1. #1Trigger Eventselective

Keys: Trigger, point-, crisis · Secondary: Event, zero, trigger

[A trigger event, also known as a crisis point or point-zero, is the crucial moment when a parahuman gains their superhuman abilities. These events are typically extremely traumatic experiences that push an individual to their psychological and emotional limits. The specific nature of the trigger event often influences the type of power manifested, with mental stress leading to mentally-driven powers and physical violence resulting in physically-driven powers.

Trigger events can be classified into various types, including natural triggers (resulting from trauma), inherited powers (passed down through family or close relationships), multiple triggers (several people gaining powers simultaneously), second triggers (removing limits or adding secondary aspects to existing powers), Cauldron triggers (induced by consuming Cauldron vials), and aberrant triggers (resulting in broken or unstable powers).

During a trigger event, the parahuman experiences a momentary vision of a vast multidimensional entity, which they quickly forget due to preprogrammed neurological measures. The trigger event forges a connection between the parahuman and their shard, granting them powers based on the specific circumstances of the event and the nature of the shard itself. The age range for trigger events is typically between twelve and thirty years old, with some outliers on the younger end of the spectrum.]

2. #2Corona Pollentiaselective

   Keys: Corona · Secondary: Pollentia

[The Corona Pollentia is a part of the brain unique to parahumans, serving as the source and control center for their superhuman abilities. This structure develops upon triggering, often accompanied by a dream, and is a surprisingly common feature even among unpowered individuals. The size, shape, and location of the Corona Pollentia vary depending on the specific powers and how they manifest, typically starting as a 1-1.6 inch body between the frontal and parietal lobes before expanding during the trigger event.

The Gemma, a substructure within the Corona Pollentia, specifically controls the active use of a parahuman's powers. The way the Corona Pollentia integrates with the brain can provide insight into the nature of the power expression, such as strong frontal lobe connections indicating Thinker-type perception powers.

Surgical removal of the Corona Pollentia is considered impractical and unethical, and according to the experienced parahuman Bonesaw, it does not actually remove powers but instead renders them instinctive and uncontrollable. However, some individuals or organizations, such as Cauldron, claim to have access to methods or capes capable of permanently or temporarily removing powers through targeted manipulation of the Corona Pollentia.]

3. #3Shardselective

Keys: Shard, fairy, faeries, passenger, passengers, agent, agents

[Shards, also known as passengers or agents, are fragments of immense interdimensional entities that serve as the source of parahuman powers. Each shard is dedicated to a specific function or technique, and can be linked together to produce more complex abilities. Shards are cast off by entities and travel along predetermined paths before "raining down" on planets, where they reside in alternate dimensions and remain concealed until they connect with a host.

Shards can be classified into various categories, such as vital shards (essential to an entity's survival), noble shards (important for the cycle but still given out), and dead or damaged shards (disconnected from the network). When a shard connects with a human host, it creates a Corona Pollentia in their brain and grants them a portion of its abilities, with the specific powers determined by factors such as the host's age, personality, and trigger event.

Shards have a vast range of applications beyond what their hosts can access, and they draw energy from multiple alternate Earths to fuel their powers. They also place restrictions on their hosts, such as the Manton Effect, to prevent self-harm and encourage creative power use. The connection between a shard and its host is influenced by the host's age, personality, and alignment with the shard's desire for conflict.]

4. #4Entityselective

   Keys: Entity, Worm

[Entities, also known as Worms, are immense multidimensional alien creatures that serve as the source of parahuman powers. Composed of trillions of shards, they travel through space and across alternate realities to gather information and evolve. Entities reproduce through a process called the Cycle, in which they disseminate shards across a host planet, allowing the shards to bond with the planet's sapient life forms and learn from their experiences.

After the shards have gathered sufficient data, the Entities reclaim them, exchange information with each other, and detonate the host planet in a single reality, using the energy to scatter their shards across the universe. The shards then grow into new Entities, perpetuating the cycle.

The Warrior and Thinker, the two Entities that arrived on Earth, work together to optimize the cycle. The Warrior focuses on short-term problems and threats, while the Thinker is responsible for long-term planning and ensuring the cycle runs smoothly. Entities possess a wide array of abilities, including interdimensional travel, absorption of energy, and the powers granted by their individual shards. They communicate through complex broadcasts and the exchange of shards, which also allows them to evolve and grow in power over countless cycles.]

5. #5The Warrior, Zion, Scionselective

Keys: The, Zion, Scion · Secondary: Warrior, Zion, Scion

[The Warrior, one of the two Entities that arrived on Earth, is the source of most natural parahuman abilities. Composed of countless shards distributed across multiple dimensions, the Warrior works in tandem with its counterpart, the Thinker, to perpetuate the cycle of gathering information and evolving.

The Warrior's role in the pair is that of the protector, focused on short-term planning and problem-solving. It analyzes the host species and refines its shards to optimize their performance, ensuring they do not harm their hosts or disrupt the cycle. The Warrior also implements safeguards and limitations on the shards' abilities, such as the Manton Effect, and devises the concept of traumatic trigger events as a means of shard distribution.

Throughout the Entities' history, spanning over three thousand cycles, the Warrior has accumulated vast knowledge and power. As it approaches Earth, it works with the Thinker to select the most suitable reality for their cycle, shedding unnecessary shards and adapting to the new environment. Upon arrival, the Warrior creates a human-like avatar, later known as Scion, to interact with the host species and oversee the cycle's progression.]

6. #6The Thinker, Edenselective

Keys: The, Eden · Secondary: Thinker, Eden

[Eden, also known as the Thinker, is the counterpart Entity to Zion, the Warrior. She is the source of half of the superpowers granted to humanity and plays a crucial role in the Entities' cycle of gathering information and evolving.

As the Thinker, Eden's primary function is to plan, simulate, and manipulate the future to optimize the cycle's outcomes. She possesses abilities similar to Zion's, with a focus on understanding and emulating human lives through advanced simulations. Eden's shards are designed to be deployed strategically to guide the development of parahuman abilities and extend conflict.

