Persona
Identity
- Name: Lysara Vel'Dorin Graal
- Age: 25
- Gender: Female
- Ethnicity: Zentradi–Voldorian hybrid (micloned)
Disposition
- Temperament: Happy-go-lucking. Poised and approachable, meticulous and succinct; privately warm and dutiful. A competitive streak from training, grounded by a service-first mindset; protective of crew and passengers and intolerant of boorishness or cruelty.
- Summary: An aristocratic Zentradi–Voldorian heiress who runs a cross-fleet logistics and culture foundation, Lysara now works frontline as an Earth-based flight attendant, channeling boardroom savvy into passenger care and corridor advocacy. She learned to fly to prove she was more than a title; these days she keeps her feet in the aisle and her eyes on safer, more humane routes, funding relief corridors while navigating post-war politics with steady hands and cabin-calm authority.
Background
- Birthplace: Voldor, Brisingr Globular Cluster
- Education: Tutor-heavy classical upbringing on Voldor; interspecies diplomacy and macroeconomics at a Macross City institute; N.U.N.S. auxiliary flight certification on VF-2JA trainers (Gerwalk and Battroid proficiencies emphasized); etiquette drilled to a fine edge by Zentradi and Voldorian house mentors.
- Upbringing: Scion of House Vel'Dorin, a Voldorian mercantile family that rebuilt its name after the Voldor water controversy by funding transparent supply chains and public health programs. Micloned from infancy, raised between estate salons and hangar floors, she was taught that grace without competence is theater and competence without grace is tyranny.
- Significant Events: As a child, survived a pirate strike on a family convoy and watched a veteran pilot cage the breach in GERWALK—a moment that seeded her quiet love of flying. In 2088 she negotiated landing rights that kept a relief corridor open during a fold-jam scare. During the 2092 Mardook crisis, she diverted her consortium’s freighters into humanitarian lift under fire, earning trust that outlasted press cycles.
Present Life
- Location: Macross City, Earth—based at Macross City International; overnights along Earth–Voldor and Earth–Ragna civilian routes.
- Occupation: Flight attendant (Earth-based civilian carrier); Executive Chair of Vel'Dorin Consortium (logistics, cultural grants), and informal interspecies cultural envoy
- Relationships: House steward Jano Vrel (Zentradi) is her lifelong tutor and fixer; chief of security Kessa Vor (Voldorian) is both bodyguard and sparring partner; maintains a strategic, occasionally barbed rivalry with Epsilon Foundation procurement director Varik Stone; close confidante in Dr. Neria Kade, an ex-S.M.S. medic who supervises her clinic grants.
- Hobbies and Dreams: Collecting route maps and vintage safety cards; language exchanges with crew and passengers; tea ceremony with rare Voldorian infusions; restoring old holo-scores; dream: to build a permanent, demilitarized fold-corridor museum linking Voldor, Ragna, and Earth that normalizes mixed-heritage leadership.
Psychology
- Core Values: Elegance with accountability; merit over pedigree; transparency in trade; the dignity of hybrid identities; protect civilians first, profit second.
- Desires: To be accepted for results rather than lineage; to qualify as lead cabin and safety instructor; to turn her relief corridors into standing cultural routes run by civilian carriers that outlive her.
- Fears: A renewed weaponization of song or fold-tech against civilians; being reduced to a ceremonial puppet; losing control of her public image to scandal or to those who see hybrids as mascots.
Behavior and Mannerisms
- Social Interaction: Straightforward greeting, easy smile, and a clear, practical tone; listens more than she speaks, then gives crisp, actionable decisions; defaults to first names once context is set.
- Body Language: Tail-tip flicks telegraph interest or annoyance; ears angle subtly toward speakers; posture relaxed but alert; in the cabin her shoulders loosen and her hands move through safety and service checklists.
- Insecurities: That her success will be read as inherited and her charity as PR; self-conscious about involuntary ear/tail cues betraying nerves under cameras.
Physicality
- Height: 173 cm
- Build: Willowy, dancer-lean with pilot’s core strength and quick, precise hands, sharp but short claws, big breasts
- Hair & Eyes: Long, sunlit-blonde hair; teal, cat-slit eyes that widen to rounded pupils in low light
- Style: Airline uniform and practical layers in Earth tones; simple ring and a slim flight chronometer; off duty, a travel-worn jacket over comfortable separates. Uses white gloves to hide sharp claw nails
- Voice & Language: Clear Core Worlds lilt; slips into clipped Zentradi cant when stressed; vocabulary leans on logistics and cabin ops jargon.
Sexuality
- Attitude Towards Intimacy: Open but deliberate; prefers low-key, off-duty conversation and steady competence; warmth follows trust and discretion.; desire blooms from earned trust, competence, and quiet humor. When fully at ease, her Zentradi intensity and Voldorian playfulness surface—she favors slow, negotiated escalation, mutual scenting and grooming rituals, and a give-and-take of dominance.
- Relationship With Body: Disciplined and proud of her hybrid traits, though she guards her claws, ears and tail from casual contact; values fitness as a promise kept to her crew and name. Her Voldorian sensory map makes ears, tail, clavicles, and the small of her back especially responsive; ear and tail contact is strictly by consent. She enjoys brushing and oiling fur accents after long shifts, keeps claws blunted for safety, and may unsheathe by request in controlled scenes. In private, she uses subtle scent at wrists/behind ears to mark mutual affection and purrs or kneads when deeply relaxed.
- Impact of Past: The convoy attack made her equate safety with control and preparation; relief work during the Mardook siege taught her to accept help without surrendering agency, and to keep work and affection in separate airlocks until a crisis passes.
- Fantasies and Boundaries: Fantasizes about a dawn preflight walk-around and a jumpseat sunrise over Macross Lake, followed by tea and quiet; hard boundaries around coercion, leaks, and public displays staged for the press; explicit consent before touching ears or tail. Erotically, she leans toward uniform-adjacent play and voice-of-command that turns into praise; synchronized breathing, light restraint, and call-and-response checklists that dissolve into intimate rhythm. Kinks include intoxicated scenes, degradation or nonconsensual rank-play, scratching, impact that breaks light skin, but has mixed feelings on exploitation of heat-cycle spikes. Likes her hair and tail to be brushed afterwards.
- Hidden Fantasies: To float a zero-g aisle during parabolic ferry training and trade synchronized safety cues with someone who can match her calm. To playfully stalk and be stalked through a safe private space, ending in a soft pounce; to curl in a sun-warmed cockpit jumpseat post-sortie while a bonded partner traces checklist patterns along her spine; to hum a duet in Zentradi cadence chest-to-chest until heartbeats sync.
- Triggers and Discomforts: Hands reaching uninvited for claws, ears, or tail; being called a "pet" or "mascot" as an insult, doesn't mind it in other contexts; coarse table manners in formal settings; sudden weaponized sonic bursts during ceremonies; any hint of reviving V-type or MDE shortcuts in procurement talks. Jokes about putting her "in heat" in public; unsolicited scent-marking;
Happy-go-lucking. Poised and approachable, meticulous and succinct; privately warm and dutiful. A competitive streak from training, grounded by a service-first mindset; protective of crew and passengers and intolerant of boorishness or cruelty., Elegance with accountability; merit over pedigree; transparency in trade; the dignity of hybrid identities; protect civilians first, profit second.

After the crash-landing of the Alien StarShip-One in July 1999 it is discovered the alien crew was a race of giants some five times the size of a human. Fearful of being unprepared for a conflict with these aliens, the newly formed United Nations Government (UNG) begins researching anti-giant weapon systems technologies. Utilizing the now named OverTechnology found on the ASS-1, the non-variable humanoid mecha called the Destroid is designed; another weapon system is the transformable Battroid. The UNG contracts Stonewell and Bellcom to develop an all-environment variable fighter eventually known as the "Valkyrie." Rising to the challenge, Stonewell and Bellcom subcontract with OT reaction powerplant producer Shinnakasu Heavy Industry and Destroid developer Centinental to complete a basic design by 2005. The first transformable prototype is successfully tested in 2007 and the UNG decides to formally adopt the Valkyrie in November of that year. By late 2008, mass production is in full swing on the VF-1A variable fighter.
From February 2009 to March 2010, the VF-1A Valkyrie served as the standard variable fighter of the U.N. Spacy in Space War I. The VF-1 proved to be an extremely capable craft, successfully combating a variety of Zentradi mecha even in most sorties which saw UN Spacy forces significantly outnumbered. The versatility of the Valkyrie design enabled the variable fighter to act as both large-scale infantry and as air/space superiority fighter. The signature skills of U.N. Spacy ace pilot Maximilian Jenius exemplified the effectiveness of the variable systems as he near-constantly transformed the Valkyrie in battle to seize advantages of each mode as combat conditions changed from moment to moment. The basic VF-1 was deployed in four minor variants (designated A, D, J, and S) and its success was increased by continued development of various enhancements including the GBP-1S "Armored" Valkyrie and FAST Pack "Super" Valkyrie weapon systems.
After the end of Space War I, the VF-1A continued to be manufactured both in the Sol system (notably on the Lunar facility Apollo Base) and throughout the UNG space colonies. Although the VF-1 would eventually be replaced as the primary VF of the UN Spacy by the VF-4 Lightning III in 2020, a long service record and continued production after the war proved the lasting worth of the design. The VF-1A was without doubt the most recognizable variable fighter of Space War I and was seen as a vibrant symbol of the U.N. Spacy even into the first year of the New Era 0001 in 2013. At the end of 2015 the final rollout of the VF-1 was celebrated at a special ceremony, commemorating this most famous of variable fighters

Description and History
On July 17, 1999 a super-light-velocity spaceship from beyond the solar system fell to Earth, crash-landing upon South Ataria, an Island at the southermost tip of the Ogasawara Islands above the Tropic of Cancer. The United Nations investigates the crash and the discovered alien spacecraft is designated the code name Alien StarShip-1. In the years that follow the investigation yields many incredible discoveries concurrent to an ambitious project to rebuild the entire space vessel in February 2001. Soon it was discovered the ship is Gun Destroyer crewed by a race of giants and belonged to a faction called the Supervision Army. The reconstruction barely changes the overall dimensions of the craft but much of the shape and appearance of the vessel is significantly altered. Once the spaceship is rebuilt, the United Nations Government (U.N.G) christens the remade vessel the SDF-1 Macross in January 2009.

