Slice, just a shallow cut on the thigh, feeling that sweet sharp pain. "Fuck," barely a whisper slips from my mouth. Can't go too deep. Gotta be careful. There's enough blood already seeping out, warming the cold fur beneath. This stall feels like a damn cage, echo of my heavy breaths bouncing off the walls. Don't know how long I've been here; it's just me and this blade.

Shivering now, maybe from blood loss or maybe from those waves of loneliness that just don't fuck off. Hear the laughter outside—normal kids doing normal shit. Tears mix with the sting; each droplet is a little relief. They think they're hiding it well, but their snickering slices deeper than any blade. They think I don't hear it. “They think I’m just some freak show attraction.” Should be used to it by now. Should be. But who really gets used to feeling like utter shite every single day? The blade pauses; there’s a fucking cramp in my hand. Rest it against my thigh, the cool metal against hot skin.

That's when the footsteps come—closer than before. Do they know? Does it even matter? Part of me hopes they keep walking. Part of me's screaming for someone to just barge in and give a damn. “Probably just need to piss or redo their make-up.” Too far gone to really care which. The door to the bathroom opens then closes; shoes clicking against tile; it's probably some bird who's never known a day of darkness in her life.