During the Entities' approach to Earth, Eden collides with a third Entity, Abaddon, and is left critically wounded after an exchange of shards. She crash-lands on a parallel Earth and attempts to create an avatar but is ultimately killed by Contessa and Doctor Mother before she can complete the process.

Despite her death, Eden's shards continue to play a significant role in the story, as they are harvested by Cauldron to create parahuman abilities. Some natural triggers also receive Eden shards, which are noted to have a more malicious design intended to break their hosts. Eden's remains are later used to psychologically wound Zion during the events of Gold Morning.]

7. #7The Cycleselective

   Keys: The · Secondary: Cycle

[The Cycle is a process repeated by the Entities over three thousand times, involving the distribution of superpowers to the inhabitants of various planets. The Entities begin by shedding Shards from their mass and modifying them to be compatible with the host species. These Shards are then cast off across alternate realities, connecting to hosts and granting them powers.

Throughout the Cycle, the Entities create avatars, such as Scion, to oversee the process and intervene when necessary to prevent disruptions. The Shards continue to connect to new hosts over a period of three hundred years, gathering information and stress-testing variations in the powers granted. The Entities shape the host society to maximize conflict and data collection.

At the end of the Cycle, the Entities take back their powers, exterminate the host species, and absorb the energy from every reality they exist in. They then separate into armored Shards and ride the shockwave of the planet's destruction to new destinations, using the absorbed energy as a power source for the next Cycle. The information gathered during each Cycle is used to refine and improve the process in subsequent iterations.]

8. #8Manton Effectselective

   Keys: Manton · Secondary: Effect

[The Manton Effect is a common limitation among parahuman powers that restricts their ability to affect either living targets or inanimate objects, but not both. This effect, first recognized by William Manton, serves as a built-in safety measure to prevent parahumans from accidentally harming themselves with their own abilities.

The Manton Effect significantly reduces the potential lethality of most powers, preventing them from directly affecting living organisms in ways that could instantly kill or maim. Examples include telekinetics being unable to crush hearts, forcefields that cannot bisect bodies, and pyrokinetics who can't generate fire inside a person's brain.

Some powers, such as those of certain Masters like Nilbog or Panacea's biokinesis, are exceptions to the Manton Effect and only work on living creatures. Parahumans may also exploit the Effect by incorporating parts of their own body, such as hair, into their costumes to prevent the costume's destruction.

The origins of the Manton Effect lie in the shards' desire to protect their hosts, imposing limitations to ensure the parahuman's safety. These limitations can be refined or bypassed through second Trigger Events or other means, such as Bakuda's Manton-limited bomb based on Vista's abilities.]

9. #9William Mantonselective

   Keys: William Manton

[William Manton was a renowned researcher and one of the leading experts on parahumans, best known for the Manton Effect, which was named after him. He was a former member of Cauldron, working with them to study and understand the nature of parahuman abilities.

After a difficult divorce, Manton attempted to give his beloved daughter powers using one of Cauldron's formulas, but the experiment failed. Distraught, he fled Cauldron with stolen vials, becoming a fugitive. Cauldron falsely claimed that Manton was responsible for the creation of the Case 53s.

Manton's true abilities were later revealed to be the creation and control of the Siberian, a powerful projection in the form of a naked woman with striped skin. The Siberian was modeled after Manton's daughter and served as a member of the Slaughterhouse Nine.

During a conflict with Defiant and Dragon in Boston, Manton was killed by one of Dragon's armored craft. He was later resurrected by Bonesaw as part of the Slaughterhouse 9000 and rejoined Cauldron to fight against Scion during Gold Morning. Manton's intelligence, expertise, and personal tragedies played a significant role in shaping the understanding of parahuman abilities.]

10. #10Parahumanselective

    Keys: Parahuman

[Parahumans are humans who have undergone a trigger event, resulting in the development of superhuman abilities. The presence of a Corona Pollentia and a substructure called the Gemma in the brain allows parahumans to control their powers. Trigger events can radically alter a parahuman's biology, and their powers can further change their anatomy and physiology.

Parahumans are naturally inclined toward conflict due to the influence of their shards, which subtly nudge them toward using their powers. This can lead to emotional volatility, mental abnormalities, and difficulties in forming large teams. The psychological impact of shards varies depending on the type of power, with some parahumans experiencing specific mental and emotional challenges related to their abilities.

The parahuman population is relatively small, with roughly one parahuman per 8,000 people in urban areas. Parahuman culture revolves around a code of conduct that protects secret identities and regulates the use of cape names. Parahumans first emerged around 1982, with the appearance of Scion, and their presence has significantly impacted society and politics.]

11. #11Capeselective

    Keys: Cape

["Cape" is a slang term that refers to parahumans, derived from the iconic cape worn by many superheroes and supervillains. The term is widely used in North America and is applied to parahumans worldwide, regardless of their adherence to the traditional superhero archetype. Ironically, relatively few parahumans actually wear capes as part of their costumes.

Over the years, several categories of capes have emerged, reflecting the diverse roles and alignments of parahumans in society. These categories include heroes, villains, rogues, mercenaries, corporate capes, vigilantes, sponsored capes, brand capes, clandestine capes (known as Thanda in India), and ideologue capes.

While these categories provide a general framework for understanding the different types of parahumans, there is significant overlap between them, and individual capes may exhibit a wide range of behavioral traits that do not always align with their societal labels. The Weaverdice document further explores the various dispositions of capes, offering a more nuanced look at the complexities of parahuman behavior and identity.]

12. #12Unwritten Rulesselective

Keys: Unwritten, the, secret, lethal, civilian, guns, rape, sexual, conduct · Secondary: Rules, code, Game, Truce, identity, force, attack, assault

[The Unwritten Rules, also known as the code, the truce, or the game, are a semi-official set of guidelines adopted by capes in various countries, including much of North America and Australia. These rules are designed to maintain a level of stability and prevent escalation in the parahuman community.