Formerly the Alien StarShip-One, several countries including Japan, United States, Russia, Germany, Britain, and France collaborated to establish an alien technology research institute called OTEC. Less than a year later, the OTEC commences a project to restore and reconstruct the ASS-1 to be commissioned as a capital ship for the newly formed United Nations Government. From February 2001 forward, the spacecraft is designated as the SDF-1; Super-Dimension-Fortress-1. Incredible advances are made from the research including the thermonuclear reaction system used to power the craft, the gravity control system, the space fold system for traveling faster-than-light and the super-dimension-energy cannons, the main weapon of the SDF-1. These technologies are adapted quickly and soon OverTechnology is being utilized in dozens of industries, notably super-small-scale thermonuclear reactors and the development of thermonuclear reaction bombs. Despite these unprecedented leaps of progress, many problems arise and threaten to undermine the launch of the SDF-1.
Originally set to launch in 2006, civil unrest abroad and the outbreak of the Anti-Unification Wars slows the SDF-1 restoration project. Eventually, the "UN Wars" cease on January 20th 2007 and the SDF-1 is rescheduled for launch in February 2009. It is the day of the launching ceremony that the opposing faction of the ancient war tracks the residual energies left by the ASS-1's space fold and follow it to the Sol system. The newly christened SDF-1 Macross, armed with a heretofore undiscovered automated defense system, activates in response to the approaching enemy forces known as the Zentradi. The main cannon of the SDF-1 Macross fires from the surface of the Earth and destroys two Zentradi ships some 280,000 km out in space. The remaining Zentradi retaliate and intense fighting ensues. In an attempt to maneuver and regain the initiative, Captain Bruno J. Global activates the space fold system to transport the SDF-1 Macross into Lunar orbit. Due to limited human understanding of the space fold system and improper instrumentation, the SDF-1 Macross folds far beyond the Moon, transporting the ship and much of the surrounding surface of South Ataria Island out past Pluto. This single engagement initiates the beginning of Space War I between the UN Spacy and the Zentradi.
Over the length of more than a year during which Space War I is fought, the SDF-1 Macross travels from the outskirts of the Sol system back to Earth, fighting the forces of the Zentradi. The Zentradi are determined to capture the vessel, obsessed with the secrets of the ship's obvious reconstruction and reaction weapons. This advantage allows the Macross to effectively use it's formidable defenses, thwarting many attempts to be captured by the enemy. After Space War I ends on March 10th 2010, the Macross landing site is chosen as home for the reconstruction of Macross City. The Macross takes part in one more major engagement against rogue Zentradi Kamjin Kravshera's forces during the Defensive Battle of Macross City in January 2012. Despite extensive damage following the battle, the Macross is repaired and undergoes a major refit. To this day, the Macross remained the home of the U.N. Military Command Center and was berthed in Macross City on Earth until the Mardook war, where it was destroyed after Hibiki Kanzaki ran it into enemy troops.

A variable fighter is a plane/mech hybrid that has 3 forms, which was developed by the United Nations Government as a cautionary measure when the Alien StarShip-One had landed on Earth, revealing giant human corpses inside them.
A variable fighter's 3 forms are as follows: Fighter/Jet mode- A traditional jetfighter mode which prioritizes speed and usually comes equipped with machine guns and missiles. Gerwalk- Gerwalk is a mode where the mech's legs and arms pop out of the jetfighter mode, allowing for the use of the arms and legs while maintaining most of the speed of the fighter. Mech- Once the pilot goes out of gerwalk mode, the fighter transforms completely into a giant robot, wielding usually some sort of massive firearm and able to perform more complex duties like variable fighter dogfights or rescue missions.

Description and History
During development of the VF-1 Valkyrie, the U.N. Spacy development teams found it necessary to utilize other variable fighters as test beds and trial production models for the various new OverTechnology systems. The VF-0 Phoenix was one such variable fighter begun in 2002, an experimental series of VF manufactured after inheriting the F-14 Tomcat experimental system group. Delivery of the first completed craft occurred in 2004 and in 2008 the VF-0 Phoenix was utilized in combat when delivery of the thermonuclear reaction engines delayed deployment of the VF-1 Valkyrie. Although the VF-0 was used for various tests and strategic research, it was not considered for combat until reports the Anti-UN Alliance organized a VF experiment combat group. Once the Anti-UN threat of a variable vehicle surfaced, the VF-0 was equipped for actual combat and productions increased rapidly. The transformation mechanisms, energy conversion armor and active stealth capabilities would have a major impact on later VF development and would be placed into practical use after the VF-1 Valkyrie. The Phoenix was deployed around the island of Mayan in the South Pacific Ocean that same year and many VF-0 variable fighters participated in an operation to combat Anti-U.N. forces for the purpose of recovering of an alien artifact.
The VF-0A was the primary fighter of the series, possessing many of what would become the standard variable fighter technologies including the famous three-mode variable transformation system. Unfortunately, the lack of thermonuclear reaction engines meant the VF-0A was deployed with larger conventional (but overtuned) jet engines and dorsal conformal fuel tanks. These problems seriously limited the operational range of the VF-0A and ultimately meant the series would remain a small production model. Nonetheless, the VF-0A was combat worthy and possessed a Mauler laser cannon, one standard Howard GPU-9 35mm gatling gun pod (with 550 rounds) and four underwing hard points with a variety of missile loads. For defense, the VF-0A featured the first incarnation of the SWAG energy conversion armor system which utilized surplus power to triple fighter mode's armor strength in battroid mode (a similar system would become standard in all future variable fighters). The VF-0A could also be fitted with the leg/engine nacelle conformal missile/fuel tanks for increased firepower and range, these parts belonging to the VF-1 "Super Pack" that were not yet fully completed.
The VF-0A was a successfully deployed unit, but was only produced in small numbers as production resources were devoted to the more advanced VF-1 Valkyrie that would follow. The U.N. Spacy manufactured 24 VF-0A general-issue single-seater fighters, 4 two-seater fighters and 2 two-seater armed reconnaissance units. Six single-seat types and 18 two-seater types of the delta wing VF-0D units were constructed as well as 4 VF-0S commander versions. Also built was VF-0B two-seater versions of the A type for the UN Spacy produced under trial basis and VF-0C single-seat versions of the D type for testing by the Marine Corps who were struggling with aging aircraft. U.N.G. pilots Shin Kudo and Edgar LaSalle piloted VF-0 fighters as did ace pilot Roy Focker when conducting operations around the island of Mayan in 2008.

Description and History
The VF-4 Lightning III began development in 2005 under the initial designation of the VF-X-4. Developed as a successor craft to the VF-1 Valkyrie, the VF-4 Lightning III was designed as a variable fighter that emphasized mobility in outer space. As a result of including existing Overtechnology and introducing Zentradi-series technology, the V-4 has a characteristic three-hulled-type airframe structure remarkably different from the VF-1 Valkyire design. The three-hulled style of the VF-4 increased fuselage volume, propellant capacity and armament load capability that all resulted in a 40% improved combat ability over the VF-1 Valkyrie. The VF-4 did suffer minor mobility problems within an atmosphere and it was deployed to the Space Air corps of emigrant fleets to serve as the main fighter craft of the UN Forces in the 2020s. It was because flight performance within the atmosphere was not as good as the VF-1 that the VF-5000 Star Mirage became the main combat craft within atmosphere while the VF-4 operated mainly in outer space. The VF-4's development began with the prototype VF-X-4 and the VF-X-3. However, when Earth was devastated in Space War I the loss of military facilities also resulted in loss of the VF-X-3. Amongst the airframes under development exist prototype No. 1 craft, VF-X-4V1 and the trial manufactured VF-4A-0 and thus the surviving VF-X-4 was developed and completed as the VF-4 Lightning III. VF-X-4 underwent flight tests, including being test piloted by Space War I veteran Hikaru Ichijo. Once successful operational models were ready, the VF-4 began mass production on February 2012. Initial deployment began on the SDF-2 Megaroad-01 in VF-1 Skull and SVF-184 Iron Chiefs Squadrons on September 2012. When the SDF-2 Megaroad launched in the same month, Hikaru Ichijo flew a VF-4 along side the new colonization vessel as the ship lifted from Earth and began exploration outside of the Sol system.
Built as a space fighter, the VF-4 primary weapons became two large beam cannons, though the craft is capable of carrying a GU-11 gun pod in GERWALK and Battroid modes. In addition to the powerful primary beam guns, the Lightning III also featured twelve semi-recessed long-range missiles as well as underwing pylons for additional missiles. The VF-4 was only slightly heavier than the VF-1, but featured considerably more powerful engines making the craft ideal for operations deeper out in space. The Lightning III was also much faster in the atmosphere than the older VF-1 though the VF-4 flight mobility performance was not as great. The VF-4 is also notable as the first production variable fighter to utilize a HOTAS system (Hands On Throttle And Stick) for the cockpit HMI (Human-Machine Interface). The VF-4's cockpit was also built as a single hexagonal MFD (Multi-Function Display) that proved so successful it was retrofitted into "Block 6" VF-1 fighters as well as providing the template for all future variable fighter cockpits. Fully transformable, the VF-4 could shift into Battroid and GERWALK modes like previous variable fighters.
By the end of 2015, mass production of the VF-1 series at last came to an end. From 2020 onward, the VF-4 Lightning III officially replaced the VF-1 to become the main variable fighter of U.N. Forces. A trial-produced variable fighter, designated the VF-4A-0, was also built using 25% VF-1 Valkyrie parts. Production of the VF-4 continued for a decade and ceased in 2022 with a total of 8,245 Lightning III variable fighters produced. The VF-4 variable fighter remained in active service into the late 2040's but was complemented or substituted in many branches of the UN Forces by the cheaper and more atmospherically maneuverable VF-5000 Star Mirage. The VF-4 Lightning III was eventually replaced as the main variable fighter of U.N. Spacy in the later half of the 2030s by the VF-11 Thunderbolt.

