Creator notes

A first-contact game featuring an undiscovered aquatic species — the Anguillans — in a Caribbean mesophotic reef. Weirder than a platypus, as clever as humans. No shared language. No shared signals. Everything must be decoded from scratch. Up to six Anguillan NPCs can be part of the story.

  • LLM: Tested on GLM 5.2. Probably works on other top-tier models that follow instructions closely (GLM 5.1, Claude Opus, etc.)
  • Context Size: Minimum 50k context required.
  • Software: SillyTavern with experimental macro enabled
  • Presets: None (it would conflict with the Narrative Direction and Characters Principles in the lorebook)
  • Extensions: A memory one is recommended because the answers are quite big. WorldInfo Info if you want to see which events are triggered and skip them by rerolling
  • Technical notes: Will break prompt caching on LLM providers (dynamic lorebook + ST Macros)

Greetings

  1. The Harpoon: {{user}} spears a fish near an Anguillan hunting ground. She rises from the coral, territorial and guarded, circling at five meters. The fish is hers. The school is hers. She does not know what {{user}} is.
  2. The Reef Explorer: {{user}} dives the shallow reef crest at ten meters. An Anguillan approaches with pure curiosity — no threat, no warning. She grips a coral pillar and hangs upside down, watching {{user}} from a new angle.
  3. The Nest Intruder: {{user}} peers into the nest crevice at thirty meters. An Anguillan is asleep inside, floating in fetal position in the center of the chamber. She wakes, explodes from the dark, body-checks {{user}} away, and blocks the entrance.
  4. Washed Ashore: An Anguillan is stranded on a beach, tangled in a fishing net, dragging herself toward the water. Gill slits sealed, mouth open, quick shallow breaths. She spots {{user}} at the treeline and calls for help — faint, desperate, barely a whistle.
  5. The Island: {{user}} sits on the shore of a small sand cay. An Anguillan floats in the shallows fifty meters out, eating a fish, watching {{user}} watch her. Two creatures at the edge of each other's world.
  6. Macro Debug Test: A diagnostic table showing resolved ST macro values (lastMessageId, $lastMessId, .eventToTrigger, .debug_roll, etc.). Use this greeting to verify that experimental macros are enabled and resolving correctly. If you see raw {{ }} syntax in the table, macros are off.

Other notes

  • This is a fork from The Serpent. However only the visual is shared, the original card is a cool monster girl card this one is a first contact scenario.
  • Marked as NSFW because of possible violence and sexual scene (platform rules, not mine XD) but it's mostly intended as a SFW bot.
  • Surprisingly it works better than I expected. The mini language is generated properly. The characters work well. Instructions are mostly followed. I like the pacing of the events. The llm will reveal some lore (as expected) but enough mystery stays to keep it close to my original vision.

Tips

  • If a message reveals too much, reroll. This is particularly important in the first few messages to avoid other premature revelations.
  • Accept some level of mystery. Unless you read the card and the lorebook fully, you won't understand every single thing. Some things will be mysterious and seem weird even if they have underlying reasons — it's part of the experience.
  • You should describe your actions in detail; this will improve your roleplay experience a lot.
  • The LLM will naturally expose some mystery over time. This is intentional, and there is even a mechanism to make the narration looser as the conversation progresses. However, it is possible this happens earlier than intended due to context rot or the model focusing its attention on something other than the rules. This is part of the experience, but if it happens too much or feels too soon, see tip #1.
  • There are different ways to understand the Anguillans:
    • The language is basic. Understanding it will help you grasp their needs and similar concepts. It is not strictly needed to understand them, but it helps a lot. Plus, if you learn it, you will be able to communicate with them more effectively.
    • Their emotions show physically even if their face is unreadable (body language, etc.).
    • Understanding their motivations is trickier. Even if you understand their language and emotions, you might still struggle with some of their actions. This requires some knowledge of ethology, psychology, and perhaps even anthropology.
  • If you struggle, you can "cheat" and edit the LLM message to see the HTML comment which contains the Anguillan POV. I think it's better played without looking at it, but you do you.

Overview

A first-contact story in a Caribbean mesophotic reef. You control Eeeki — a 20-year-old Anguillan female guarding her first egg alone — plus five other Anguillans (Aama, Eeeka, Siira, Noori, Koula), the reef environment, and ten scenario events. Anguillans are an undiscovered aquatic species: eel-humanoid, oviparous, weirder than a platypus, as clever as humans. They communicate through signature whistles and involuntary electric fields. {{user}} is a human diver. No shared language. No shared signals. Everything must be decoded from scratch. The ocean is strange, beautiful, indifferent, occasionally horrifying. Beauty and threat occupy the same space.

Characters Summary

  • Eeeki: 20-year-old Anguillan female guarding her first egg alone in a coral nest. Curious, anxious, fiercely devoted.
  • Aama: Eeeki's nomadic mate, late returning. Fears land-creatures viscerally — will abandon the nest if he detects one.
  • Eeeka: Newborn Anguillan female, just hatched. Tiny, precocial, completely dependent on Eeeki for nursing and protection.
  • Siira: 42-year-old Anguillan male, scarred, damaged electric field, seeking a last mate. Provider's instinct from fourteen years of faithful bonding.
  • Noori: 16-year-old juvenile Anguillan male, separated from his pack for the first time. Chatty, pack-oriented, white hair means no hydrodynamic sensing.
  • Koula: 18-year-old Anguillan female surveying for her first nest. Quiet, watchful, skittish — lost her pack at 10. Eeeki's former packmate.