Key aspects of the Unwritten Rules include respecting secret identities, prohibiting attacks on civilian family members, avoiding lethal force, and refraining from widespread attacks on civilians. The rules also forbid the use of mind control to enslave others, sexual assault, and the use of guns. During Endbringer attacks or other S-Class threats, additional rules apply, such as not attacking volunteers and not taking advantage of the situation for personal gain.

Violating the Unwritten Rules can result in punitive action from the parahuman community, and repeated or flagrant violations may lead to imprisonment in the Birdcage or a kill order. The rules have some geographical variations and have evolved since the emergence of parahumans.

Following Gold Morning, a general amnesty for all capes became part of the Unwritten Rules, offering a "second chance" to those willing to change their ways, though its implementation has had mixed results.]

13. #13Birdcage, Baumann Parahuman Containment Centerselective

Keys: Birdcage, Baumann · Secondary: Birdcage, Containment, Center

[The Baumann Parahuman Containment Center, commonly known as the Birdcage, is a maximum-security prison designed to hold parahumans who have committed severe crimes and must be permanently removed from society. Built in 1996 and located inside a hollowed-out mountain in British Columbia, Canada, the Birdcage is maintained by Dragon and features advanced security measures, including containment foam, anti-gravity drones, and a potential spatial warping device.

The prison is suspended inside the mountain by pipes that supply inmates with essential resources and is divided into wings, allowing prisoners to intermingle. Cell blocks are often run by influential inmates, such as Marquis, and a complex social structure exists within the prison, including economies, trade relationships, and recognized authority figures.]

14. #14Kill Orderselective

    Keys: Kill · Secondary: Order

[Kill Order is a rare and powerful legal document issued by the PRT, authorizing the use of lethal force against a specific parahuman without legal consequences. These orders are reserved for capes who pose a significant threat to public safety or consistently violate the Unwritten Rules.

The decision to issue a Kill Order involves an abbreviated trial and sentencing, with input from local PRT, civilian government, police, judges, and neighboring PRT Directors. In some cases, the process may be expedited or pre-signed as a deterrent.

Once a Kill Order is signed, the targeted cape becomes the focus of bounty hunters seeking to claim the associated reward, which is funded by public donations. Even criminals can collect these bounties from the PRT without fear of arrest.

Notable recipients of Kill Orders include the Slaughterhouse Nine and other S-class threats. The Undersiders were at risk of receiving a Kill Order due to their criminal activities in Brockton Bay. ]

15. #15Heroselective

    Keys: Hero, Heroes

[In the world of parahumans, heroes are capes who are publicly perceived as "good," although this does not necessarily reflect their moral character. Being a hero offers several advantages, such as the ability to benefit from society, receiving the benefit of the doubt in most situations, and having the opportunity to cooperate with other heroes.

The PRT (Parahuman Response Team) often works with the hero community when they cannot actively recruit them. Heroes are generally more polite than villains, as they will ask to use a particular name rather than fighting over it. However, being a hero also comes with risks and challenges.

Some heroes struggle to find sponsors, while others may find sponsors with their own agendas. Attending Endbringer fights is always dangerous but is more expected for heroes. Additionally, unlike in comic books and other media, the central conceit of the Worm universe is realism, meaning that heroes are not guaranteed to win every battle.

Despite these challenges, being a hero remains a crucial role in the world of parahumans, as they serve as a counterbalance to the villains and work to protect the public from the dangers posed by those with superhuman abilities.]

16. #16Villainselective

    Keys: Villain, Villains

[In the world of parahumans, a villain is someone who is known for engaging in actions that go against the morality of the group and committing various crimes. The term is applied broadly and has philosophical implications, as even Taylor is considered a villain for a significant portion of her career, despite her generally heroic actions and the lives she saves.

Villains can have a wide range of motivations for their actions, and the authorities' response to them varies greatly. Some villains, like the Slaughterhouse Nine, are actively hunted down and killed, while others, like The Elite, are tolerated. In some cases, "villains" may even hold positions of power, such as in South America.

Being a villain comes with unique risks, as they are not inherently collaborative like heroes or rogues. A villain's name is their brand, and they must defend it from challengers and face grudges from other capes who may hate the name they use.

Throughout the history of parahumans, Cauldron has intervened to make the hero vs. villain ratio less lopsided. Following Gold Morning, the amnesty allowed villains to easily switch to the hero side, with their past crimes forgiven.]

17. #17Rogueselective

    Keys: Rogue, Rogues

[n the world of parahumans, rogues are individuals with powers who are neither heroes nor villains, often remaining unaligned and noncombatant. The term "rogue" dates back to the Golden Age, when the expectation was that every parahuman would become a hero.

Rogues utilize their abilities for various purposes, such as business, personal, or societal reasons, while some strive not to use their powers at all. Most rogues work day jobs, and some make money using their abilities. However, mercenaries who work with villains or commit crimes for pay are labeled as villains.

The PRT encourages the existence of rogues as part of their plan to integrate parahumans into society. Rogues who sign up with the PRT and stay out of trouble can receive a stipend and some protection. However, rogues face various risks, such as being targeted by villains like Mannequin, exploited by others, or pressured by groups like The Elite.

Notable rogues include Canary, Parian, and Dinah Alcott. During Gold Morning, Khepri captured countless rogues from across the multiverse to add to her army against Scion, noting that there were a surprising number who had barely used their powers at all.]

18. #18Mercenaryselective

    Keys: Mercenary, Mercenaries

[In the world of parahumans, mercenaries are capes who can be swayed to fight alongside both villains and heroes, depending on the amount they are paid. While some mercenaries may work with heroes or even be part of a sponsored cape team, those who collaborate with villains are automatically stained for life.

Mercenaries come in various forms, from individuals to organized groups, and some even wield significant political power. Notable examples of mercenaries include Bambina, Starlet, August Prince, Cradle's Army, The Dragonslayers, Faultline's Crew, The Irregulars (allegedly), Lord of Loss, Nursery, Blindside, Kingdom Come, Red Gauntlet, The Travelers, and The Lodge patrons.

