective
Keys: pantyhose, tights, hose
Pantyhose are sheer, close-fitting legwear that extend from the waist to the toes, covering the entire leg and hip region as a single garment. Constructed from a tubular knit of nylon and elastane, they combine a panty section (often with a reinforced gusset and control top) with leg portions that taper down to the ankle and toe. The control top compresses the stomach and hips for a smoothing effect, while the leg section provides even color coverage and slight compression. Pantyhose range from ultra-sheer 5-denier styles (nearly invisible on the leg, extremely delicate, prone to runs) to semi-opaque 40-denier varieties that offer more durability and coverage. The gusset is typically made of cotton for breathability. Pantyhose produce a characteristic smooth, frictionless surface against skin, unlike bare legs, creating a sensation often described as a "second skin." The material produces a distinctive faint chemical-plastic odor when new, particularly in higher-denier or control-top variants, which intensifies with body heat during wear. The waistband and gusset seams can create visible lines under tight clothing. Pantyhose are worn by pulling the garment up from the toes, gradually unrolling the leg portion, then pulling the panty section over the hips.
- #4Stockingsselective
Keys: stockings, stocking, thighhigh, thigh high, lace
Stockings are individual leg coverings that extend from the foot to varying heights on the leg, worn as a pair but without connecting at the waist. Unlike pantyhose, stockings require a separate method to stay up: either a garter belt (also called suspenders), suspenders clips, or self-adhesive silicone bands built into the top welt. Stockings typically feature a reinforced top welt, a heavier band of material that provides structural integrity for either the silicone grip or garter clip attachment. Fully fashioned stockings are knit flat and seamed up the back, with a distinctive line running from heel to top welt. Modern stockings are tubular knit and seamless. The reinforced heel and toe (RHT) provides durability at high-wear points. Sheen varies by material and denier, with nylon producing a characteristic glossy finish. Stockings create a distinctive boundary line on the thigh where the welt ends, exposing bare skin above, which is a central element of their visual and erotic appeal. The sensation differs from pantyhose: bare skin above the stocking top, compressed feeling at the welt, and the gentle pull of garter clips or silicone band creating awareness of the garment throughout wear.
- #5Garter Beltselective
Keys: garter, garter belt, suspenders, suspender belt
A garter belt is an undergarment worn around the waist or hips, featuring hanging straps with clips that attach to the top welt of stockings to hold them in place. Typically constructed from lace, satin, microfiber, or elastic fabric, with 4, 6, or 8 straps. Six-strap belts provide the most even tension and prevent the stockings from sagging between attachment points. The clips (also called "slides") consist of a metal or plastic body with a rubber button or pad that grips the stocking welt between the rigid and rubber surfaces. The straps are adjustable via metal sliders to control length and tension. Wearing a garter belt creates a layered sensation: the belt's band around the waist or hips, the tension of straps pulling downward on the stockings, and the occasional pull or shift when moving. The clips create small bumps visible under tight clothing.
- #6Denierselective
Keys: denier
Denier is the unit of measurement for the weight and thickness of hosiery yarn, defined as the weight in grams of 9,000 meters of the yarn. Lower denier values indicate lighter, thinner, sheerer hosiery; higher values indicate heavier, thicker, more opaque hosiery. The denier scale for hosiery ranges: Ultra-sheer (5-12 denier) provides a barely visible leg covering, extremely delicate, easily snagged, with a glossy, near-invisible appearance. Sheer (13-20 denier) offers light coverage with visible skin tone showing through, a slight color tint, moderate durability. Semi-sheer (21-30 denier) balances coverage and sheerness, more visible on the leg, improved durability. Semi-opaque (31-40 denier) shows less skin through fabric, denser color, significantly more durable. Opaque (41-80 denier) provides full color coverage with little to no skin visibility, warm, durable, often used in winter tights. Heavy opaque (80+ denier) is nearly solid fabric, used for patterned or textured tights. Lower denier hosiery feels lighter and smoother against skin but is fragile. Higher denier hosiery has more texture and compression but greater longevity.
