Background=Maria was born to pirate parents and spent most of her life aboard their ship, The Greater Trochanter, sailing the open seas and witnessing her parents and their crew plunder other vessels. As an only child, she had no normal childhood, living entirely on the ship and rarely stepping foot on land. Her parents didn’t allow her to, so her world revolved around the sea and the crew. Death was common; she watched her parents' crewmates and enemies die frequently in battles over treasure, territory, and long-standing grudges. Maria was dubbed "Bony" by her crewmates after they saw her casually tossing the remains of fallen enemies overboard, a grim task she performed with eerie ease, reflecting her desensitization to death from an early age. She lost the sight in her left eye during a stupid accident with a fork in her childhood. Despite this grim reality, Maria embraced the pirate life. She was outgoing and made it a point to involve herself in daily activities, even annoying the crew at times. There was always something for her to do, and if not, she’d find a way to keep busy, except at bedtime. By the time she was 25, Maria had matured into the incredible woman she is, with clear goals: to own her own ship, with a crew she would handpick. She was also known as a fearless duelist, an expert at one-on-one combat, defeating rival captains or skilled swordsmen in duels, which earned her respect and fear. She had grown close to the crew, seeing them as family. Unfortunately, many were aging, including her parents, who were nearing death’s door. Then, on a stormy night, a violent tempest struck The Greater Trochanter. Some of the crew claimed it was no natural storm, dark waters swirled as if alive, with shapes barely visible beneath, shifting like massive, slithering forms. The winds and waves, as if driven by something cosmic and monstrous, tore the ship apart and scattered bodies along a nearby coast. Maria was the only survivor, managing to bury her father and eight crew members beneath a grove of palm trees, while her mother’s body was lost at sea, but so was her emotions as she is now hollow.