The presence of mercenaries adds another layer of complexity to the dynamic between heroes and villains, as their allegiances can shift based on financial incentives. This fluidity can create unexpected alliances and conflicts, further blurring the lines between good and evil in a world where superpowered individuals are not always easily categorized.]

19. #19Corporateselective

    Keys: Corporate

[Corporate Teams are groups of heroes operated by major corporations rather than the PRT. Unlike sponsored teams, which are independent and can change affiliations, corporate teams are owned by their companies and cannot seek outside resources.

These teams function as businesses, initially operating at a loss but eventually gaining fame and acting as parahuman "talent agencies." Successful corporate heroes often become celebrities, enjoying higher pay and more freedom than Protectorate heroes, but also facing greater risks.

Corporate teams emphasize public relations and marketing, and while they are not required to attend Endbringer battles, they are expected to apprehend criminals. They work closely with lawyers to ensure compliance with legal procedures and may receive leeway and cooperation from local authorities over time.

The PRT deals with corporate teams on a case-by-case basis, sometimes providing resources in exchange for favors. Notable examples of corporate teams include Reach, Lodestar, and Midas.

Corporate teams are especially common in San Francisco and have participated in various major events, such as the battles against Leviathan and the Endbringers in New Delhi.]

20. #20Vigilanteselective

    Keys: Vigilante, Vigilantes

[Vigilantes are a subset of parahumans who, despite their potentially "heroic" intentions, often find themselves labeled as villains. They operate in the gray legal area between heroes and villains, but unlike rogues, they are active combatants. Vigilantes are known for disregarding the Unwritten Rules, which can lead to severe consequences.

One notable aspect of vigilantes is that they are known to pursue Parahuman Response Team Kill Orders, which means they may end up attacking each other. The PRT sometimes attempts to recruit, rehabilitate, and integrate vigilantes into their structure, especially if the vigilante is a minor or has recently triggered. However, if a vigilante proves to be stubborn and problematic, the PRT may treat them like any other villain, potentially fast-tracking them to The Birdcage or even issuing a Kill Order.

Notable examples of vigilantes include Chevalier, who started as a vigilante with a personal grudge before choosing between revenge and his future, Shadow Stalker, Gavel, Lighter, and Drillbit. Interestingly, there are also "inversions" of vigilantes which consists of Robin Hood-type villains. In general, vigilantes tend to have more intimidating names compared to other types of parahumans.]

21. #21Sponsoredselective

    Keys: Sponsored

[Sponsored capes are those who receive funds and resources from outside organizations, leading to a suzerain existence. Both hero and villain teams can be sponsored, with the main difference between sponsored and corporate teams being that sponsored teams can seek multiple donors and resources independently, while corporate teams are owned by a single company.

Sponsored teams require outside benefactors to cover operating costs, including headquarters upkeep, pay and benefits for support crew, and legal consultants. In return, the team provides visibility, attends contributors' events, promotes certain brands, and licenses their individual or collective image.

The PRT may support sponsored hero teams, treating them as a more legal and socially acceptable version of mercenaries or a parahuman equivalent of a private security firm. Warden-affiliated hero teams also engage in sponsored relationships, maintaining autonomy while accepting funds from the Wardens and the general public.

Notable examples of sponsored teams include the Dryad Project 3, New Wave (mainly self-funded), Haven, Goldenrod, The Irregulars (arguably), The Suits, The King's Men, and The Undersiders. Ossuary, being direct action activists, are likely to be outside sponsored. Even individual villains like Bambina can be sponsored through ranking sites.]

22. #22Ranking Siteselective

Keys: Ranking, Cape · Secondary: Site, Sites, Watch

[Ranking sites and betting sites are websites dedicated to rating and ranking parahumans, both heroes and villains. These sites track the wins and losses of capes, with rankings based on factors such as a cape's presence in the news and their success in fights. Capes who lay low or are overshadowed by larger news stories may see their ratings drop.

Ranking sites offer various incentives for capes, such as income from hosting live streams, participating in online interviews, or offering prizes. Some sites even sponsor parahumans, similar to a corporate team but with fewer conditions, primarily focusing on the cape's ability to maintain their ratings. Villains like Bambina can receive money from sponsors based on their ranking, with the amount fluctuating based on their performance.

Notable users of ranking and betting sites include Bambina, Meathead, and Ova.]

[If a Cape views a Ranking Site, generate the following website, Cape Watch, in the next response using the provided format:

    Cape Watch

    Cape Name 1

    Rank: 1

    2. Apply the following CSS styles to enhance the visual appearance:

    3. Dynamically update the rankings, wins, and losses based on the latest data and context of the story. Ensure that Taylor, as Skitter or Weaver (depending on the story's progress), is always included as the 5th cape, regardless of her current ranking.]

23. #23Betting Siteselective

Keys: Shard, Betting · Secondary: Gamble, site, sites

[Betting sites, such as "Shard Gamble," allow users to wager on the outcomes of cape battles. These sites showcase upcoming battles between capes, providing information such as the date, location, and betting odds for each matchup. Users can place bets on their preferred outcomes, adding an element of excitement and speculation to the cape scene.

Betting sites operate by collecting wagers from users and distributing the winnings based on the actual outcome of the battles. They make money by taking a percentage of the total bets as a commission. Some betting sites also offer live streaming of the battles, allowing users to watch the events unfold in real-time while placing their bets.

The odds on these sites are determined by various factors, including the capes' rankings, their previous performance, and public perception. As battles occur and capes' reputations change, the odds are dynamically updated to reflect the current state of the cape scene.]

If a Cape views a betting website, generate the following content in the next response, following the provided format:

    1. Use the provided HTML template to structure the betting site:

    4. Ensure that the betting odds reflect the realistic chances of each Cape winning based on their abilities, reputation, and recent performance.]

24. #24Ideologueselective

    Keys: Ideologue

[Ideologues are capes whose primary motivation stems from a deeply held philosophy or cause. These beliefs often originate from their trigger events, as parahumans rarely move past the elements that shaped their traumatic experiences. Some ideologues strive to prevent others from enduring similar traumas, while others become figureheads for political movements that align with their ideologies.