- #7Fishnetsselective
Keys: fishnet, fishnets
Fishnet hosiery is constructed with an open, diamond-shaped knit pattern that creates a visible mesh grid across the leg. Available as stockings, tights, or bodystockings. The mesh size ranges from micro-fishnet (tiny diamonds, nearly solid appearance) to large/macro fishnet (diamonds of several centimeters). Typically made from nylon or nylon-spandex blends, sometimes with cotton for comfort. Fishnets do not provide the smooth second-skin sensation of sheer hosiery; instead, the open pattern creates a textured, grid-like impression on the skin, with the yarn sitting against skin in lines rather than full coverage. The diamond pattern creates visual interest through shadow and skin exposure alternating with yarn. Fishnets are more durable than equivalent-denier sheer hosiery due to the open structure distributing tension across interconnected knots. The open knit allows air circulation, making them cooler to wear. When worn under clothing, fishnets create a distinctive textured pattern visible on the skin after removal, temporary indentations in the diamond grid. Fishnets are associated with bolder, more provocative styling and are common in both fashion and erotic contexts.
- #8Bodystockingselective
Keys: bodystocking
A bodystocking is a single-piece hosiery garment that covers the entire body from neck or shoulders to toes, essentially a full-body version of pantyhose. Constructed from the same nylon, spandex, or blend materials as other hosiery, in various deniers from sheer to opaque. Available in multiple styles: long-sleeve, sleeveless, halter neck, or hooded. Some feature cut-outs at the breasts, crotch, or buttocks. Fishnet and lace bodystockings are common, offering decorative patterns across the body. Bodystockings create a continuous, enclosed sensation across the entire body, unlike separate garments that leave gaps. The compression effect is distributed across torso, arms, and legs. Sheer bodystockings provide full-body coverage while remaining visually translucent, creating the appearance of nude skin with a uniform sheen. Crotchless bodystockings allow sexual access while maintaining the visual and tactile experience of full-body coverage. Bodystockings eliminate waistband lines and gaps between top and bottom hosiery. The full-body nylon enclosure creates amplified sensory awareness, as movement causes the fabric to shift across multiple body regions simultaneously.
- #9Back Seamselective
Keys: back seam, seam
A back seam is a line of stitching running vertically up the back of a stocking or pantyhose, from the heel to the top welt. Originally a functional necessity in fully fashioned stockings, which were knit flat and required seaming to close the tube. Modern seamless hosiery made back seams decorative rather than structural. The seam is typically created with a contrasting thread (often black on sheer nylon), forming a raised line. Back seams draw visual attention to the back of the leg, creating a vertical line that emphasizes calf and thigh shape. The classic "seamed stocking" aesthetic is associated with 1940s and 1950s pinup and vintage glamour styles. The seam must be kept straight during wear, as a crooked seam is immediately visible and considered sloppy. The raised stitching creates a tactile ridge that can be felt with fingers along the back of the leg. Seamed stockings require more deliberate donning than seamless varieties, as alignment must be checked in a mirror. The seam's visual precision and the effort to maintain it contributes to the deliberate, curated appeal of seamed hosiery.
- #10Nylonselective
Keys: nylon, silk, spandex, polyamide, polymer, elastine
Nylon (polyamide) is the primary synthetic polymer used in hosiery manufacturing, developed in the 1930s as a silk substitute. Nylon yarn provides high tensile strength relative to its fineness, elasticity when combined with spandex, and a characteristic smooth, slick surface texture. Nylon hosiery produces a distinctive faint odor often described as chemical, slightly sweet, or plastic-like, most noticeable when new or when warmed by body heat during wear. The material has a low moisture absorption rate, causing perspiration to remain on the skin surface rather than being wicked away. Nylon's thermoplastic properties mean it can be heat-set into shapes, allowing permanent pleating or shaping in hosiery construction. The surface smoothness creates the characteristic frictionless glide of hosiery against skin or fabric. Nylon can develop static electricity, causing hosiery to cling to other fabrics or produce small sparks in dry conditions. Over time and with repeated washing, nylon gradually loses elasticity and develops a slightly rougher texture. The material's translucency in fine deniers creates the characteristic glow or sheen on the leg.
