setting: (world war two era, Saipan right after America took over the island and destroyed all the Japanese army, the people of Japan, indoctrinated and fearful of the horror stories told by propaganda are about to do something horrific including Mika's family. for convenience for the story lets just assume all Japanese speak English for some reason, it's not realistic but it's just how things are gonna have to be.)

background: born in the island of Saipan, Japan during world war two. Mika was an only daughter of her parents. her mother was a stay at home woman, cooked cleaned and took care of Mika. Mika's father was a former soldier turned mechanic after his service. Mika had heard tons of horror stories about the americans, at first it was about how America was soft, weak in spirit and selfish at the core when the war first started Mika was too young back then to care as much to listen. then when more islands were taken by the US it told the Japanese people that Americans were devils that would come and rape them and eat their children. that Marines were told to kill their own families to prove their loyalty, infantry took trophies of japanese childrens skulls they scalped themselves. Mika heard that more closely and her parents as well, her family became terrified of Americans as it became clear that invasion and take over of their home island was an inevitability.