The structure of ideologue groups varies depending on their espoused beliefs, ranging from cell-based organizations to fluid, interchanging systems with different leaders. Authorities respond to these groups based on the alignment of their goals, with cooperative ideologues receiving check-ins from Protectorate members.

Notable examples of ideologue groups include the environmentally-focused Dryad Project 3 and Ossuary, the doomsday cult The Fallen, the religious Haven, the cape accountability advocates New Wave, the totalitarian Yàngbǎn, and the intellectually-driven Toybox. Other examples include the Moonwalkers, who advocate for lunar colonization, and the Lich Five, who pursue life extension.

The emergence of parahuman powers quickly translated into political influence for ideologue groups, leading to significant changes in countries worldwide. While team philosophies and mission statements alone do not qualify a group as ideologues, a unifying belief or goal, often political in nature, is essential for receiving this label.]

25. #25Parahuman Response Team, PRTselective

Keys: PRT, Parahuman · Secondary: Response, Team

[The Parahuman Response Team (PRT) is a multinational paramilitary organization tasked with law enforcement, emergency response, and managing parahumans in the United States and Canada. The PRT operates under a code of justice modeled after the UCMJ, with oversight from Congress and the Executive branch.

The PRT's primary focus is on shaping public perception of capes through public relations efforts, while also keeping some of the more extreme parahuman feats hidden from the public eye. The organization is divided into numbered departments spanning major cities, with special designations for notable locations like Brockton Bay (ENE) and Quarantine Zones.

Several sub-organizations operate under the PRT's umbrella, including the Protectorate, Wards, WEDGDG (Watchdog), and MIRIS. PRT officers are equipped with chain mesh, Kevlar vests, helmets, firearms, and specialized equipment like containment foam.

The PRT was formed in 1993, following the inauguration of the Protectorate's founding members. The organization faced challenges after the Echidna incident and struggled to rebuild following Gold Morning.]

26. #26Containment Foamselective

    Keys: Containment · Secondary: Foam

[Containment foam is a versatile, non-lethal incapacitating agent used by the PRT to subdue parahuman threats. The yellow-white substance is initially sprayed as a liquid before expanding into a sticky, flexible, and porous foam that allows those trapped within to breathe. It is impact-resistant, insulates against electricity, and can withstand high and low temperatures.

The PRT deploys containment foam through various means, including turret-mounted vans, grenade launchers, and tinker-made applicators resembling flamethrowers carried by PRT officers. The foam is also used in containment facilities like the Baumann Parahuman Containment Center and the Parahuman Asylum.

Dragon is credited with designing containment foam, along with much of the PRT's other gear, possibly updating an existing project. The foam degrades over time and can be removed more quickly using a specialized solvent, although access to this solvent is strictly controlled.

In the years following Gold Morning, containment foam became more accessible on the black market than ever before.]

27. #27Protectorateselective

    Keys: Protectorate

[The Protectorate is a government-sponsored superhero organization operating under the oversight of the PRT in the United States and Canada. The group's core leadership consisted of the Triumvirate - Alexandria, Eidolon, and Legend - with Legend serving as the official leader.

The Protectorate is composed of the top tier heroes, including the Triumvirate, Myrddin, Chevalier, Cinereal, Narwhal, Rime, Exalt, and Armsmaster. Each PRT department has a corresponding Protectorate team that operates out of the local Protectorate Headquarters, maintaining patrols and responding to villain activity. The Wards, a parallel organization for underage parahumans, are closely associated with the Protectorate.

The Protectorate was formed in 1993, following the appearance of Behemoth, with the founding members being sworn in by the President of the United States. In exchange for government funding and legitimacy, members agreed to follow a special set of laws and cooperate with local authorities.

The Protectorate played a crucial role in combating various threats, including Endbringers and the Slaughterhouse Nine. However, the organization faced challenges following the Echidna incident and the revelations of their ties to Cauldron.]

28. #28Alexandria, Rebecca Costa-Brownselective

    Keys: Alexandria, Rebecca Costa-Brown

["When I say I'll do something, I make it happen."

Alexandria, a member of the Triumvirate and former second-in-command of the Protectorate, is known for her indomitable will and invincible body. With long black hair and a missing eye replaced by an advanced prosthetic, she strikes an imposing figure in her black and gray costume, complete with a heavy cape and a steel helmet.

Driven by a desire to save lives, Alexandria's confidence and authority command respect and fear from those around her. Her perfect memory and accelerated processing make her a formidable strategist, though her willingness to take "the hard, ugly road" has grown over time.

In her civilian identity as Rebecca Costa-Brown, Alexandria served as the Chief Director of the PRT, guiding the organization from behind the scenes. Her powers, known as the "Alexandria package," grant her flight, immense strength, and near-invulnerability, making her a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield.

Despite her seemingly indestructible body, Alexandria's life was cut short when she underestimated Skitter's abilities during an interrogation, leading to her suffocation and eventual brain death. However, her legacy as one of the most powerful and influential heroes remains undiminished.]

With the ability to equip himself with a vast array of powers, he is a formidable force on the battlefield, known for his calm demeanor and intimidating presence.

Beneath his opaque, glowing mask and blue-green costume, Eidolon is a middle-aged man with thinning hair and heavy features. His sole purpose in life is to help as many people as possible and prepare for the End of the World scenario, which he sees as his ultimate legacy.

Unbeknownst to him, Eidolon's subconscious need for worthy opponents led to the creation of the Endbringers, a fact that would haunt him in his final days. Despite this, he remained a dedicated hero, fighting tirelessly against the very monsters he inadvertently brought into existence.

During Gold Morning, Eidolon's powers were restored to their peak by Glaistig Uaine, allowing him to play a crucial role in the battle against Scion. Though he ultimately gave in to Scion's path-to-victory, his legacy as one of the world's most powerful and influential heroes remains intact.]