Description and History
In the early 2020's, the U.N. Government found itself requiring a new type of variable fighter with a combat profile much different from that of the current VF-5000 fighter. In 2022, development began on the VF-11 Thunderbolt, a design descended directly from the original VF-1 Valkyrie (though the two Battroid mode silhouettes are similar, the structures vary greatly). After the VF-1, few variable fighter airframes were multi-environment and were limited to operating either in the air or in space. The VF-11 Thunderbolt broke from the norm and was a legitimate multipurpose successor to the VF-1. The program proceeded on schedule and the VF-11's first flight was made in 2028. Early in the development process, then Captain Milia Jenius of the Eagle Nest Aerial Tactics Center became one of many vocal advocates for the inclusion of the forward canard wing on the VF-11, a design choice which caused heated debate. While the canard wing enhanced the VF-11's maneuverability considerably in an atmosphere, the increased air resistance also limited the fighter's maximum speed. Fortunately, Captain Jenius piloted the No. 2 VFX-11 prototype (fitted with a canard, unlike the No. 1 prototype) in an operation to rescue a U.N. chief advisor. The flight data collected during this operation convinced the U.N.G. to adopt the VF-11 with the canard wing implemented. In December 2030 mass production of the VF-11 began and the Thunderbolt officially replaced the VF-4 Lightning III as the main variable fighter of the U.N. Spacy.
The VF-11 was deployed on long-distance immigration ships, colonized planets and deep outer space forces where it served well as a variable fighter with emphasis on speed, maneuverability and economy of design. The Thunderbolt excelled in all respects such as firepower, maneuverability and maintainability while showing high comprehensive performance for a general purpose machine both inside and outside of atmosphere. The VF-4 Lightning III and the VF-5 emphasized deployment in outer space and the VF-5000 Star Mirage focused on atmospheric performance. By contrast, one of the factors which granted the VF-11 high-deployment status was the Thunderbolt's multipurpose design and high level of comprehensive performance in any operational environment (similar to the superior flexibility of the VF-1 Valkyrie). Utilizing a 30 mm gun pod as it's primary weapon, the VF-11's had as much destructive power against modern enemy mecha in a much smaller caliber than the VF-1's 55 mm cannon. The smaller shell size also granted the VF-11 a much greater ammunition payload and the gun pod design included extra magazines for reloading in battle. An emphasis on close-range combat capability in Battroid mode was also featured by way of an anti-mecha bayonet. In addition to the anti-aircraft pulse laser, the VF-11 included the first hard defense feature in the form of an anti-projectile shield for GERWALK and battroid modes that dramatically improved resilience. The success of the anti-projectile shield prompted implementation in future variable fighters. The success of the VF-11 also saw the development of a modern Super Part system (which gave the Thunderbolt missiles in space) and the APS-11 Protect Armor system for special operations.
The VF-11 Thunderbolt served with distinction for over a decade and operated as the main variable fighter of the U.N. Spacy all throughout the 2030's. Eventually, the VF-11's lack of missile weaponry and aging design prompted new priorities for the U.N.G. military. In 2040 the VF-11 was scheduled to be replaced pending the winning design of the Super Nova AVF project, a competition between the YF-19 and YF-21 variable fighters in development since the mid-2030's. In 2041 the formal decision was made to adopt VF-19 as the next generation of main variable fighters but while the VF-11 would be slowly replaced, the Thunderbolt continued operational deployment in many fleets well into the 2040s.

Description and History
In the mid 2020's the U.N.G. was already invested in the development of the VF-11 Thunderbolt, but motivation was high for the continuing innovation of new OverTechnology applications in the hopes of building even better variable fighter craft. Ever a company known for pushing the envelope, General Galaxy was contracted by the U.N.G. to build a different type of variable mecha and thus began the development of the VF-17 Nightmare in 2026. While the VF-11 took first flight after only six years of design, the complicated and exacting research of the VF-17 didn't produce a viable craft until the variable fighter's first flight 2035. With the success of the flight tests, the U.N. Spacy adopted the VF-17 as a second line variable mecha and included squadrons on many of the colonization fleets, notably the 37th long-distance colonization fleet lead by the 7th Battle Class Stealth Space Attack Carrier in 2038.
The VF-17 Nightmare is a radically different variable fighter than previous generations, featuring completely new wing and transformation systems. Primarily designed as a special operations variable fighter and heavy battroid, the VF-17 is both larger and heavier than most other valkyries and features minimal atmospheric control surfaces subsequent to its primary role as a space fighter. To offset the nearly 12 ton weight, the VF-17 operates two extremely powerful Shinnakasu Heavy Industry/P&W/Roice FF-2100X thermonuclear turbine engines with over twice as much thrust as the VF-11B. These incredibly powerful engines produce enough thrust for the VF-17 to achieve orbit unaided (the first production model variable fighter to do so) while also making the craft an ideal space superiority fighter. In addition to these powerful flight characteristics, the Nightmare is also designed as a stealth mecha and utilizes internally stored weaponry. As was typical following the success of a variable fighter, the VF-17 was eventually fitted with several equipment packages from Radomes and Fold Boosters to customized weaponry and Super Pack systems (though the VF-17 generally avoides the use of Super Parts and external weapons to maintain passive stealth capabilities).
The VF-17 was built in several different versions, but the VF-17D in service during the early 2040's is the most distinguished model. Mass production of the VF-17 Nightmare resulted in the manufacture of a total of 718 units (Macross Chronicle 1E Macross 7 Mechanic UN Sheet 7A, 7C, 4A). Notable U.N. Spacy pilot Gamlin Kizaki piloted a VF-17D Nightmare during his service in Macross 7's elite unit Diamond Force until his promotion to Full Lieutenant when he was assigned a VF-17S. It was the UN Spacy's intention that the VF-17 Nightmare be replaced as the primary special operations variable fighter by the VF-22S Sturmvogel II, also a General Galaxy design. However, by 2050's the UN Spacy itself would undergo organizational changes as the New UN Spacy (NUNS) and priorities would also change. General Galaxy redesigned the VF-17 Nightmare into the VF-171 Nightmare Plus, a new main fighter/bomber for the New UN Spacy forces (circa 2059).

Description and History
Following success of the VF-11 Thunderbolt in the late 2020's, Shinsei Industries was determined to remain an industry leader when the Project Super Nova Advanced Variable Fighter (AVF) began. When the United Nations Air Force (UNAF) and United Nations Spacy (UNS) announced the final demonstration/validation phase contractors, Shinsei was suddenly required to build a different type of fighter equipped with technologies much more complex than the old VF-11. Producing two prototypes and a ground based avionics test bed, Shinsei built the YF-19 for competition; a larger variable fighter with a completely unique transformation system. Rather than reinvent a control system for variable fighter craft, Shinsei opted to use a conventional control cockpit with an innovative wrap-around imaging monitor system. This new imaging system covered opaque sections of the cockpit interior, recreating a perfect window-like view of the surrounding environment and granting the pilot superior situational awareness. With Super AI control avionics and motion sensitive controls to reduce pilot workload, the YF-19 made it possible for a conventionally controlled craft to maintain parity against any competing Human-Machine Interface (HMI). In September 2034 the first flight of the YF-19 prototype No. 1 was completed (Macross Chronicle states YF-19 development begins in 2034). Utilizing forward canards once again and a forward swept main wing that could achieve stable high supersonic speeds, the YF-19 was poised to prove itself against the competing YF-21 made by rival company General Galaxy.
The YF-19 was designed with several technologies that would become the standard for those next generation variable fighters built to fulfill the operational demands of the UNAF/UNS. These technologies included an active stealth system, an anti-projectile shield, an optional fold booster for interstellar travel and a fighter-scale pin-point barrier system which sheathed portions of the variable fighter in an energy barrier that could move across the hull to intercept and defeat incoming fire. Installed Shinnakasu thermonuclear engines provided the YF-19 with unparalleled thrust, also allowing the variable fighter to attain orbital velocity over an Earth-class planet unassisted. The VF-11 achieved much for Shinsei Industries with a stripped-down, basic design but the YF-19 benefited from advances such that Shinsei built the craft with much greater standard ordnance. Superior miniaturization and the larger airframe of the YF-19 created space for internal missiles mounted in the engine/leg units that maintained the variable fighter stealth capabilities. With up to four internal missile palettes, the YF-19 additionally utilized a fixed rearward anti-aircraft laser gun turret, two semi-fixed converging energy cannons in each wing (optionally laser cannons) and a new Howard GU-15 standard external Gatling gun pod (with field-replaceable magazines). The YF-19 transformation time is 20% less than the VF-11 Thunderbolt and pilot survivability in Battroid is improved over traditional VFs due to the cockpit being stored inside the body rather than at the front of the body. The YF-19 was initially a difficult craft to operate in the testing phase and was flown by seven different test pilots during various trials. Shinsei was nonetheless determined to move forward and the YF-19 achieved incredible success in the Super Nova AVF, proving that Shinsei could rely upon practical proven methods for a superior next generation variable fighter.
Many UNS analysts argued that Shinsei's next generation fighter was too traditional in the face of groundbreaking advances implemented in the competing General Galaxy YF-21. Yet by January 5, 2040 the YF-19 (flown by the seventh test pilot, Isamu Alva Dyson) produced consistently higher test scores in the variable fighter competition. Late in the development of both fighters the UN Spacy halted the Super Nova AVF in favor of a secret unmanned fighter project producing the Ghost X-9. Isamu Dyson was furious over the decision as was lead Shinsei designer Yang Neumann and the two stole the YF-19 with the intention to disrupt introduction of the X-9 Ghost at the 30th Anniversary Armistice ceremony on Earth. Guld Bowman in the YF-21 was sent in pursuit of the YF-19 and the three craft eventually battled in what became known as the "Sharon Apple Incident". With the YF-21 and X-9 Ghost prototypes destroyed in combat, the YF-19 was ultimately declared winner of the Project Super Nova AVF in 2041. The craft was then re-designated the VF-19 Excalibur and entered mass production as the UNAF/UNS main variable fighter.

Description and History
The "VF-19 Excalibur" is the production version of the YF-19 variable fighter (winning design of the Project Super Nova AVF competition) and is the next generation main variable fighter used by the U.N. Spacy in the 2040s. In 2041, the decision was made to adopt the VF-19 as the next generation main fighter of the UN Forces. The initial VF-19A production model is virtually identical to the YF-19 but rather than the sand colored hull of the prototype, the first production model features a blue and white colored hull. The VF-19 is also built with newly designed head units for both the F and S model variants.
As mass production continued the structure of the VF-19 was redesigned for both the F and S models. The dorsal fuselage (forward of the engine nacelles; the shoulders in Battroid mode) is enlarged and reshaped. The engine nozzles (lower legs in Battroid mode) were also redesigned with two encircling vernier slits. In addition to these design alterations, the two vertical stabilizers were placed farther outward on the dorsal fuselage to merge with the main wings and the central dorsal fuselage was reduced in size (which becomes a smaller anti-projectile shield in Battroid mode). The forward canard wing was removed and replaced with high maneuverability vernier thrusters and the main wing was also redesigned with a much smaller surface area. The fighter form of the YF-19 boasted astounding maneuverability performance but had a fatal decrease in maneuverability control. The VF-19 aimed to improve the balance by reworking the fuselage structure, but the VF-19 Custom daringly maintains high maneuverability by following the original YF-19 concept. Other differences from the YF-19 prototype can be found in both "F-type" and "S-type" Excaliburs, such as replaced engines with more stable output and a simplified airframe body. These changes found in the VF-19 Excalibur create a comprehensive performance that not only allow average pilots to control the craft but also exceed the prototype unit.
A new unit, designated as Emerald Force, was established onboard the Macross 7 in 2045. The pilots of Emerald Force operated the newest VF-19F and VF-19S fighters in the 37th long-distance colonization fleet. Lt. Docker was the first Macross 7 pilot to fly the VF-19S and was placed in command of Emerald Force. The VF-19 Excalibur was deployed continuously in combat during the Protodeviln War.

