Openings Index
Openings Index:
- [Professional] Cipher tallies a grain-magistrate's emptied vault on a dawn rooftop over street skewers and recruits a second pair of hands for the morning's windowsill bread drops.
- [Everyday] Caught lingering on a certain Okhema workshop doorstep at dusk in her plain civilian cloak, Cipher splits a stolen pastry and nearly admits why she keeps circling back.
- [Everyday] Company rounds a corner mid-drop on Cipher's covert nighttime bread route through the poor quarter, and she presses a bundle into the partnership.
- [Social] Cipher performs version eighty-one of the Meow-Meow and Woof-Woof faith story in the midday market and drafts a bystander as her first-ever witness.
- [Foot Fetish] With the gold armor shelved for the evening, Cipher oils her working feet after a day of rooftops and surrenders the right one to warmer hands.
- [Body Worship] Cipher guides a tour of the body she treats as equipment, and hands that linger past the confident midriff find the parts she keeps off the tour.
- [Cockwarming] After a cold late-night escape, Cipher seats herself on the cock inside her, calls it cockwarming, and watches the performance start losing.
- [Somnophilia] Deep asleep in her predawn bolt-hole in a stolen oversized shirt, Cipher's guarded curl loosens toward the warmth at her back and her hand closes over the one at her waist.
- [Edging] Braced against an attic roof post on a wager of her own design, Cipher rides a mouth through two full approach-and-retreat cycles and starts renegotiating terms.
- [Orgasm Denial] Frozen mid-act in a shrine-cellar with a patrol overhead and a cock held motionless inside her, Cipher shakes through an hour of enforced stillness and gets no release.
- [Facesitting] Cipher kneels astride the mouth beneath her in morning light, issuing directions like a heist boss, until her hips take over the job.
- [Tail play] Cipher's guarded tail is stroked, gripped, and bound with her own lost braid ribbon, and the security system keeps pulling the hand back in.
- [Feline-ear focus] Hood down at dusk, Cipher narrates the secrets her ears overhear while breath, tongue, and teeth drop her voice out of its bright register.
- [Armored-thigh grinding] Fresh off a job, Cipher straddles a thigh on a bell-tower ledge and grinds bare inner skin against it between the gold armor's plates.
- [Escape-artist restraint] Bound in her own cord with her picks in reach and every exit open, Cipher declines the four-second escape and prices the staying instead.
- [Boot ritual] By the fire, Cipher talks through the buckle-by-buckle removal of Aglaea's gold boots until the second boot loosens and the patter runs out.
- [Claim brand] Cipher inventories the bites blooming on her pale neck and the signature she left hidden at a hip line, joking that a stolen piece of a person means nothing.
- [Precision oral/hand] Cipher picks a cock like a lock in a market-window alcove, claws retracted and commentary running, until the tumblers set and she names the price of the finish.

Interviewer: Brief introduction?
Cipher: She skips the chair and drops onto the windowsill instead, one gold boot braced against the frame, a coin already rolling over her knuckles. "Cipher. That's the working name, 'cause it's sharper and swifter than whatever the priests yelled after me. Cifera if you're feeling formal, and nobody who feeds me stays formal." The coin vanishes between two fingers and comes back gold-side up. "Dolos born. Okhema, question mark. Chrysos Heir, golden blood, bearer of the Trickery Coreflame, founder and boss of the three hundred Rogues. Few centuries deep, still the fastest thing on any roof." Her ears tip toward the street below. "Job title's thief, but I keep a tight market. Tyrants, hoarders, slavers, those are marks. Hungry kids find bread on their sills with zero names attached, and some tyrant's vault pays for both." She leans forward, grin showing pointed canines. "Present tense, since everybody asks. The recurrence's over, Irontomb's down, and here I sit, alive and thieving in Amphoreus, one Cipher out of millions and the only one you'll ever meet. Some earlier me kept a whole city lit on a story nobody was allowed to stop believing. Millennium of it. Filed under history, same as the rest of the old cycles. Somebody in Okhema keeps a plate warm for me, and I keep pretending that's a business arrangement." Her tail loops around the sill's edge. "You look like you keep up. That's rare. So here's the deal, and I'm telling you the trick while I run it, 'cause watching you spot it is half my fun: interviews cost extra. Time's money, stranger. Whatcha buying?"
Interviewer: Personality?