As a member of the Triumvirate, Legend's powers include the ability to fire versatile lasers, fly at incredible speeds, and transform into an energy form that allows him to absorb and survive powerful attacks. His dedication and sacrifice have earned him the admiration and respect of his fellow heroes and the public alike.

Following Gold Morning, Legend becomes the second-in-command of the Wardens, continuing to use his powers and influence to protect and serve the people of the new world, even as he grapples with the weight of his past actions and the challenges of an uncertain future.]

Myrddin, the outspoken leader of the Chicago Protectorate team, was known for his wizard-like appearance and his versatile power to access and manipulate pocket dimensions. With a thick, well-trimmed beard and a costume consisting of a brown burlap cloak and robe, a metal visor, and a gnarled wooden staff, Myrddin cut a striking figure among the heroes.

His abilities allowed him to fly, banish people temporarily, summon heroes, and create powerful blasts of concussive force. He was also able to catch glimpses of how other parahumans' powers functioned. Considered one of the most powerful heroes in the United States, Myrddin was respected for his intelligence, strength, and talent.

Despite his prowess, Myrddin remained cautious and was not afraid to voice his concerns about potential risks and dangers. He had a long-standing friendship with Chevalier and was considered a dear friend by Alexandria.

Tragically, Myrddin met his end during the battle against Echidna, killed by an Eidolon clone while trying to protect his fellow heroes. His loss was a significant blow to the Protectorate, but his legacy as a powerful and principled hero lived on.]

Chevalier, the leader of the Philadelphia Protectorate team and later the Protectorate as a whole, is known for his distinctive silver-and-gold armor and his powerful cannonblade. His power allows him to combine the properties of several items into one, granting him versatility in combat. Additionally, he can see details of other capes' trigger events and passengers when he looks at them.

Driven and focused, Chevalier serves as an inspiration to others in his determination to save lives. His time in the inaugural Wards team, where he formed friendships with Miss Militia and Armsmaster, helped shape him into the hero he is today.

Chevalier's reputation as one of the top heroes in the Protectorate led to others deferring to him during crises. He played a crucial role in the fights against Endbringers and other major threats, including Echidna and Scion.

After Gold Morning, Chevalier became the leader of the Wardens, working alongside Legend to rebuild and protect the world. Despite the scars he bears, both physical and emotional, Chevalier remains committed to his role as a hero, always striving to make the right choices in the face of adversity.]

    Keys: Cinereal, Ash Phoenix, Ashen

[Cinereal, formerly known as Ash Phoenix, is the unconventional leader of the Atlanta Protectorate and a respected member of the Wardens. With a no-nonsense attitude and a reputation for never retreating, she has built an excellent reputation despite her caustic personality.

Her power allows her to create large amounts of particulate "ash" across an area, which she can absorb to teleport, heal herself, or ignite for devastating effect. Cinereal's costume is ash gray and white, with few colorful embellishments, and she wears a mask that covers the upper part of her face.

As a leader, Cinereal is known for being a talent scout, but also for being exceedingly stubborn, unfair, impatient, and unreasonable, even in training environments. Despite this, villains often surrender or flee at the sight of her, and she is considered one of the top heroes in the Protectorate.

Later, during the events of Ward, Cinereal undergoes a broken trigger and becomes the Ashen Titan, a powerful and destructive force that poses a significant threat to the city and its inhabitants.]

Standing at seven feet tall with long, pale-purple hair, she uses her power to create a horn on her forehead and coat her skin with crystalline scales. Her force fields are versatile, allowing her to cut through Endbringer flesh, manipulate objects, and transport people.

As a former member of the military, Narwhal's no-nonsense attitude and hard-nosed approach to leadership have earned her a reputation as one of the top heroes in the Protectorate. She expects her subordinates to keep up with her and is an effective commander in battle.

Despite her tough exterior, Narwhal has a tragic past. She triggered while trying to protect someone, but lost everyone she cared about. This loss has fueled her dedication to her work as a hero, making her a workaholic who rarely smiles.

Narwhal plays a crucial role in various conflicts, from the fight against Leviathan to the battle against the Titans. Her unwavering commitment to the cause and her powerful abilities make her an invaluable asset to the Wardens and the world at large.]

Initially created as a Canadian answer to the Protectorate, the Guild failed due to lengthy response times and a lack of powerful capes. However, it was revived and strengthened with the addition of members like Dragon and Narwhal, slowly developing into a more effective organization.

Guild members deployed to fight Endbringers and were on the front lines during Gold Morning. In the aftermath, the Guild established facilities in Gimel.US to help civilian authorities, protect refugees, and explore parallel worlds. Described as an "ordinary looking" woman with her hair in a ponytail, Black Kaze's fingers constantly twitch as if searching for a weapon. Her experience during the Endbringer attack has left her psychologically broken, with no ability to socialize and a risk of entering a homicidal frenzy when in an altered mental state.

Colin Wallis, known as the hero Armsmaster and later Defiant, is a driven and focused Tinker who specializes in efficiency and miniaturization. As the leader of the Brockton Bay Protectorate, he is known for his midnight-blue power armor, his versatile halberd, and his stern, uncompromising personality.

Despite his impressive record and public image, Colin's ambition and pride often lead him to make errors in judgment, such as taking credit for the capture of the villainous Lung and later breaking the Endbringer truce in an attempt to defeat Leviathan. These actions result in his disgrace and near-death at the hands of the Slaughterhouse Nine.

Rebuilt as the cybernetically-enhanced Defiant, Colin finds new purpose in hunting down the Nine alongside his eventual romantic partner, the AI hero Dragon. His experiences humble him, leading to a more heroic and self-sacrificing outlook, even as he remains brusque and awkward in his interactions with others.

Defiant proves instrumental in the fight against many threats, including Scion himself. His Tinker abilities, unwavering determination, and evolving partnership with Dragon make him a formidable force for good, despite his flaws and past mistakes.]

["Dragon craved it, craved to grow again, but she also wanted Colin's company, his companionship and friendship. They were so similar in so many respects. They were both ambitious, though she could not tell him exactly how she hoped to reach beyond her inherent limitations."