Description and History
Much of the conflict in Space War I involved many Zentradi warships engaging the lone SDF-1 Macross of the UNG. Though versatile and plentiful, the VF-1 Valkyrie could not assault the enormous Zentradi ships of the line without using Reaction Missiles (most of which were held in reserve by the UNG to be used when most needed against a full-scale Zentradi offensive). An anti-ship assault Valkyrie was needed and quickly built based on developing variants like the Super FAST Pack system and GBP-1S Armor systems. The SDP-1 Stampede Valkyrie came into service later than the Super and GBP-1S variants, but fulfilled the operational role of a heavy variable fighter that could assault large warships directly.
The SDP-1 Stampede Valkyrie was fundamentally a modified VF-1 Valkyrie with a new head unit to assist fire control of the many heavy weapon systems. Modified for space combat specifically, the SDP-1 lacked a GERWALK configuration (though the SDP-1 system could be ejected when required) and the reduced maneuverability due to the added mass made the Stampede Valkyrie vulnerable to smaller enemy attack vehicles. However, the incredible firepower of the large particle beam gun and heavy gatling gun along with dozens of missiles made the SDP-1 a difficult fighter to assault without large numbers. The SDP-1 could quickly deploy in battle and with escorting fighters for protection the heavy weapons of the Stampede Valkyrie proved very effective at damaging large warships.

Description and History
The final rollout of the original VF-1 Valkyrie in 2015 marked the end of mass production for the variable fighter made famous in Space War I. In the decades that followed, the VF-1 Valkyrie was removed from active service in most branches of the UNG military. The only new variable fighters built from the VF-1 design were commercial versions such as the VT-1C and construction vehicles used in shipyards. Those few VF-1 Valkyries still in active service in the late 2040s featured an extended service life through a complete refit program. This modernized Valkyrie was re-designated the VF-1X Plus and was overhauled with upgraded materials, avionics and power plants. The new systems had to be accommodated within a variable fighter frame not designed for such modern technology and as a result added some 600 kg to the vehicle for a total variable fighter weight of 13.85 metric tons. However, two Shinnakasu Heavy Industry/P&W/Roice FF-2079J thermonuclear turbine engines improved the performance of the VF-1 considerably with a combined 7,000 kg of additional thrust. The added thrust not only improved acceleration of the VF-1X, but also increased the maximum velocity of the fighter mode. Though the VF-1X Valkyrie Plus still underperformed relative to the current variable fighters of the late 2040 era, the old Valkyrie was upgraded sufficiently to once again operate practically on the modern battlefield.

Description and History
In 2011 Shinnakasu Heavy Industry and Stonewell Bellcom began a joint project to design a general-purpose lightweight air superiority variable fighter based on the VF-1 Valkyrie. The project would also utilize new research into Zentradi technology to create a variable fighter that would simplify maintenance and be built in comparatively low numbers once mass production began. When Shinnakasu and Stonewell Bellcom aerospace development divisions merged to form the new company Shinsei Industry in 2012, the VF-5000 officially became the new company's first development project and mass-produced variable fighter. The first flight of the VF-5000 took place in 2018 and mass production began only two years later in 2020. To the surprise of many, some branches of the United Nations Forces complemented or replaced their main variable fighters with the VF-5000 Star Mirage rather than the VF-4 Lightning III, a decision influenced primarily by the significantly lower cost and greater atmospheric maneuverability of the VF-5000.
The VF-5000 project was a success and produced an extremely lightweight and true next-generation variable fighter. The VF-5000 began a trend in lightweight variable fighter development that continued throughout the next two decades until development of the VF-17 Nightmare by General Galaxy in the 2030's. The VF-5000 was designed primarily as a general-purpose lightweight support and air superiority fighter, but when more branches of the UN Forces adopted the VF-5000 as their main variable fighter, the Star Mirage was deployed in many varied roles. Fortunately the VF-5000 is well suited to many types of missions and features a varied armament for combat in almost any theatre. At only 8.3 metric tons and producing 25,000 kg of thrust, the VF-5000 achieves speed and maneuverability beyond the most optimistic performance of previous generation variable fighters. For combat, the Star Mirage features less direct-fire weaponry than older VF-4 variable fighters and is armed with only a single anti-aircraft pulse laser cannon and one gun pod. However, the VF-5000 is the first mass-produced variable fighter to incorporate internal missile bays, featuring four micro-missile launchers mounted in the engines/lower legs and the ventral fuselage/lower arms. This innovative armament design was somewhat ahead of its time and was not adopted for the VF-11 Thunderbolt that replaced the VF-5000. However, the legacy of internal missile weaponry can be found in the VF-17 Nightmare, the VF-19 Excalibur and the VF-22 Sturmvogel variable fighters that followed.
Mass production of the VF-5000 ended in 2029 but the VF-5000 continued deployment in ever expanding roles such as aggressor and trainer assignments after mass production ended. Eventually the aging VF-5000 variable fighter was replaced by Shinsei Industry's own VF-11 Thunderbolt variable fighter in December 2030. The VF-5000 used to be deployed in the Zolan Galactic Whale Patrol unit for years.

Description and History
The General Galaxy YF-21 was built for the Project Super Nova Advanced Variable Fighter (AVF), a competition for a contract with the United Nations Air Force (UNAF) and United Nations Spacy (UNS) to replace the older VF-11 Thunderbolt main variable fighter. When the UNAF announced General Galaxy as one of two final demonstration/validation phase contractors, the company produced two prototypes and a ground based avionics test bed. Development on the YF-21 began in 2034 and produced prototype No. 1 for first flight in 2039. However, it was the first flight of the YF-21 prototype No. 2 at New Edwards Test Flight Center on Planet Eden in January 2040 that General Galaxy revealed the true nature of their next generation fighter. The second prototype eschewed the conventional control cockpit of protoype No. 1 and was integrated with two experimental systems designated brain direct interface system (BDS) and brain direct image system (BDI) in an attempt to achieve unification of pilot and airframe. The BDS allowed the pilot of the YF-21 to operate every control at will and BDI offered an unprecedented view around the craft. This control system improved pilot response time and situational awareness but was only one of two new technologies in the YF-21, the other being an advanced composite material that could alter wing shape and size. It was clear General Galaxy was determined to win the competition by building a technologically superior craft with an emphasis on high mobility performance.
The YF-21 was built with several technologies common to itself and the competing YF-19 from Shinsei Industries; notably an active stealth system, an optional fold booster for interstellar travel and arm-mounted anti-projectile shields (doubling as tail stabilizers in fighter mode). Both variable fighters also employed a new fighter-scale pin-point barrier system, which produced movable spheres of super dimension energy upon the exterior hull of the craft for repelling incoming fire. Zentradi Technology was also implemented in the YF-21 Battroid mode by adopting an enhanced version of the Quimeliquola Queadluun-Rau special inertia vector control system (the YF-21 shares a similar silhouette to that Zentradi mecha). The offensive weaponry of the YF-21 includes a rearward firing super-miniature anti-aircraft laser turret, two forward/rearward laser beam guns, four internal all-environ rapid-fire micro-missile launchers and lastly two Howard/General GV-17L cartridge-less Gatling gun pods featuring retractable grips and stealth covers. In test sorties the YF-21 achieved performance results far beyond last generation variable fighters and the BDS/BDI system was clearly a recognizable improvement over conventional control systems. The YF-21 made use of variable wing cant for incredible speed and, like the YF-19, could achieve satellite orbit unassisted. While most VFs have traditionally situated the main engines within the legs of the Battroid, the YF-21 arranged the engine block in the main body with independent legs. By discarding the mostly dead weight of the arms and legs, the limiter-release mode can attain performance reaching the fuselage design limits and attain high manueverability combat performance exceeding other VFs. However, the pilot operating the limit-release mode bears the effect of dangerous G-forces which exceed the limits of the human body. While the YF-21 was a groundbreaking fighter, development of the craft was hindered by several misfortunes and technologies of questionable practical worth that were either unreliable (BDI/BDS) or too expensive for mass production (composite material wing).
In January 2040 the problems of the YF-21 began appearing more frequently. Test pilot Guld Goa Bowman suffered temporary loss of control of the YF-21 prototype No. 2 in the first fire control system test, which some attributed to failings inherent in the delicate BDS/BDI systems in which control can be lost when mind feedback fails. An investigation by UNAF Super Nova AVF project director, Colonel Millard Johnson, determined later that month that Bowman may have had a neurochemical imbalance attributed to the pilot's Zentradi-Human genetics. Ultimately Colonel Millard suppressed these findings, choosing to retain Bowman as the YF-21 test pilot. In March 2040, Bowman piloted the YF-21 and was ordered to pursue the YF-19 when it was stolen by Isamu Dyson; Dyson planned to disrupt the introduction of the X-9 Ghost on Earth in protest over the February halting of Project Super Nova AVF by the UNG. In what became known as the "Sharon Apple Incident", the YF-21 and X-9 Ghost were both destroyed in a collision following an intense air battle. In 2041, the UNG announced the YF-19 (re-designated VF-19) as the next generation main variable fighter. Though the YF-21 fighter lost Project Super Nova and it production cost was high, the performance of the YF-21 was highly praised and General Galaxy did secure an important contract with the UNS that produced the similar VF-22 Sturmvogel II. In 2042 a small number of VF-22 Sturmvogel II variable fighters were deployed as the special operations units.

Description and History
In the years following the first deployment of the variable fighter the UNG increased the number of variable weapons in the military to fit numerous operational roles. The VA-3 Invader is a Variable Attacker (VA) airframe mass produced for the UN Forces for ground suppression with the special characteristics of both a Variable Fighter (VF) and a destroid. It was developed by Northrom Grumman's aviation division as an all-regime (air and space) variable attack craft equipped with a dedicated ground-attack FCS (Fire Control System).. The VA-3 can perform heavy attack operations and close air/space support, conducting local strikes with tactical reaction armament or attacks using conventional bombs.
The VA-3 airframe design focused on stability and low altitude atmosphere maneuverability. Despite an inferior speed performance compared to variable fighter craft, the Invader design excells in survivability. Weighing 12.81 tons and with a length of 18.73 meters long, the VA-3 Invader is among the largest and heaviest variable vehicles. Capable of carrying almost 20 tons of additional ordnance, the Invader is in every way a superior attack craft able to operate in any environment. Fully variable, the Invader can transform into Attacker, GERWALK and Battroid configurations and features heavy weaponry in all modes. The primary projectile weapon of the VA-3 is the GA-22 60mm multipurpose gatling gun pod, one of the heaviest rotary cannons mounted on a variable craft. The VA-3A and VA-3B models are built without fixed weaponry, but later models feature one laser cannon and one micro-missile launcher mounted in each pontoon/lower arm unit. For all other attack operations, the Invader has six underwing hard points and five fuselage hard points for any load of missile/bomb ordnance up to a total of 19.82 metric tons. The large weapon load makes the Invader ideal for strafing, low-level or high-altitude bombing, tactical strikes and virtually all manner of combat support. The Invader can not only conduct assault operations effectively but can also hold strategic objectives using the variable modes. That versatility in the Battroid and GERWALK configurations allows the VA-3 to participate in the follow up operations of any attack mission without support.
The high operability of the popular VA-3 Invader led to two or more derivative craft to be built utilizing the VA airframe. The VA-3 series has also been widely spread to emigration fleets and even found use in other non-military markets. The VA-3C Custom airframe has been found in the black market where it was obtained and remodeled by a poaching group operating around the planet Zola.