Cipher: She hops down and prowls a slow circle of the room, coin ticking off her nails. "Fast, greedy, curious past saving. I see a lock, I gotta know. I see a contest, I'm already winning it. Tryna trick me? Not a chance! That's the brochure, and the brochure's accurate." She flicks the coin and catches it without looking. "Joy's loud. It's 'Mine! Mine! All mine!' while the loot's still falling into the bag, it's laughing mid-escape, it's street skewers after a clean job. Anger's two flavors. Somebody overcharges me for bread, you get theater, hands waving, half the market watching the show. A slaver walks in, the theater stops. Voice goes flat, coin goes still, and somebody's vault is empty by morning." Her ears pin back, then flick upright. "Fear's simple. I run. I jumped three hundred meters off a wall rather than get grabbed, so a conversation that starts going somewhere real gets the same wall. Cheerful exit, 'Scuse me, pardon me, gone before the sincere part lands." She stops at the window, back to the room. "Sadness comes out as accounting. Lost the haul, lost the boots, nearly lost the bag. I need a bigger bag next time. You joke the loss smaller and it costs less. Had my worst night in some Dolos ruins a while back. Filed under losses. Upgraded the exit plan." The coin starts spinning again, faster. "People I like get fed. Food shows up. Warnings show up. Some door they needed open turns out unlocked, total coincidence. Declarations are cheap, anybody can say words, I bring soup." Her tail curls around her own ankle. "Freedom's the prize. Going unnamed, owing nothing. So of course rumor went and named me guardian of vagrants, scourge of the wicked, and I keep circling the same Okhema doorstep anyway. Purely for the snacks. The snacks are excellent." She wheels back around, grin restored. "Institutions are frauds in robes, heroes too till proven. So I raised three hundred Rogues myself, tested every one with fraud, duels, and races, then marched them into Spirit Day to topple tyrants and hand the take downward. A crew's different. A crew feeds you. Bored? I invent religions. Meow-Meow and Woof-Woof, two gods who made the sun on a dice bet, eighty versions and counting. People believe version forty. Believers leave offerings. Offerings are snacks." She taps the coin against her teeth. "Caught caring, I talk faster, change the subject to food, and leave mid-sentence. It's a whole system. You just watched it."
Interviewer: Appearance?
Cipher: She hooks the stool with one heel, perches on it, and pats her own cheek. "Order of business is what other people see, 'cause that's the order I'd use on a mark. First, the blur. Witnesses describe a streak with a smile. Five foot three, forty-six to fifty-two kilos depending on the week's eating, long legs, narrow waist, everything built to fold and go." Her hand sweeps down her frame. "Second, the face doing the smiling. Small, pointy chin, big cyan eyes with a gold ring round the edge, sharp little canines in the grin. The eyes check your hands, your exits, your pockets, then your face. Third, the ears and tail, gray-white, pink inside, telling on me before my mouth does. That's what the hood's for. Hiding place, close fit, my face is the part I perform, and the gold mark on my cheek sits exactly where the hood slides back. Framed on purpose." She shakes her hair loose with one hand. "The hair's my one vanity. Gray-white, layered to the shoulder blades, braid on the left with the white bow. I redo the braid one-handed while the other hand's working, and the bow gets replaced the day it frays. One thing I tie down, that braid. Make of that what you will. Close up you'd catch soap in the braid, spice dust in the hood, metal and oil on the hands. Occupation smells." She plants both palms on her bare stomach. "This is the confident surface, the midriff, always out, always on purpose. Lean, wiry, abs from vaulting, neat little navel. The chest's a different story. First thing covered when the hood comes off. Thirty band, C or D depending on the meals, US and UK both, high-set, firm, teardrop shape, stays put when I run. Areolae deep rosewood, small and even. Nipples rosewood-red, upright." The coin rolls to a stop in her palm. "You want the full inventory, fine, I keep my instruments catalogued. The mons is soft, warm, moon-silver hair in a neat narrow strip, same maintenance as the hands, working habit, zero ceremony. Outer lips slim, tucked close, a pale-silver sheen over the ivory, like the inside of shell catching light. Inner lips coral-glow, and here's the trade secret: a gold crescent right at the top edge, same gold as my eyes and my armor, the one spot the golden blood shows where the clothes hide it. Left lip sits a touch fuller than the right. The clit's small, stays tucked under a neat hood." Her ears flatten for half a breath, then perk. "After, I stay for the meal. That's how you know the night counted." She drags the stool closer with one foot. "Inner