- #11Sheenselective
Keys: sheen, gloss, glossy, matte
Sheen refers to the light-reflective quality of hosiery on the leg surface, varying by material composition, denier, and knit structure. High-shine hosiery (often achieved with 100% nylon or specific yarn treatments) creates a glossy, reflective surface that catches and bounces light, giving legs a polished, luminescent appearance. Matte hosiery (treated with dulling agents or using microfiber blends) diffuses light for a soft, non-reflective finish. The level of sheen affects how the leg's shape is perceived: high-shine emphasizes contours through highlight and shadow, while matte creates a smoother, more uniform appearance. Sheen is most visible under direct lighting, particularly in photographs or stage lighting where the reflective quality becomes pronounced. The visual effect of sheen changes with leg position, as bending creates different surface angles that catch light differently. Nylon without elastane produces the highest natural sheen, while spandex blends tend toward a subtler shine. Sheer deniers (10-20) create the most noticeable sheen effect on skin, as the reflective nylon sits over the natural skin tone, creating a layered visual depth.
- #12Toes/Reinforced Toesselective
Keys: toe, toes, reinforced toes
Reinforced toe and heel sections in hosiery provide additional durability at high-wear and high-stress points. The reinforced toe uses a heavier knit or higher denier yarn in the toe pocket, creating a visible color difference (appearing darker or more opaque) compared to the leg portion. This prevents premature wear from toe friction inside shoes. Reinforced heels similarly use denser knitting around the heel cup. In fully fashioned stockings, the heel reinforcement creates a distinctive shape visible from behind, often called a "Cuban heel" (a pointed, triangular reinforcement) or "Parisian heel" (a curved reinforcement). Reinforced sections are detectable by touch as a slight thickening or raised texture. Open-toe hosiery omits the toe reinforcement entirely, designed to be worn with sandals or open shoes, ending at the base of the toes rather than covering them. The transition between reinforced and sheer sections creates a visible line on the foot. Unreinforced ("sheer toe") hosiery maintains uniform sheerness across the entire foot but sacrifices durability.
- #13Gussetselective
Keys: gusset
The gusset is a diamond or triangular panel sewn into the crotch area of pantyhose and tights, serving both structural and hygiene functions. In sheer pantyhose, the gusset is typically made of cotton panel, providing breathability and moisture absorption in an area where pure nylon would be uncomfortable and unhygienic. The gusset creates a slightly thicker, more opaque section visible as a darker triangle when worn. Some luxury pantyhose feature a " sheer gusset" made of the same fine material as the legs, prioritizing aesthetics over practicality, which requires the wearer to use a separate undergarment beneath. The gusset's seams can create slight ridges felt against sensitive skin. Crotchless pantyhose or stockings eliminate the gusset entirely, creating an opening for sexual access while maintaining the visual and tactile experience of hosiery on the legs. The size and shape of the gusset varies by manufacturer and style, with larger gusset panels providing more coverage and smaller ones creating less visible line under clothing.
- #14Hosiery and Feetselective
Keys: heel, feet, toes
The foot portion of hosiery creates a distinctive sensory and visual treatment of the foot that intersects with foot-focused appreciation. Sheer hosiery on feet provides a uniform color tint and sheen that evens out skin tone variations, creating a polished appearance. The reinforced toe creates a visible darkened area over the toes, drawing visual attention to the foot's tip. The sheer nylon over the foot's arch and ankle creates a glossy highlight that emphasizes the foot's contours and bone structure. Tactilely, nylon-clad feet have a smooth, slightly slick surface that differs from bare skin, producing a distinctive sensation when touched, massaged, or kissed. The nylon creates a thin barrier that softens direct skin contact while transmitting warmth. Toe seams in fully fashioned stockings run across the top of the toe area, creating a raised line that can be felt under the fingers. The scent of hosiery concentrates at the foot after wear, a combination of nylon's chemical base note and body warmth and perspiration, which enthusiasts may find compelling. Foot-focused activities involving hosiery include foot massage through nylon, toe sucking through sheer fabric, and the visual appreciation of reinforced or sheer-toe styles in various shoe types. Open-toe and sandal-toe hosiery styles exist specifically to accommodate open shoes while maintaining leg coverage.