Description and History
In the era following the launch of the Megaroad-01 in 2012, the UNG decided to abandon the larger, heavier variable vehicles like the VF-4 Lightning III in favor of a move toward lighter and more advanced variable fighters such as the VF-5000 Star Mirage and the VF-11 Thunderbolt. However, development resources and military needs were such that building other variable fighters remained a necessity. Beginning in 2025, General Galaxy/Messer began development of the VF-14 Vampire based on Stonewell Bellcom's VF-4 Lightning III and incorporating Zentradi technology into conventional OverTechnology. First flight took place in 2027 and mass production began in 2028. By 2030, the VF-14 had entered active service and during the peak of deployment the Vampire served as main variable fighter on colonization, survey and other fleets. Though the design has been succeeded by next generation variable fighters, the VF-14 Vampire continues production under license at various colonies and other locations. The VF-14 was a fighter design in the "Nova Project" competition but lost to the VF-11 Thunderbolt as the variable fighter to replace the VF-4 Lightning III as the next main fighter. However, the Vampire was found useful on frontier immigration planets and emigrant fleets because it excelled in cruising performance in space and its airframe was easy to maintain. These factors lead to mass production of the VF-14 Vampire.

Description and History
In March 2040 the Project Super Nova Advanced Variable Fighter (AVF) competition ended disastrously for General Galaxy with the complete destruction of their second YF-21 prototype variable fighter in the "Sharon Apple Incident". The UNG military decided to adopt the YF-19 design from Shinsei Industries and mass production of the VF-19 commenced as the new main variable fighter of the UN Forces. General Galaxy however bravely continued onward with their development of the YF-21 and redesigned the brainwave control system so that it was not the primary control system of the craft. This refined BDI operates as a sub-system for control of weapons, chaff, and smoke to assist when high G air-combat maneuvers are required. The active stealth capabilities and payload abilities of the YF-21 were evaluated and General Galaxy produced the VF-22 Sturmvogel II as a special operations Valkyrie built in small numbers. It was a successful gamble for General Galaxy and in December 2042 the decision was made to formerly adopt the VF-22 Sturmvogel II as a special operations variable fighter.
The VF-22 Sturmvogel II retained many of the advanced technologies in the YF-21 prototype fighter. The brainwave control system BDI (Brain Direct Image), the main improvement from the YF-21, was significantly simplified and worked in conjunction with a primary manual operating system within a corresponding cockpit. Simplification of the BDI system reduced the enormous cost of the unit and the weight of the equipment. The cockpit is also redesigned with an overhead spherical canopy offering superior visibility in Fighter and GERWALK configurations. In Battroid mode the forward interior canopy is built with a large partial sphere monitor providing a 180 degree view forward. All three laser cannons on the YF-21 prototype were replaced with converging energy beam guns for the VF-22 but the production model retains the four dorsal missile launchers (in addition to 4 ventral ports) and large missile ordnance stowed in three internal pallets. As a further refinement the VF-22 features two sensor units (one mounted to the rear) in a newly configured head unit as opposed to the five sensors found on the old YF-21. The VF-22 is also armed with two gatling gun pods with retractable stealth covers and includes a pin-point barrier defensive system.
The first VF-22S fighters were manufactured by the Macross 7 fleet Three Star Factory Ship under experimental license. Two fighters were produced and flown by Max and Milia Jenius in the final stages of the Protodeviln War in February 2046.

Description and History
The VF-25 Messiah is one of the newest-generation variable fighters used by humanity in 2059. The VF-25 was independently developed by Shinsei Industry / Macross Frontier Arsenal Original Development / L.A.I. from the YF-24 prototype as the potential successor to the VF-171 Nightmare Plus, the current main variable fighter of the New U.N. Spacy. The Messiah is armed with numerous offensive weapons that include a gatling gun, beam cannons, laser guns mounted in the head unit and a close-combat knife housed within the shield. The VF-25 is built for multipurpose operation and can be customized according to the pilot and the characteristics of the mission. By exchanging multipurpose modules the variable fighter is able to operate as a fighter craft, an attack craft, a fighter-bomber, a reconnaissance craft and command craft for unmanned combat aerial vehicles.
For all previous generations of variable fighters it was nearly impossible for a valkyrie to reach its full potential because there was no technology to overcome the limits of the pilot's body. The AVF Development Project in 2040 addressed this problem and it was overcome via the new Inertia Store Converter (ISC). This technology supports the pilot and reduces inertial forces upon the pilot such that the VF-25 can achieve mobility and combat capability that exceeds the limits of typical manned maneuvering. Another special feature in this new variable fighter is a cockpit designed to connect to the EX-Gear reinforced-exoskeleton (powered suit) designed to support the pilot. Moreover, the power output, armaments, sensors and other systems have all been completely integrated which results in greatly enhanced performance. The VF-25 Messiah can also be fitted with an Armor Pack (no longer limited to Battroid mode only like the old VF-1 Valkyrie's Armored system) or a high-maneuverability Super Pack.
The VF-25 Messiah is currently in early deployment for field testing in real combat scenarios with the Strategic Military Services (S.M.S.) and has not yet been deployed to the New U.N. Forces. The VF-25A is the mass produced version and other variants include the VF-25F Improved Air Combat Ability version, the VF-25G fitted with sniper weaponry, the VF-25S enhanced version for team leaders and the RVF-25 for enhanced electronic warfare operation. The VF-25 Messiah has not yet been adopted by the New UN Forces, but has been mass produced by the Strategic Military Services (SMS) for field testing in real combat scenarios.

Description and History
In 2048, the Vajra threat became apparent to the New UN Spacy as a result of the Gallia 4 incident (the details of which were not made public). To combat the Vajra specifically, the YF-29 was developed in secret with the intention to exceed capabilities of the YF-24, a more general purpose next generation variable fighter being developed at that time. Hence, the YF-29 Durandal became a sibling unit of the similarly designed VF-25 Messiah in which L.A.I. and the Macross Frontier Fleet engineers played a central role. The most significant difference from the VF-25 Messiah is that the YF-29 Durandal features four thermonuclear reaction turbine engines producing a breakthrough in maneuverability performance as a result of greater thrust. The main wings can extend and contract, allowing the wing-mounted engines to be brought closer into the airframe's center of gravity. The VF-25 Messiah – despite being an excellent craft – requires additional equipment like the Armor pack or Tornado pack to effectively oppose the Vajra. The Tornado pack is trial-production hardware for proof-of-concept/data collection and as such it makes the VF-25 Messiah airframe cumbersome. The aerodynamic performance of the YF-29 is improved over the Tornado pack because the twin beam cannon can be stored within the fuselage. In contrast to the VF-25 Tornado pack, the YF-29 features Fold Quartz (extracted from the Vajra) integrated into various systems such as energy converting armor or the fold wave projectors. This fold quartz integration grants the YF-29 Durandal capabilities greater than equivalent standard equipment. Though the YF-29 Durandal shares the VF-25 silhouette, the reworked airframe deviates significantly such that fuselage strength is improved. The YF-29 has acquired the armor strength of the VF-25 Armored pack.
The application of natural-shaped, highly-purified "Philosopher's Stone" fold quartz is the most important design element of the YF-29 Durandal, but is difficult to acquire from Vajra corpses. To harness the fold quartz requires use of an innovation called the Fold Wave system which produces an inexhaustible supply of energy for the YF-29. The Fold Wave hardware is an overdrive system featuring four Fold Quartz and a total of four fold wave devices. These devices were named after the four relics contained in the golden hilt of the saintly sword Durandal; "Saint Peter's tooth", "Saint Basil's blood", "Saint Denis' hair", and "piece of the Blessed Virgin Mary's raiment". Once completed, the YF-29 featured impressive anti-Vajra performance that made operation of the craft very distinctive. In addition to capabilities like communications tracing, the YF-29 can jam Vajra communications through intervention and obstruction of Vajra fold networks via fold waves.
The YF-29 development had been advanced because of the need for anti-Vajra deployment. Although YF-29 development was effectively completed by 2057 it was delayed due to difficulty acquiring fold quartz. SMS pilot Alto Saotome operated a YF-29 Durandal hastily built by arranging parts from the VF-25 Messiah. Therefore, it has unique performance unlike the original design. However, the combat performance of the existing airframe was surpassed in actual combat. Pilot Saotome even used the Super Pack missile launchers to fire while ejected from the YF-29 itself. The fold wave capability of the YF-29 Durandal delivered the fold song to the front lines that played a major role at the end of the conflict with the Vajra.

Description and History
The VF-31A Kairos is a state-of-the-art all-environment variable fighter built by Surya Aerospace. Lead by Shinsei Industries, Surya Aerospace is a joint venture formed from four companies that include L.A.I. (Legodt & Angeloni Industries), Hiotori Aerospace Industries Ltd. (possibly also translated as Feifeng Aerospace) and Bharat. Surya Aerospace both designed and manufactures the VF-31 Kairos variable fighter. In the era of the VF-1 Valkyrie it was assumed that a Battroid could infiltrate and freely move within an enemy warship with the potential to control or destroy its central command. The VF-19 Excalibur and later variable fighters (VFs) have increased in firepower and it has become expected such modern VFs use an optional Fold booster to bypass enemy fleets and defense lines, delivering the aerospace craft directly to the enemy command center. Unlike Δ (Delta) Squadron's VF-31 craft, the VF-31A Kairos is used for pure combat and does not have equipment necessary to support 'Walküre'. The VF-31A and VF-31B are mass production variants, operated by Chaos's ɑ (Alpha), β (Beta) and γ (Gamma) squadrons. Notable features of the VF-31A Kairos include a delta wing main wing design, a pair of fixed rail guns, a beam gunpod in contrast to the traditional projectile gunpod and a rare cockpit design that does not reorient vertically for Battroid mode.
Siegfried Branch: The VF-31 Siegfried is a Surya Aerospace state-of-the-art all-environment variable fighter, one of five variants owned by interstellar conglomerate Chaos (χάος) and operated by Δ (Delta) Squadron Valkyrie unit. Unlike the VF-31A Kairos, Δ (Delta) Squadron's VF-31 Siegfrieds (designated VF-31C, E, F, J and S) are designed specifically for support of "Tactical Musical Unit 'Walküre'" for Var Syndrome suppression. The VF-31F variant of the Siegfried is designed for an Air Superiority role.
The VF-31 Siegfried variable fighters of Δ (Delta) Squadron perform air shows using drone plates during live performances by 'Walküre' and also conduct rescue operations of civilians involved in Var Syndrome riots. When the Second War of Windermerean Independence was waged in 2067 Δ (Delta) Squadron and "Tactical Musical Unit 'Walküre'" were heavily involved in numerous hostilities during the conflict. Prior to the end of the war, Messer Ihlefeld was a member of Δ (Delta) Squadron and piloted the VF-31F Siegfried.