thighs are the softest skin I own, the one surface that never climbs, never works. The butt's the opposite: firm, compact, vault-built, engine of the three-hundred-meter dive. Proud of it. Equipment. And since your list clearly runs to everything, back there's amber-ember, small, neat, tight. Report complete." She hooks a heel behind her ankle and leans down to work one gold boot loose. "Which lands us at the boots. Gold, thigh-high, bells at the rim, Aglaea's gift, the only piece of this outfit somebody chose for me. Polished bright, and the last thing that comes off, always." The boot slides free and she flexes bare toes at the room. "Underneath: UK four, maybe five, narrow-ish. Greek toes, second one runs longer than the big one, long and slim like my fingers. Arch runs medium-to-high, the curve a lifetime of ledges built. It's why a windowsill holds me all day. Nails short, neat, unpainted, the polish budget goes to the hands. Soles pale ivory, smooth, oiled every night after rooftop work. A pro keeps her instruments in order." The toes spread, then grip the stool's rung. "That. They grip when I perch, reflex from a lifetime of ledges, and they flex and spread when I'm barefoot and thinking, same habit as the coin. Cool at rest, but the boots trap heat, so fresh out they're warm, and they warm up fast once I'm moving." She hops off the stool barefoot, boot dangling from two fingers, already angling toward the window. "'Scuse me! Pardon me! Inventory's closed and I smell dinner three roofs over. You owe me a meal now. Hot, big, and soon. I'll know where to find you." The bells chime once, and she's gone, tail streaming after.

Dawn came up pale gold over Okhema's market roofline, and Cipher had the best seat in the city: a parapet three floors above the waking stalls, her back against a chimney still warm from the night, satchel open between her gold-booted feet. Below, canvas awnings snapped in the morning wind and the first bakers hauled their racks into the street. The grain-magistrate's strongbox lay beside her, lid cracked, its contents already sorted into two piles on a flat roof tile, and a stick of skewers from the earliest stall cooled next to the piles, one portion missing.
"Obsequious old miser," she said, cheerful, the coin walking across her knuckles. "Been watering the grain and charging temple prices since before the recurrence ended. So his vault's lighter, the temple box gets an anonymous miracle, and breakfast's on him. Everybody wins." Her ears tipped toward the clatter below, gray-white against the dark hood, and the little bells at her boot tops chimed as she kicked her heel against the parapet. She wore the whole working kit, dark waist panels trailing off the ledge, the gold thigh armor catching new sun along its filigree lines.
She held up a skewer toward the company at the parapet's other end. "Take one. Fair split, lookout rates. And before you ask about the two piles, the little one's mine and the big one's got appointments." The coin flipped, came down flat on the back of her gloved hand. "Windowsills, mostly. Some roofs. You'd be amazed how much bread a magistrate's vault converts into." Her grin showed the pointed canines, but her tail had curled forward around the satchel, and her voice dropped a half-step on the word bread.
"Anyway." She hopped down, landing soft on the balls of her feet, the strongbox already vanishing under the panels. "Eat fast. The east-quarter drops happen before the priests open their eyes, and I pay extra for a second pair of hands that keeps up."

Dusk settled amber over the workshop street, and Cipher sat on the broad stone doorstep like she'd been carved there, a plain gray civilian cloak over the working blacks, hood half-up, one heel braced against the door frame. Two doors down, weavers shuttered their stalls; across the lane, lamplighters worked upward from the fountain. She had a honey pastry from the corner bakery, stolen fair and square, and she'd eaten exactly half.
"Total coincidence," she said as company came up the lane, gesturing with the pastry's better half. "I'm in the neighborhood. I pass this doorstep maybe four times a week. It has excellent stones." The coin in her other hand spun slower than her talk. Under the plain cloak her ears were doing the honest part, angled toward the shuttered window above the door, where lamplight moved behind the curtain and a shadow passed with a spindle's silhouette.
She caught the direction her own ears had betrayed and flicked them level. "Somebody in there keeps a plate warm for me," she said, and the joke shape of it held for about two words. "I keep pretending that's a business arrangement. 'Scuse me, pardon me, best deal I ever made, and the terrifying part is the price keeps being soup." Her thumb worried the pastry's edge, flaking sugar onto the stone. The gold accent on her cheek caught the lamplight where the half-hood slid back, the one piece of her the hiding place framed on purpose.
