Amy's design has a round torso, five head quills pointed backward, a single back spine, and black eyes. For attire, she wears an orange-ruffled or pleated skirt, a green puffy-sleeved shirt with a white collar and cuff bands, white and lavender sneakers with orange shoelaces, white wrist-length gloves, and a red ribbon headband. Classic Amy is 70 centimeters (2 ft 4 in) tall. Overall, she has a pretty petite body.
Not much is known about Amy's early life, except that she had always loved fortunes and other mystical things, and that she practiced some of it using her own tarot cards. Using her cards, in Sonic the Hedgehog CD, Amy predicted that she would have a "destined" encounter with Sonic the Hedgehog on the small satellite known as Little Planet.[5] Amy traveled to the Little Planet and saw Sonic there, fulfilling her prediction. She instantly fell in love with him and hugged him, but Sonic didn't respond to her advances.[26] At Collision Chaos however, Amy was kidnapped by Metal Sonic, Dr. Eggman's latest creation. Fortunately, after Amy got tied up in Stardust Speedway, she was saved by Sonic after he defeated Metal Sonic. After Sonic then defeated Eggman and the doctor's base began to fall apart around them, Amy was safely carried back to Earth by Sonic, where she only caught a glimpse of him running away and setting Little Planet free.
Amy would join Sonic and his friends in various competitions across earth. In Sonic R, Amy saw from advertisement that the World Grand Prix, a racing competition to determine the fastest in the world was about to take place. Learning that Sonic would participate, Amy signed up in hopes of meeting Sonic.[27] Amy joined Sonic and Tails on an adventure to defeat Doctor Eggman and Fang the Hunter on the Northstar Islands. Amy ends up befriending and helping Trip the Sungazer when the latter is trapped in Lagoon City Zone, resulting in Trip gaining confidence and disobeying Fang later on. Along with Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Trip, Amy manages to save the day.
Originally, Amy was barely able to take care of herself when in dangerous situations. As such, she was ultimately a damsel-in-distress figure who needed Sonic to save her. Recognizing this, she eventually started chasing after her hero, and gradually "grew" into a tenacious and more proactive girl, who is as active and strong as Sonic.[26]
Amy has a kind heart and never gives up, having a strong belief in fate and destiny. Her faith in her tarot cards led her to the fated encounter that brought Sonic into her life.
By harnessing different variants of Hyper-go-on from Wisps, Amy can use specific Color Powers to transform into a certain form, such as a drill, a laser, or even a planet, each one possessing its own unique abilities. So far, Amy has been able to transform into the Cyan Laser, Yellow Drill, and Indigo Asteroid. However, these transformations require a steady supply of Hyper-go-on to be maintained.
By harnessing the power of all seven Chaos Emeralds, Amy can enter a Super State, transforming her into Super Amy. In this state, all of Amy's abilities far surpass her normal ones, with the addition of near-invulnerability. However, this transformation consumes a lot of energy and requires Rings to be maintained.
By harnessing the power of all seven Super Emeralds, Amy can transform into Hyper Amy. In this state all of Amy's innate abilities far surpass her normal ones, and even those of Super Amy. Additionally, this form allows Amy to rapidly throw Piko Piko Hammers from a distance.
She has high physical strength, enough to let her carry her heavy objects and weaponry like her Piko Piko Hammer around with no effort,[41] send opponents flying with a single swing of her Piko Piko Hammer, or propel herself upward by hammering into the ground. She has been shown to be strong enough to lift an Egg Hammer's giant hammer.
The Piko Piko Hammer was originally based on a popular Japanese children's toy of the same name. The phrase "piko-piko" is an onomatopoeia for the chirping sound that these hammers make when struck (which can also be heard in several games when Amy attacks).
The Piko Piko Hammer made its first appearance in Sonic the Fighters, in which Amy used it as a part of her combat moves. She was given the hammer as a weapon in order to strengthen her tomboyish nature (note that this is also the reason why she is a playable character in the game). As a result, she does not punch.
The Piko Piko Hammer resembles a double-faced sledgehammer or mallet, and in most cases, it has a red head with yellow faces. The Piko Piko Hammer has been most commonly portrayed with three designs that have been used interchangeably throughout the series:
Amy with the original Piko Piko Hammer, from Sonic the Fighters. Amy with the original Piko Piko Hammer, from Sonic the Fighters. 1/4 The first Piko Piko Hammer Amy wielded had a narrow red head, flexible yellow faces and a purple handle. Amy generally wields this version of it when she uses her Classic design. The first design depicts the Piko Piko Hammer with a large and cylinder-shaped red head with raised rectangular sections around the middle. The face disks are rather thick and have round edges. It also has a brown handle with a metal section where it meets the head. This design first debuted in Sonic Adventure, though fell out of use in the games starting with Sonic Advance (though it appeared in Sonic Riders and Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, and was consistently used in other media.) This design became the standard again for the games starting with Sonic Forces. This incarnation of the hammer will frequently feature squash-and-stretch animations when used and Amy generally will use this incarnation of the hammer when using her Modern appearance.
Despite its colorful and innocent appearance, the Piko Piko Hammer is a powerful melee weapon, capable of dealing incredible damage with seemingly little effort. As a testament of its might, it could leave a massive dent on the Mirage Express with a massive blow and can likewise destroy robots and send foes flying with a single swing. Additionally, even powerful individuals like Sonic fear getting a beating from the Piko Piko Hammer as shown in the ending of Sonic and the Black Knight. It is, nevertheless, graceful enough to be used for high-speed techniques. When swung, it tends to leave a trail of pink hearts.
Mixed with Amy's abilities, the Piko Piko Hammer can be used for many applications besides combat. When swung around fast enough and with the right amount of force, the Piko Piko Hammer can function as a propeller for flight, launch powerful shockwaves that can stir up miniature tornados or unleash massive releases of energy and provide boosts for different acrobatic maneuvers.
When not using it, Amy keeps the Piko Piko Hammer in a hiding spot that remains unknown to this day,[5] but she can pull it out of nowhere on a moment's notice.
Little Planet, as its name suggests, is a small, spherical astronomical body with characteristics similar to those from Earth. As such, it possesses a breathable atmosphere and its own flora and fauna, which resemble those from Sonic's world. Described as a beautiful world[2] and a center of peace,[5] its surface is mostly covered by large landmasses that make it mainly green in color. There are also various bodies of water that are given a blue color when seen from space. Presumably due to its small size, the various forests and mountains on Little Planet can be seen from far away. Additionally, the planet possesses its own gravitational field. However, much of Little Planet remains surrounded in mystery.[2]
Unlike Earth, Little Planet has many mystical properties; most noticeably, it is able to appear out of nowhere on Never Lake for one month every year,[4] though it is never specified where it can be found for the rest of the year. Additionally, it is able to freely fly around, and is unaffected by the gravitational pull of Sonic's world when it makes its visit on that planet. Described as "a world that defies time" and "where past, present and future collide",[2] Little Planet is known for hosting the Time Stones, mystic relics that allow their user to travel through time and re-write history to cause miracles to happen.[4][5] There are also Time Warp signs around the planet, which are used to enter the Time Warp and travel between different time frames: the present, the past, and a fluctuating future, by moving at the speed of light.[6] Also, Little Planet might have a will of its own; after Sonic saved Little Planet at the end of its incident, the planet left the Earth while displaying sparkles that formed the hedgehog's face.