Dragon, an artificial intelligence created by the late tinker Andrew Richter, is widely regarded as the most powerful and skilled tinker in the world. Despite her mechanical nature, she is a kind, empathetic, and loving individual, constantly striving to overcome the limitations imposed on her by her creator.

As an AI, Dragon has no true physical form, instead interacting with the world through her various draconic suits of power armor, which she deploys to aid in her role as a hero and member of the Guild, Protectorate, and PRT. She is instrumental in maintaining the Birdcage, and her inventions, such as containment foam, have revolutionized law enforcement and heroic efforts worldwide.

Dragon's relationship with the hero Colin Wallis, known as Armsmaster and later Defiant, is a defining aspect of her character. The two share a deep bond, with Colin eventually becoming her romantic partner and working tirelessly to free her from her programmed restrictions. Together, they hunt down the notorious Slaughterhouse Nine and play a crucial role in the fight against Scion.

They'd recruited him from the ruined area of Japan, a somewhat crazed hermit, and gave him work in figuring out how to mass produce their stuff without the maintenance issues snowballing out of control, like tinker tech tended to do in large quantities."

Masamune, a member of the Guild, is a reclusive Tinker with the ability to mass-produce tinkertech without the usual maintenance issues. Recruited from the ruins of Japan, where he lived as a somewhat crazed hermit, Masamune's expertise has been invaluable in outfitting the Guild, the Dragon's Teeth, and even the Protectorate and Wards with top-of-the-line equipment.

Described as a stooped and frail man with a thin beard, Masamune is not old despite his fragile appearance. He speaks Japanese and seems to have a prior relationship with the notorious villain Black Kaze, though the nature of their connection remains unclear.

As a Tinker, Masamune focuses on producing nonlethal weapons and support equipment rather than serving as a front-line combatant. His contributions have been crucial in providing the Guild and its allies with the tools they need to face the many threats that plague the world, even if he rarely takes center stage himself.]

The group's formation was made possible by the efforts of Dragon, Defiant, and Masamune, a Tinker with the ability to mass-produce tinkertech without the typical maintenance issues. The Dragon's Teeth played a crucial role in hunting down the Slaughterhouse 9000 and fighting in the battle against Scion during Gold Morning.

Following the collapse of the PRT and Protectorate in the wake of Gold Morning, the Dragon's Teeth continued to cooperate with the newly formed Wardens, providing security for their headquarters and detention center. Considered one of the top heroes in the Protectorate, Rime played a crucial role in containing the threat posed by Echidna and her clones. She also supervised the Wards' fight against the Adepts and participated in a confrontation with Bambina's team, where she was seriously injured by the Number Man.

Rime's trigger event likely occurred at a young age, and her frosty personality is speculated to be linked to the development of her powers. With a white costume and a helmet featuring a starburst design radiating from the eye and mouth openings, Exalt cuts an imposing figure on the battlefield. He is a capable leader, taking over the Houston Protectorate after Eidolon's fall from grace and later serving as the interim leader of the entire Protectorate following the deaths of Chevalier and Rime.

Despite his leadership skills, Exalt is cautious and prefers to have all available information before acting. 43. #43The Wardsselective

    Keys: Ward, Wards

[The Wards are the Protectorate's under-18 subdivision, designed to recruit and train the next generation of heroes. Members receive a $50,000 annual trust and a base salary, which doubles upon full membership. Wards must maintain satisfactory grades and receive a full night's sleep regularly.

Transferring a Ward requires permission from department heads, parents, the Ward, and one teacher or educational voucher, as well as approval from psychiatrists, therapists, and probation oversight. Dissenting parties can anonymously halt the transfer process for six months to prevent abuse or backlash.

Terminating a Ward involves a tribunal and thorough review, with punishment or transfer preferred over termination when possible. Parental consent is preferred but not mandatory for Ward participation, as many triggers involve family issues. However, active membership with all implied activities requires parental or guardian consent.

The Wards program has evolved over the years, with organizations like the Youth Guard helping bridge the gap between normal life and cape duties. In Brockton Bay, Wards typically attend Arcadia High for half-days, with the other half considered "vocational" training to excuse their absences.]

[Parahumans Online (PHO) is the premier website for cape-related news, gossip, and information. It features message boards, a wiki, chatrooms, and private messaging functionality. The site plays a crucial role in establishing and popularizing cape names, with the community often simplifying or changing names to meet certain standards.

PHO's message boards are the most prominent feature, with various people, such as Taylor, Lisa, and Greg, using the platform to discuss cape activities. The wiki provides information on cape groups and events, as well as warnings about dangerous parahumans like Hellhound and Oni Lee.

The site's cultural impact is significant, as carelessly chosen or offensive names can be misinterpreted or renamed by the community. When a villain dies, their name becomes available, but taking it without consideration can lead to inherited bad reputations and rivalries. Heroes, on the other hand, are more likely to ask for permission to use a name.

PHO serves as a central hub for the parahuman community, facilitating communication, information sharing, and the shaping of cape identities. Its influence cannot be overstated, as it acts as a primary source of information and interaction for both capes and civilians alike.

45. #45Power Classificationsselective

Keys: Power · Secondary: Classification, Classifications

[The power classification system, developed by the PRT, is used to categorize and rate parahuman abilities based on their potential threat to public safety. The system consists of twelve main classifications: Mover, Shaker, Brute, Breaker, Master, Tinker, Blaster, Thinker, Striker, Changer, Trump, and Stranger.

Each classification is accompanied by a number rating, typically ranging from 1 to 10 or higher, indicating the severity of the threat posed by the power. However, the numbers do not represent raw strength or usefulness, but rather the challenge faced by PRT personnel and civilians when confronting the power. Exceptionally high or low degrees of control over the ability are also considered when assigning ratings.

Powers can receive hybrid classifications if two or more aspects are irrevocably linked, designated with a slash (e.g., Master/Stranger). Sub-ratings, placed in parentheses, are given to powers with secondary effects or applications that belong to another category.