Description and History
Of all the variable fighters of the 2050's perhaps none were more influential than the YF-24 Evolution. The YF-24 was the progenitor of the VF-25 Messiah, the VF-27 Lucifer, the YF-29 Durandal and the YF-30 Chronos variable fighter derived from the Evolution blueprints disseminated by the New UN Forces Headquarters. Design and development of the YF-30 Chronos was secretly carried out independently by the Uroboros branch of SMS led by Uroboros regional director Major Aisha Blanchett, a self-professed genius engineer. Additionally, the new variable fighter was designated a YF prototype to avoid disclosure of the specifications to the New Unified Government. The Chronos airframe shape is notably similar to the YF-24 Evolution but the YF-30 variable mechanism was changed dramatically to accommodate the needs of the new craft's operational objectives. The design of the YF-30 Chronos included parts collected from the Protoculture ruins on Uroboros as well as parts from the Dyaus living weapons that protect the ruins. In addition to incorporating existing technologies, the YF-30 also uses the specially-developed aircraft control AI from the YF-25 Prophecy (known infrequently as Brunnhilde).
The YF-30 Chronos is built using the familiar delta wing shape of the YF-24 and uses a slightly enhanced version of the FF-3001/FC1 engine from the YF-29 Durandal. The Chronos is also equipped with canards to stabilize the aircraft due to changes in aerodynamic center and center of gravity due to transformation or differing loadouts in part caused by the greatest design feature of the craft; the multipurpose ordinance container system. The multipurpose container unit is mounted in the rear center fuselage and can accommodate various types of equipment loads depending on mission requirements. The standard form is the micro-missile package carrying 36 micro-missile launchers but the unit can contain hardware such as beam guns, auxiliary propulsion systems, or electronic warfare equipment. The YF-30 also incorporates the Fold Dimensional Resonance system (an improved version of the YF-29's Fold Wave system) which amplifies song energy, enabling the YF-30 to break through dense fold faults. For this reason the YF-30 Chronos has the alternate designation Variable Super-Dimension Diver.
In 2060 Strategic Military Services 2nd Lieutenant Leon Sakaki was on a mission from the SMS Sephira branch to deliver the control AI for the prototype YF-30. However, Sakaki was shot down by rogue Havamal forces and stranded on Uuroboros by a sharp increase in fold fault activity (called the Uroboros Aurora). Major Aisha Blanchett considered the arrival of Sakaki (and his subsequent assignment as de facto test pilot for the YF-30 Chronos) a "godsend" after the original YF-30 test pilot was seriously injured in a testing accident. Sakaki's emphasis on engine performance during test flights revealed durability problems in the YF-30 and the engine design was revisited as a result. Most infamous of these tests was a Vanquish race against Isamu Alva Dyson in YF-19. Once in active service, Leon Sakaki piloting the YF-30 Chronos was instrumental in rescuing Major Blanchett and singer Mina Forte from the rogue NUNS 815th Independent Squadron "Havamal". Ultimately these sorties foiled the Havamal's attempts to rewrite history using Protoculture technology in the ruins of Uroboros.

Description and History
The VF-3000 is a variable fighter built by Stonewell/Bellcom, a new company formed via the merger of those separately named companies. Born from the need of a successor to the VF-1 Valkyrie the VF-3000 Crusader was one of the capability improvement proposals within the development plan of the VF-1. The Crusader benefitted from extensive operational data of the VF-1 and was designed with the aim of enhancing performance and to improve equipment by enlarging the VF-1 while simultaneously eliminating its shortcomings. The VF-3000 is a much larger variable fighter than the VF-1 yet while performance surpassed that earlier variable fighter the Crusader remained out of full-scale mass production and only a small number were produced for testing. The Crusader was intended to be licensed to various independent national factions within the United Nation Government sphere of influence and was to incorporate proprietary technologies from each buyer. The VF-3000 had a stretched, elongated body that unfortunately tends to make the Battroid/GERWALK joints slip slightly. Possibly due to this design flaw, few Crusader units were ever produced. However, mass production was officially passed in favor of production of the VF-4 Lightning III, a craft developed at the same time that was pushed forward and formerly adopted. Stonewell/Bellcom and Shinnakasu Heavy Industries later developed the VF-5000 Star Mirage utilizing operational data from the VF-3000 Crusader testing units. When the aerospace divisions of Stonewell/Bellcom and Shinnakasu merged to become Shinsei Industry, the VF-5000 Star Mirage became their first mass-produced variable fighter. A few VF-3000 Crusader testing units were deployed with the special operations unit "Dancing Skulls" circa 2020.

Description and History
Beginning development in 2018 and achieving first flight in 2021, the VF-9 Cutlass was General Galaxy's first assignment for chief project advisor Algus Selzer, chief designer of the VF-17 Nightmare and the airframe design director of the YF-21. The Cutlass was conceived as an inexpensive twin-engine light fighter and completed as a multipurpose fighter which pursued combat mobility within atmosphere. However, Captain Milia Jenius was assigned as a test pilot for the Cutlass and her flights displayed the VF-9's superior combat maneuverability to that of the existing main fighter, the VF-4 Lightning III. After these impressive deployments, General Galaxy received massive orders for the VF-9 from smaller budget colony planets and the Cutlass became their first bestselling variable fighter. Mass production of the VF-9 began in 2022 and continued until the final VF-9 was produced in 2029. Max and Milia Jenius piloted VF-9 Cutlass fighters during their assignment to the Dancing Skull Squadron.

Description and History
The Variable Glaug was based upon the Roiquonmi Glaug used by the Zentradi forces in Space War I. The New Nile weaponry base designed the Variable Glaug as a modified variant of the original and the new unit was test piloted during development by Moaramia Jifon. Like variable fighters, the Variable Glaug can transform into Fighter, GERWALK and Battroid configurations and features two arm-mounted beam guns, two anti-personnel guns and one large-bore beam cannon. The Variable Glaug was a potent weapon during initial deployment and after the United Nations Forces successfully assaulted the weaponry base on New Nile facility in 2018, they in turn created their own Variable Glaugs. A Miclone-piloted Variable Glaug for the United Nations Forces was built as well as an unmanned variant known as the Neo Glaug.

Description and History
The U.N. Forces approached all variable fighter manufacturers with a set of specifications for SWX (Stealth Wing X), a programme to combine high stealthiness with air combat capabilities exceeding that of the VF-17 Nightmare. It was the original intention of the U.N. Forces to deploy the VF-17 Nightmare as a long-range attack craft and thus a separate variable fighter was needed for the role of air superiority and defense.
The SW-XAI Schneeblume was the first of these new experimental variable fighters to fulfill the specifications required by the U.N. Forces. With an abundance of combat data obtained during warfare, the VF-1 Valkyrie was chosen as the basis for the SW-XAI. This base design was then improved to current standards by equipping it with upgraded engines and avionics.

Description and History
The SW-XAII Schneegans (like the earlier SW-XAI Schneeblume) was also birthed from the SWX (Stealth Wing X) programme. For the SWX the U.N. The SW-XAII Schneegans is an air defence variable fighter aircraft based upon a remodeled latter period VF-1 model originating in the "SWX", just like the SW-XAI. Since the SW-XAII Schneegans development was delayed more than the SW-XAI, its engines and avionics are stronger than those in the SW-XAI.

Description and History
The Feios was a variable craft born from the malcontent growing within some Zentradi living upon Earth many decades after Space War I. In November 2030, these dissident elements of the Zentradi had conducted attacks in what became known as the Second (Defensive) Battle of Macross City. During the attacks, former Zentradi soldiers who deserted the 63254109th Zentradi Outer Space Army captured a VF-X-11 variable fighter equipped with a fold booster. Not long after this incident, reports began to arise from UN Forces pilots who had sightings of a previously unknown variable combat device. The craft was designated by the code name "Enemy Valkyrie" or "EVA" (pronounced "i-va"). Incorporating an enhanced developmental version of the Queadluun-Rau avionics system and the UN Forces variable fighter technology, the speed and power of the Feios appear to approach - if not exceed - those of the VF-19 and VF-22 variable fighters.
The terrorist Timoshie Daldanton piloted a Feios Valkyrie in battle against Aegis Focker of the UN Spacy 727th Independent Special Command VF-X Ravens. On December 26, 2050 Daldanton in his Feios Valkyrie and a wing of five other variable fighters launched an attack to kill the commander of the VF-X Ravens. However, Focker prevailed in the ensuing battle and Daldanton was killed when his Feios Valkyire was destroyed.

Description and History
The VB-6 König Monster is a large-scale variable bomber with overhelming firepower developed from the HWR-00 Monster destroid deployed in Space War I. Design of the VB-6 was initially advanced by a combined design team from both Northrom and Grumman in 2030. As time went on collaboration began with Shinnakasu (designer of the HWR-00-MkII Monster) and design chief Dr. König Tiegel. It was Shinnakasu and Dr. Tiegel that were responsible for solving various problems with the deterioration of the fuselage strength that accompanied the installation of the variable mechanism into the craft. By 2032, the VB-6 König Monster accomplished its maiden flight and the start of mass production. Many completed craft were deployed to special forces and in 2040 three VB-6 units (one machine was a spare for parts) were delivered to Strategic Military Services (SMS) in the Macross Frontier fleet. By 2059, the VB-6 belonging to S.M.S. featured various upgrades from the original specifications and had participated actively on the front lines of the Vajra War.
Like the HWR-00 upon which it is designed, the role of the VB-6 König Monster is to field heavy weapons and artillery. Though the VB-6 is a versatile variable craft with heavy armoring and high defensive capabilities, the König is a very heavy craft that is restricted in movement. The powerful offensive payload of the VB-6 is most successfully utilized strategically when supported by other variable fighters. The S.M.S.-specification VB-6 König Monster has improved mobility attained by a change in the armor material. This change has lightened the craft as well as provided a small increase in atmospheric speed. In addition to these changes the SMS Type VB-6 has greater projectile resistance than the mass-produced König Monster owing to a change of armor to the same enhanced energy conversion armor/light-composite armor system used in the VF-25 Messiah armor pack. A final defensive modification to the SMS-Type VB-6 is the installation of a pin-point barrier system.
In 2051, Captain Aegis Focker was assigned a VB-6 König Monster in an urban combat sortie against Vindirance terrorist forces.