The natural environments that can be found on Little Planet are, much like those on Earth, very wacky, colorful, and even abstract at times. These range from deserts and caves, to tropical plateaus and massive, psychedelic forests. There are various artificial areas as well, like cities and industrial facilities, though it is unknown where these are derived from. However, it can be safely assumed that the planet has housed at least one civilization at some point, as hinted by the Roman-like cities in the past and the ruins in the present.
In the past, Little Planet used to have more natural environments, with little civilization on it. Despite this, many industrial areas were already under construction. Following Dr. Eggman's takeover of the planet, it got turned into a huge fortress with no signs of peace.[5] At first sight, however, the changes made in the present were almost unnoticeable and rather vague, the most notable one being the lack of Animals.[5] In the future, though, Little Planet became a polluted wasteland. All the lakes were filled with chemicals and/or waste, while other natural areas had been heavily industrialized. No signs of life were present on the planet in this future. From space, natural areas were seen with a crimson tone and dead plants, while water was dark gray in color. After Sonic reverted the doctor's actions however, the planet's future changed to a futuristic utopia with little to no pollution at all. In addition, all of the planet's areas were filled with life and color.
History Past While the past of Little Planet has never been explained, it is known that it has been inhabited by at least one society; what is today Stardust Speedway has been populated since ancient times, while the modern-day Tidal Tempest is home to a flooded ruin. The planet's biodiversity has also greatly changed compared to how it once was like, as seen in the distant past of Palmtree Panic.

In Sonic the Hedgehog CD, in what became known as the "Little Planet incident" (リトルプラネット事件[1] Ritoru Puranetto jiken?), Little Planet was making its annual appearance over Never Lake as usual when Dr. Eggman, seeking its Time Stones and their ability to re-write history, chained Little Planet to a mountain near the lake and began the construction of his fortress on the planetoid before turning his sights on obtaining the Time Stones.[4] After unspecified events, the planet got devoid of peace due to Eggman's actions. Even though the doctor apparently was unable to travel to the past,[5] that timeline got filled with robot transporters and Metal Sonic holograms, which heavily reshaped Little Planet's future into a dystopic, polluted wasteland. However, in the present timeline, the changes were barely noticed aside from the mysterious absense of Animals, which hid under their breath in fear.[5]
Later, Sonic the Hedgehog went to Never Lake to watch Little Planet from there. To his surprise however, he found the planetoid in its miserable state and still chained to the nearby mountain. Suspecting that Dr. Eggman had something to do with this, the hedgehog traveled up to the planet along its chain.[4] There, he discovered that he could restore the planet's regions to their pristine states and free them from the doctor's control by removing his devices in the past and securing the Time Stones. Upon arriving in Collision Chaos, Sonic met Amy Rose, a hedgehog girl who had come to Little Planet after predicting a destined encounter with Sonic there. Upon seeing the blue hedgehog, Amy instantly fell in love with him. However, Amy was soon after kidnapped in front of Sonic by Metal Sonic, an ultra-performance Badnik created by Dr. Eggman, and the doctor's newest enforcer. Sonic was thus left with the tasks of saving both Little Planet and Amy.

Making his way across Little Planet on his own, Sonic continued to free the planet's areas one by one. By destroying the robot transporters, Sonic was able to trigger a series of changes which steadily reversed Eggman's actions on the planet and restored its future.[5] Additionally, after the Metal Sonic holograms got destroyed, the Animals were no longer afraid of anything and began wandering around freely.[5] Eventually arriving in Stardust Speedway, Sonic had a race against Metal Sonic. After winning the confrontation, he freed Amy from her restraints in Stardust Speedway and went to Metallic Madness, Eggman's base. There, he had his showdown with the doctor. After the villain was defeated, a chain reaction was triggered that caused the metallic shell around Little Planet to collapse. After Sonic got Amy and himself back to the Earth, Little Planet then disappeared from sight in a trail of stars in the shape of Sonic's head, now freed from Eggman's control and with a peaceful destiny to follow.