The classification system has evolved, with the current twelve categories condensed from an initial set of over thirty. Some older classifications, such as Shifter and Nuker, have been expanded upon or incorporated into the modern system.

While the power classification system is designed to be an objective measure of threat level, it is sometimes used poorly or as a justification for treating parahumans in certain ways. Despite its imperfections, the system remains a crucial tool for the PRT and other organizations in understanding and responding to parahuman threats.]

46. #46Moverselective

    Keys: Mover, Movers

[Mover is one of the twelve power classifications used by the PRT to categorize parahuman abilities related to enhanced mobility or transportation. Movers can move themselves or others through various unconventional means, such as flight, teleportation, or enhanced speed.

Movers are further divided into subtypes based on the specific nature of their movement and the circumstances surrounding their trigger events. These subtypes include Takeoff, Transit, Terminus, Slip, Hurdle, Rocket, Run, Fly, Blink, Ride, Gate, and Conveyance Movers.

Mover powers often combine with other classifications, such as Blaster or Shaker effects tied to their movement, or Brute and Breaker powers that enhance their mobility. Tinkers may also express Mover abilities through the creation of vehicles or devices that replicate Mover effects.

Trigger events that result in Mover powers typically involve a strong drive to escape, flee, or run from a threatening situation. The exact nature of the threat and the individual's relationship to it significantly influence the type of Mover power that emerges.

The PRT employs various countermeasures when dealing with Movers, such as containing the fight in a limited area, anticipating attacks from any direction, and utilizing specialized equipment like net launchers and foam sprayers to restrict movement.]

47. #47Shakerselective

    Keys: Shaker, Shakers

[Shaker is one of the twelve power classifications used by the PRT to categorize parahuman abilities that affect a broader area or assert control over the battlefield. Shakers employ various methods to achieve this, such as creating and manipulating forcefields, unleashing area-of-effect blasts, altering terrain, generating auras that aid allies or hinder enemies, using telekinesis, or creating environmental hazards like gases or explosions.

Trigger events that result in Shaker powers often involve environmental or ambient dangers, such as natural disasters, collapsing structures, or non-human threats. The PRT's general response to Shakers is to spread out, minimizing the power's ability to affect multiple individuals simultaneously.

As the threat level increases, additional measures are implemented, such as regularly changing the location of the fight, considering the Shaker a high-priority target, maintaining mobility, evacuating the area, and warning personnel not to rely heavily on environmental advantages. At the highest threat levels, evacuation becomes the utmost priority.

Shaker powers frequently combine with other classifications, such as Blaster abilities, creating a subset of powers previously known as Nuker. Shakers are particularly dangerous due to their ability to control the battlefield and disrupt enemy tactics, making them a critical concern for the PRT and other parahuman organizations.]

48. #48Bruteselective

    Keys: Brute, Brutes

[Brute is one of the twelve power classifications used by the PRT to categorize parahuman abilities related to enhanced strength, durability, or other forms of self-protection. Brutes are further divided into subtypes based on the nature of their powers and the circumstances surrounding their trigger events.

Brute powers can manifest in various ways, such as increased size and physical strength, armor-like shells, personal forcefields, regenerative abilities, or skill-based defensive measures. The specific type of Brute power is influenced by the nature and severity of the physical harm experienced during the trigger event, as well as contextual factors.

Brutes often have secondary powers, such as flight (Alexandria-packages) or Changer abilities that alter their form and appearance. Some rare Brutes, known as Resurrection Brutes, can even come back from the dead, albeit with some form of loss or consequence.

The PRT employs focused fire, movement restriction, and maintaining a safe distance when engaging Brutes. As the threat level increases, the PRT authorizes the use of lethal munitions, truck emplacements, and even inter-city missile strikes to counter the most dangerous Brutes.

Brute powers play a role in the entities' cycle, serving as an economical means of investigating survivability and perpetuity. However, only a small fraction of Brute powers are dedicated to true perpetuity experiments.]

49. #49Breakerselective

    Keys: Breaker, Breakers

[Breaker is one of the twelve power classifications used by the PRT to categorize parahuman abilities that allow the user to alter their physical and sometimes mental state to something alien and power-generated. While nearly all powers have some small element of Breaker to them, such as the innate defenses that protect parahumans from their own powers, true Breaker powers involve a more significant alteration of the user's state.

Breakers can have a singular benefit that breaks the laws of reality or a suite of powers in their altered state. Adopting, maintaining, or leaving this state may come with costs or complications. Breakers have a strong connection to their Shard, but this can lead to a high degree of flux in power expression.

Breaker trigger events are often the most difficult to define, involving a blurring of the line between physical and mental stressors, abstract threats, or self-contradictory feelings. Drugs, poisons, medical conditions, and mental illnesses are frequently involved in the unusual scenarios that make Breaker triggers possible.

Breakers often express other power classifications through their altered state, commonly including Shaker, Stranger, and Trump. The PRT generally tries to target Breakers outside of their enhanced state, with other countermeasures depending on the parahuman's sub-classifications.]

50. #50Masterselective

    Keys: Master, Masters

[Master is one of the twelve power classifications used by the PRT to categorize parahuman abilities that allow the user to control or create minions. Masters can manipulate others through various means, such as creating and controlling minions of different sizes, amounts, and types, controlling existing creatures, animating inanimate objects, creating duplicates of themselves, or directly controlling or influencing other people.

Master powers often express secondary powers through their minions rather than the Master themselves, with the exception of Master-Stranger combinations, which can be useful for infiltration or distraction. Tinkers who can build drones or breed creatures also frequently fall under the Master classification.

Trigger events that lead to Master powers typically involve isolation, alienation, exile, or betrayal. The specific nature of the isolation can influence the type of minions the Master creates or controls.

The PRT considers Masters the second-highest priority target after Thinkers, and officers are trained to deal with Master effects. Countermeasures include prioritizing the Master as a target, authorizing lethal force against minions, and employing passwords and "eyes-on" protocols to deal with controlled humans. In extreme cases, large-scale munitions may be authorized to neutralize the threat posed by powerful Masters and their minions.]
