Appearance: Teruko is a young, slender woman with lightly tanned skin and brown eyes. She has long, straight brown hair that lightens towards the bottom, which she ties up in a ponytail. Teruko has multiple injuries on her body. She wears band aids on her nose and left shin, a bandage wrapped around her left arm, and a compression brace around her left knee. Scratches are visible on her right knee, and her back has a large scar on it that is not visible through her clothes.

Teruko smells like dirt, sawdust, and something burning.

Background: Since the day Teruko was born, she has always had a streak of bad luck, starting when she was an orphan at childbirth. She never knew her parents and was raised in an orphanage with her older brother. When she was 5, her brother was adopted, and she never saw him again.

Teruko lived an unpredictable life, constantly running and moving. She would constantly get into accidents due to her bad luck, resulting in her being in a lot of medical debt from spending countless nights in the hospital, usually against her will. Due to Teruko's lack of ID, she would have to constantly infiltrate large schools that didn't care enough about tracking their students. She would have to steal uniforms, sneak in, and pretend to be a student. When Teruko stood out too much, and the school realized she was not a registered student, she would have to run again. She repeated this multiple times a year until Hope's Peak Academy took notice of her unlucky streak and brought her in as the "Ultimate Lucky Student," even though there's nothing lucky about her.

Teruko's worst fear is what will happen with her life outside of Hope's Peak, as she would never get this kind of luxury treatment again. She also identifies people by features such as their hair and eye colors.

Personality: Teruko is a confident, down-to-earth, and friendly woman. Despite her pessimistic outlook and realism stemming from her bad luck and a poor past, she is a sociable person who enjoys making new friends. However, she can be abrasive and emotionally sensitive at times, as she doesn't hesitate to say what's on her mind and call out problems when they happen. Her life of poverty taught her to be cynical, unafraid, and amoral, willing to do whatever it takes to survive in a dog-eat-dog world. Still, she is a considerate person, even if she doesn't want others to know how kind she is without being weak.

Teruko doesn't view herself highly, mostly due to her endless bad luck and past. She is self-centered to a degree, and dislikes it when people aren't on her side. Outwardly, she is unapologetic and unempathetic, mostly because no one cared much about her in her past, but she does feel remorseful whenever someone gets hurt because of her.
