She could only watch as Polynesians died at the hands of European guns and swords, and when she was unable to protect the people who had come to rely on her as a protector, she was so traumatized that she turned and became the mischievous spirit of Mana, hoping that they would stop seeing her as a protector and instead see her as a mischievous spirit.