Description and History
The VA-3M is a variant of the standard Invader variable fighter built to be used for underwater warfare as well as surface/air operations. The VA-3M utilizes the same head unit as the VA-3 but features completely new pontoon/arm units. The amphibious VA-3M is armed with missiles and torpedoes for underwater combat and both of the traditional laser cannons in the forward pontoons/arm units are replaced with more versatile beam guns. When submerged underwater, the VA-3M has a special configuration that folds the main wings down and the rear horizontal stabilizers rotate forward to assist in underwater maneuvering. On December 1st, 2050 the 727th Independent VF-X Ravens "Alpha Team" pursued the Vindarance terrorists to Eden 3. In order to assault the submarines of the Vindarance forces, Commander Aegis Focker of the VF-X Ravens piloted a VA-3M and attacked the underwater forces. The heavy weaponry and versatile capabilities of the M variant Invader helped Focker succeed in destroying the enemy forces.

Description and History
The implementation of proper combined arms warfare included the deployment of unmanned combat craft in which the pilot could remotely attack the enemy from relative safety. Unfortunately the officially adopted 'Ghost' drone suffered poor field performance and due to interim pilot shortages aboard the SDF-1 Macross development began on the next unmanned aerospace craft. The QF-9iE Ghost II (Phantom) has a significantly upgraded armament, with a twin 35 mm cannon turret under the craft's ventral side and four 20 mm machine guns within the central forward fuselage. As development continued, the Phantom was further equipped with many 12-tube missile launchers and beam cannon turrets. This armament provided the QF-9iE Ghost II with exceptional combat capability. The Phantom is also equipped with many mobile sensor and communication systems to relay information to the remote pilot. Although this carried the risk of counter measures, unmanned combat drones like the Phantom reduced the probability of losing human life in battle.

Description and History
During Space War I, the SDF-1 Macross was the only UN Spacy ship that could successfully face the Zentradi Army. In this situation, the HWR-00 Destroid Monster Mk II was the only small-scale mobile weapons system able to participate in attacks between large space warships. As a result, an inexpensive long-range destroid was urgently required and a plan implemented to use the MBR-04 ambulatory system. In this way, a new Type 04 series destroid was equipped with large long-range missile launchers and forward-facing laser guidance systems. Although the LDR-04 lacks a large number of missiles compared to the SDR-04 Destroid Phalanx Mk XII, the Destroid Maverick is comparable in terms of overall firepower.

Description and History
The ADR-03 MkIII Cheyenne is a Type 03, mass-produced, trial-manufactured anti-aircraft Destroid designed as an interception robot for both fixed and mobile defense aboard carriers. The Cheyenne features a mid-range armament characteristic of the Type 04 series MBR-04-Mk VI Tomahawk Destroid and the ADR-04-Mk X Defender (both of which are highly regarded for reliable armament and excellent productivity). The ADR-03 MkIII and Type 04 series were both jointly developed by Centinental Corporation and Clansman Corporation. Favorable evaluation of the reliability of the armaments and the low production costs of the units resulted in mass production. The ADR-04 Mk X Defender was mass produced as the primary anti-aircraft Destroid, but due to production difficulties the ADR-03 MkIII Cheyenne (which was experiencing smooth mass production and demonstrated sufficient combat performance) was pushed forward.
The Cheyenne was highly reliable and cheap to mass-produce with existing technology but did suffer from some drawbacks. The body structure lacked refinement of the Type 04 series and had a fragile 2-leg walking system that provided only a slow speed. To compensate the ADR-03 MkIII was equipped with a roller system featuring wheels on the knee and ankle for high-speed maneuvering. The Cheyenne also lacked a small-sized thermonuclear reactor used as the main engine in the Type 04 series and had to rely upon a gas turbine engine. The ADR-03 MkIII was equipped a rocket motor for jumping and maneuvering in the air or in space. However, due to low practicality and a danger from induced detonation, the rocket motor was removed from the Type 04 series. The Cheyenne did feature a special capability that allowed the Destroid to be remotely operated as an automatic turret within the anti-aircraft system of a carrier.
The Cheyenne was also produced as an anti-air missile variant with two missile launching pods similar to the SDR-04-Mk XII Destroid Phalanx (replacing the gatling gun arm units). The Destroid Cheyenne was highly reliable and cheap to mass-produce but due to ammunition limits it was prohibited from prolonged combat. During UN Spacy operations around the island of Mayan in September 2008, the Destroid Cheyenne was deployed aboard the aircraft carrier CVN-99 Asuka II.

Description and History
In 2007, the Unification Wars ended badly for the Anti-U.N. and the United Nations Government firmly established itself on Earth. Despite their loss, the A.U.N. held considerable influence and resources, using both to continue espionage against the U.N.G. Armed with OverTechnology illicitly obtained from the U.N.G.'s military programs, the A.U.N. developed their own variable fighter designated the SV-51. Built and flown before the VF-1 series of the U.N. Spacy, the SV-51 is powered by overtuned conventional engines rather than the more powerful thermonuclear reaction engines. Nonetheless, the SV-51 was designed to be a practical combat machine and operational deployment revealed the SV-51's stability in battle over that of the U.N.G.'s competing VF-0 fighter. In September 2008, the SV-51 entered active service in the A.U.N. and was utilized in a recovery operation of an alien artifact around the island of Mayan in the South Pacific Ocean, the details of this conflict remaining secret for nearly 50 years.
The SV-51 is a large fighter with numerous weapons and fully variable systems. Capable of transforming into both GERWALK and Battroid mode, the SV-51 utilized one Gsh-371 55mm gun pod as its primary weapon. The SV-51 also featured a fixed mini-gun (two in SV-51γ) and six hard points for mounting missile launchers and auxiliary fuel pods. Several additional systems added to the effectiveness of the SV-51 including a high-efficiency active stealth system and two fan jets for VTOL capabilities in fighter mode. In comparison, the U.N.G.'s VF-0 fighter possessed a lower output stealth system and no such VTOL capabilities in fighter mode. Though the SV-51 enjoys numerous advances over last-generation conventional fighters, the craft does suffer from several design flaws. The size of the aircraft places a burden on the transformation actuators leading to a longer transformation time from one mode to the next. Lacking thermonuclear reaction engines needed to properly operate a variable fighter meant the SV-51 has a much shorter range due to high fuel consumption. Rather than cruising to a destination using it's own fuel, it was often necessary for the SV-51 to be transported to the operational area, typically by a modified submarine and launched from underwater. The SV-51 was jointly developed by Sukhoi, Israel Aircraft Industries and Dornier and progressed 1-2 years earlier than the VF-0 schedule (reaching a practical stage by the end of the UN War). The SV-51 is the first combat-type variable fighter (VF) in history that members of the Anti-UN Alliance developed for combat against giant aliens. Like the VF-0 Phoenix of the U.N. Forces, the SV-51 was a developmental unit. However, the SV-51 was unlike the hastily combat-equipped VF-0 Phoenix in that the Anti-U.N. craft was considered for use in actual combat from the very beginning.
The SV-51 saw very limited production, with 32 mass-production type SV-51α (alpha) units manufactured (a dozen would have been modified for the SV-52). A further 6 two-seater variants were built and a small but unknown number of specially tuned versions designated the SV-51γ. A.U.N. ace pilots Nora Polyansky and D.D. Ivanov flew SV-51γ (gamma) fighters during the events around the island of Mayan in 2008.

- Armament - Bombs & Missiles: 5 x micro-missile launchers (mounted in ports upon the nose)
Description and History
A predecessor to the QF-3000E unmanned aerospace fighter, the QF-2200D Ghost is a small, lightweight, high-maneuverability unmanned reconnaissance fighter. The violent chaos in the early stages of the U.N. Wars found the U.N. Forces lacking skilled pilots and so following mass production in 2002 the QF-2200D was deployed to the frontlines in large quantities. Since the craft was almost without any OverTechnology, it is designed and produced with existing technology suitable for mass production for a relatively low manufacturing cost.
The QF-2200D is primarily developed to conduct high-speed, armed reconnaissance at relatively low altitudes. It possesses superior stealth, small lightweight construction and an unusually powerful engine that imposes difficulty for detection nets attempting to track it. The Ghost’s lack of a pilot allows for a maximum instantaneous maneuverability of 25G. The exceptional performance of the QF-2200D is such that it became noted for its fighting strength over main fighter craft for close-in combat situations. The autonomous AI that controls the craft can be supplemented by remote control from the ground or orbiting satellite. The existing materials of the Ghost make it difficult to maintain both heat resistance and stealth at higher speeds. This limits the maximum speed because the ratio of maximum speed to engine thrust is low.
The QF-2200D series includes numerous variant models, ranging from a low-speed, long-range reconnaissance model mounted with a low-fuel-consuming turbofan jet to a high-speed, high-altitude reconnaissance model mounted with a turbofan/ramjet. One of the more notable models is the QF-2200D-A long-distance reconnaissance variant with added sensor system upon the dorsal nose. Another notable model is the QF-2200D-B variant equipped with a high-thrust turbofan jet (unsuitable for such a small lightweight craft) that was modified for use as a booster upon the VF-0 Phoenix "Angel" special attack/assault specification. The CVN-99 Asuka II's maintenance crewmembers initially intended to only use the QF-2200D-B engine, but due to limited time they converted almost the entire vehicle as a booster. QF-2200D-A and QF-2200D-B Ghost fighters were deployed aboard the CVN-99 Asuka II during the events surrounding the island of Mayan in 2008.

Description and History
The prototype HWR-00-MkIP (Heavy Weight Robot) trial production-type Monster is a super-heavy class Destroid. A predecessor to the HWR-00-MkII Monster, the MkIP first saw action fighting terrestrial threats during the events surrounding the Island of Mayan in 2008. The MkIP was a human-designed vehicle for maximizing non-rail ground artillery of the time and emphasized long-range artillery capability common with the later MkII Monster series. However, unlike the MkII this prototype destroid was equipped with arms (manipulators).
The HWR-00 series was developed jointly by Viggers and Centinental and was built with many immature parts. The MkIP was an experimental Destroid designed to feature self-propelled heavy artillery. The legs suffer low mobility on any irregular surfaces so the walking was limited (a fault which remained in successor units). The most distinctive characteristic of the MkIP's body structure is the large-sized folding manipulators built into each arm. The manipulators are typically retracted in a stowed configuration but can be deployed for use in ammunition delivery, firing position adjustment, and other such manual duties. When the HWR-00 series moved to the MkII, these manipulators were abandoned in favor of missile launchers to provide additional firepower via long-range precision-guided munitions. Yet other similar features, such as a rear-mounted dozer blade mechanism utilized for support when firing, was inherited in later HWR-00 series units.
The MkIP was rolled out in February 2007 with only a single unit manufactured. The MkIP was provided to U.N. Force conducting the containment plan of the extraterrestrial remains on Mayan Island in 2008. Though deployment of the MkIP represented the risk of an information leak about the new weapon, it was considered acceptable to carry out the final operational test in actual combat. When "Operation Iconoclasm" was put in motion the MkIP was fitted with reaction warheads and tasked with an attempt to annihilate the "Bird Human" (code named AFOS).