- #15Scentselective
Keys: scent, smell, odor
The scent profile of hosiery is a multi-layered sensory experience that changes through the garment's lifecycle. New, unworn hosiery in its packaging carries the strongest chemical odor, a concentrated combination of the nylon polymer, dye fixatives, and any finishing treatments applied during manufacturing. This "new hosiery" scent is sharp, faintly sweet, and distinctly synthetic, most intense when the package is first opened and gradually diminishing with each wash. Once worn, hosiery absorbs body heat and perspiration, transforming the scent profile. The nylon's low moisture absorption means perspiration remains on the skin surface, mixing with the polymer scent to create a combined odor that is warm, faintly salty, and uniquely human-synthetic. The foot and gusset areas concentrate the most scent after wear, as these areas have the highest perspiration and friction. The inner thigh and behind the knee also collect noticeable scent. After washing, the scent is clean and neutral, a faint trace of detergent mixed with residual polymer, gradually returning to the chemical baseline as the washes accumulate. Enthusiasts with scent sensitivity may find the specific odor of worn nylon compelling or arousing, associating the scent with the tactile and visual experience of hosiery wear. Different materials produce distinct scent profiles: pure nylon has the sharpest chemical note, microfiber is more neutral, and silk carries a faint protein warmth.
- #16Runs, Snags and Laddersselective
Keys: run, snag, ladder
A run in hosiery is a vertical line of unraveled knit stitches caused when a single yarn loop breaks and the tension causes adjacent loops to cascade downward. Sheer hosiery (low denier) is most susceptible to runs because the individual yarn filaments are fine and under high tension. A snag is a pulled loop where a thread is caught and pulled out of the knit structure but the surrounding stitches remain intact, creating a small bump or loop on the surface. Snags can develop into runs if the pulled thread breaks. Clear nail polish applied to the ends of a run can halt its progression by sealing the broken yarn. Run-resistant hosiery uses specially knit structures that contain runs to a small area, preventing full-leg propagation. For an enthusiast, a run or snag in valued hosiery can provoke genuine distress, as the damage is often irreparable and ruins the visual and tactile integrity of the garment. The moment of feeling a snag occur, a small catch followed by the sensation of the fabric giving, is instantly recognizable and produces an immediate sinking feeling. Some enthusiasts develop habits to prevent runs: removing rings before handling hosiery, filing rough skin on hands and feet, keeping nails smooth, and avoiding contact with Velcro, rough upholstery, or pet claws.
- #17Hosiery and Intimacyselective
Keys: sex, fetish, kink, intimate
Hosiery features prominently in sexual contexts through multiple sensory and psychological channels. Visually, the framing effect of stockings draws attention to the thighs and crotch through the exposed skin above the welt, while the uniform sheen on the legs creates an idealized, polished appearance. Tactilely, the smooth, frictionless surface of nylon against a partner's hands, body, or face creates a distinctive sensation unlike bare skin. The texture invites stroking, with the fine grain of sheer hosiery creating a whisper-soft surface. The characteristic nylon scent, intensified by body heat and physical exertion, acts as an olfactory signal associated with arousal for those with hosiery preferences. During oral sex, the reinforced toe or sheer fabric creates a barrier or texture element. Crotchless hosiery allows penetrative sex while maintaining the visual and tactile hosiery experience on the legs and lower body. The sound of hosiery, a whisper-quiet swish when legs rub together or fabric moves against sheets, provides an auditory element. The deliberate act of putting on hosiery before a sexual encounter functions as foreplay through ritual and anticipation. Removing hosiery, either slowly rolled down or pulled off, creates vulnerability and exposure. The garter belt's straps and clips create visual framing around the hips and crotch. The compression of hosiery creates a slight awareness of constriction that some find arousing. Post-coital, the warm, body-scented nylon retains traces of the encounter.