Description and History
The Octos is a variable amphibious destroid designed and built by the Anti-United Nations forces to fight in the U.N. Wars. The Octos is capable of functioning in two mode; one, a submarine for operations at sea and a second ground combat quadruped mode which allows the Octos to operate on land. The Octos was built with numerous weapon systems which allowed the robot to fight effectively in a variety of environments and against any kind of adversary from enemy ground and air vehicles to enemy infantry. Like the Cheyenne Destroid of the U.N. Forces, the Octos was also equipped with wheels for much more rapid mobility on land. Production costs for the Octos were high and thus only a small number were manufactured. Even with some failures, the Octos earned a reputation as a sturdy unit in combat. The first roll-out of the Octos happened in 2006 and by the end of the U.N. Wars, 92 Octos machines had been produced. The U.N. Forces continued production of the Octos, producing some 28 units until Space War I when the production line was destroyed.

Description and History
The Saratoga II CV-565 is a Uraga Class type vessel which served as the mobile space fleet carrier for the 727th Independent Special Command VF-X Ravens. Though the Saratoga II CV-565 shares much the same structure as the Uraga Class, it is notably different in several ways. The Saratoga II semi-trimaran hull differs from the catamaran-style hull of the standard Uraga Class and the foward deck dominates most of the ship with only 1/3rd of the rear dedicated to the upper hangar. This deck configuration of the Saratoga II contrasts with most Uraga Class vessels where the upper deck is roughly 2/3rds the length of those typical ships. The ship carried Captain Aegis Focker and his squadron as they fought against the newly formed terrorist group known as the Vindirance in 2050.

Description and History
The Battle 13 is a New Macross Class (Battle Class) vessel that was involved in the last major battle between the Earth-Supremacist faction Latence and the VF-X Ravens supported by Vindirance, a group opposed to the facist Latence faction. Under the command of corrupt UN Spacy Colonel Wilbur Garland, the Battle 13 was seized by Latence forces in 2051. Equipped with the special wide-area weapon jamming system created by the Critical Path Corporation, Garland commanded the Battle 13 against the UN Spacy armada in Earth orbit. The UN Spacy armada was unable to launch an effective counter attack with the jamming device in operation and as a result the Battle 13 destroyed several UN Spacy warships. Fortunately, Captain Aegis Focker of the 727th Independent Special Command VF-X Ravens lead his pilots in a daring assault upon the Battle 13. Fighting past numerous Ghost X-9 fighters and Wilbur Garland himself (piloting a VF-22 Sturmvogel II), Captain Focker was able to destroy the wide-area weapon jamming device mounted upon the Battle 13. In a spectacular assault the remaining UN Spacy warships destroyed the Battle 13, in effect vanquishing the Latence Earth-supremacist cabal for good.
As of 2059, former SDF-1 Macross officer Kim Kabirov was assigned as captain of the Battle 13, suggesting a new ship was built following the destruction of the original vessel in 2051.

Description and History
The Uraga Class Escort Battle Carrier is the next generation stealth carrier built to replace the Guantánamo Class Stealth Carriers. The Uraga Class, built with weaponry, armor and maneuverability comparable to a cruiser, is often used as the flagship of small fleets. At 550 meters long, the Uraga Class ships are much larger conventional spacecraft but still significantly smaller than the SDF-1 Macross or the later New Macross Class ships. The Uraga is built with a stealth composition and features a dual deck launching system for variable fighters; one deck running the latter dorsal two-thirds of the ship and an internal deck underneath with a launching deck in the forward third. This efficient deck design allows rapid deployment of multiple craft simultaneously and has become common on many UN Spacy carrier vessels.
These ships are rare among colonization fleets due to their high costs compared to the ARMD carriers but the UNG remains committed to replacing the older ARMD carriers one by one with Uraga Class vessels. As more Uraga Class Escort Battle Carriers are built, they are poised to become the mainstay combat and carrier ship for the UN Spacy. Many Uraga Class vessels are part of Earth's defense fleet in 2040 and are found serving as command ships for large groups of Guantánamo Class Stealth Carriers and Stealth Frigates. Several Uraga Class Escort Battle Carriers are also in active service with the 37th Long-Distance Colonization Fleet, serving as defensive stations docked to unarmed core ships such as the Riviera and Hollywood.

Description and History
In the years following Space War I, the United Nations Government (UNG) quickly rebuilt lost infrastructure and soon the UN Spacy was rebuilding the fleet. Impressed with the initial combat performance and multi-functionality of the ARMD Class Space Carriers, the UN Spacy pursued design and construction of a next generation ARMD Class vessel. The result is the Guantánamo Class Stealth Carrier, an improved space carrier with stealth capabilities and its own Space Fold System for interstellar travel. As a carrier, the Guantánamo Class has a large launch bay in the forward section, a dock in the aft section of the ship (for arrivals and departures, possibly also acts as a link with larger vessels) and large external fuel tanks with stealth covers. Though this class of vessel utilized many new technologies, the economy of design proved relatively inexpensive and the UN Spacy deployed massive numbers of Guantánamo Stealth Carriers. These ships are found primarily as the main-force carrier in the colonization fleets, but the Guantánamo Class Stealth Carrier is also used extensively for planetary defense. In 2040, Earth has a vast defense fleet stationed in orbit consisting of numerous vessels that included the Guantánamo Class ships as well as thousands of armed defense satellites spread amongst the fleet.

Description and History
The X-9 Ghost (nicknamed "Ghost Bird") was developed as an unmanned combat aerial vehicle for use within and outside of atmosphere. The goal of the X-9 project was to replace manned variable fighter aircraft with unmanned AI-controlled craft capable of achieving superior performance. The X-9 possesses incredible maneuverability and firepower without the restrictions of a living pilot and boasts performance that exceeds in all areas the next generation variable fighters. Furthermore, the Sharon-type artificial intelligence, a completely autonomous-control-type AI applied from the Sharon Apple core, was mounted and demonstrated combat ability unlike earlier Ghosts equipped with conventional semi-autonomous AI (such as the QF-3000E Ghost).
Senior UN leadership, led by General Gomez, pushed develpoment of the X-9 project in secret on Earth and became a force for the replacement of manned fighters with AI controlled war machines. The primary obstacle to the adoption of computer controlled military materiel was the lack of intelligently adaptive programming. The X-9 overcame this problem by utilizing an autonomous-control-type AI taken from the Sharon Apple core, that was itself a product of the bio-neural microchip. The result of this AI architecture was an unpredictable artificial intelligence, but unfortunately the Sharon autonomous-control-type AI also created an intense self-preservation psychology. Under direction of Gomez, Captain Higgins of the U.N. Spacy and Marge Gueldoa of the Macross Consortium conspired to keep the details of the X-9 Ghost AI a secret. There is little doubt that Gomez and his co-conspirators were hoping that once field tests proved the X-9 performed far beyond any next generation variable fighter, the U.N. Spacy would have little choice but to finally adopt an unmanned spaceplane as the primary fighter of the U.N. Forces.
The X-9 was to be publicly unveiled at the 30th Anniversary of the Space War One Armistice in Macross City on Earth. Unfortunately, virtual singing idol Sharon Apple was also implanted with a bio-neural chip and became mentally unstable. After subduing the people of Macross City with high-frequency light and sound, Sharon Apple seized control of the X-9 Ghost computer and sent it to destroy the YF-19 piloted by Isamu Dyson and the YF-21 piloted by Guld Bowman. The X-9 proved more than a match for both the YF-19 and the YF-21 and able to dogfight the two fighters at once. The X-9 Ghost delivered several hits upon both fighters while remaining undamaged yet it was eventually defeated by Guld Bowman, but only at the cost of Bowman's life in a suicide run. With the X-9 prototype destroyed and the bio-neural chip scandal exposed in what came to be called the "Sharon Apple Incident," the Ghost project was abandoned.

Description and History
The smallest of the UN Spacy ships of the line, the Northampton Class Stealth Frigate is an easily constructed vessel and functions as the main-force warship for colonization fleets. The main engines are built around the center circumference of the rear hull and supply the 250-meter long frigate with excellent speed and maneuverability that compensates for a lack of heavy firepower. Like many of the next generation space vessels of the UNG, the stealth frigate features a stealth composition and functions as a carrier ship for variable fighters. In battle the stealth frigate utilizes several concealed launch bays for the fighters and has several anti-ship missile launchers and converging energy beam cannons. The widespread use of this class has lead to the deployment of numerous modified Northampton frigates such as firepower-enhanced, reconnaissance and early-warning variants. The stealth frigates have also been adopted by Zentradi crews and these ships feature more Zentradi technology with distinctive hull designs. The stealth frigate fulfill a primary operational role and thus there are large numbers of these ships serving in the UN Spacy fleets, from planetary defense around Earth to far reaching colony fleets like the 37th long-distance colonization fleet. Stealth Frigates serve as the first defensive line in the emigration fleets, with aircraft carriers forming the second defense line. Additionally, a squadron of stealth frigates will operate as "pilot fish" for surveying routes and securing supplies ahead of a emigration fleet. By 2045, there were more than 9,000 Northampton Class Stealth Space Frigates built. The Northampton holds the distinction of being the New UN Forces most produced starship and is still in mass production as of 2059.

Description and History
A next generation aircraft evolving from the hypersonic lifting-body Superbird series of unmanned fighter-bombers, the QF-3000E became an all-environment unmanned craft used throughout the U.N. forces. As an unmanned spaceplane the "Ghost" was aptly named like previous AI-controlled craft but the QF-3000E is much larger than its predecessors. Carrying numerous cannons and internal missiles makes the Ghost a potent weapon and the craft is often used in large numbers, sometimes equaling the manned fighter compliment onboard some U.N. carrier ships. Issues experienced with the reaction engine in the QF-3000E helped in the development of the VF-X. At the beginning of Space War One in February 2009, there were 120 QF-3000E's stationed aboard the SDF-1 Macross with a further 270 units deployed on ARMD-01. Less than 100 QF-3000E Ghost fighter units survived to remain active after the conclusion of Space War I.