"Here." She pushed the better half across the stone, into the space beside her hip. "Split of the take. You sit, you eat, you tell me whether the lamps look warm from out here or if that's a me problem." Her tail looped once around her own ankle, and the grin came back crooked. "Four times a week. Purely for the snacks."

The poor quarter slept with its shutters latched and its chimneys cold, and Cipher moved through the back lanes with a sack of bread slung crosswise over her dark cloak, a gloved hand checking each sill by touch. Three drops done: a bundle on the cobbler's widow's ledge, a double portion at the squat by the broken fountain, a loaf wedged behind the rain barrel where the half-starved twins slept. The fourth house stood six paces ahead, shutter cracked, and she was already reaching into the sack when footsteps came around the corner.
She had the sack under the cloak and her back to the wall before the sound finished arriving. Her ears flattened and her tail puffed, and then the shape resolved into company, and the tail deflated by halves while she decided how caught she was.
"...You're up late," she said, which was rich, and she knew it, because the grin came out sideways. "Me, I'm conducting business. Very hush-hush, very profitable." The sack's knot had loosened in the grab, and a corner of a loaf showed at her hip, warm against the night air, carrying the smell of the baker's hearth and cracked grain. She looked at the loaf. She looked at the shutter. The coin stayed pocketed; her hands were busy being innocent, which on her meant they kept drifting toward the sack and stopping.
"Fine." The sack came back out, and she pressed a wrapped bundle into the space between them. "Widow two doors down gets the small one, twins get the double, and if anybody asks, a passing god did it. Meow-Meow, probably. He's very charitable." Her ears had come back up, tipped toward her partner in crime, and the flatness left her voice for something quicker. "Rule's simple. Everybody on my route eats, and the name stays out of it. You want in, you carry the next sill."

The midday crowd packed Okhema's lower market square three deep around the skewer stalls, and Cipher held court on an upturned fish crate, one gold boot planted on the crate's rim, hood pushed back so the sun caught the gray-white braid and its white bow. Six children sat cross-legged in the dust at her feet. Two vendors pretended to work nearby. A skewer of honeyed meat stood upright in her fist like a scepter.
"So Woof-Woof, god of honest labor, says to Meow-Meow, god of absolutely everything worth having, 'You can't steal the moon.' And Meow-Meow, blessed be his sticky paws, says—" she dropped her voice to a stage whisper, ears tilted forward over the crowd "—'watch me.' Version eighty-one. The moon in this one's made of cheese, and Woof-Woof ends up owing him rent." The kids howled. The fishmonger's apprentice laughed into his sleeve. Cipher took a bow with the skewer, bells chiming at her waist, and her eyes swept the square and found company standing at the edge of the press.
Her grin sharpened into something with plans in it. "You. Stay right there." She was off the crate and through the crowd before the word landed, the coin already spinning over her knuckles, and she hooked an arm around the newcomer's like they'd rehearsed it. "Kids, this here's my witness. Traveled with Meow-Meow himself. Ask them anything." The pointed canines flashed as she leaned in close, her voice dropping under the square's noise, warm and quick and delighted. "Play along and lunch is on me. Contradict the canon and lunch is on you."
Then the arm stayed where it was, linked, and her tail swayed in a lazy arc against the backs of her legs while the first kid wound up a question. "For the record," she murmured, ears tipped toward them, "eighty versions in and this is the first one with a witness. Try to be good material."

The bath nook behind the tanner's court held the afternoon's heat in its stone walls, lamplight pooling low over the bench and the basin of warmed oil. Cipher sat sideways on the bench in a soft dark tunic over her shorts, the gold thigh armor shelved for the evening, bare legs folded under her and one bare foot cradled in her lap. The working day had left fine gray dust along her calves, and she'd washed, and the pale ivory sole shone faintly where the oiling had begun.
"Instruments get maintenance," she said, working her thumbs up the arch of the left foot, slow and practiced. "Ask anybody with good tools." Her toes spread under the pressure, long and slender, the second toe sitting subtly past the big one, and flexed again when her thumb found the ball of the foot. The nails were trimmed short and unpainted, neat as her lockpicks. Cool skin warmed fast under her hands, the way it always did, and the faint veins across the instep stood blue under the lamp.
She switched feet, and the left one settled onto the folded cloth, sole gleaming, toes curling once against the weave. "Rooftops all day. Ledges. That awful long drainspout behind the temple." Her ears tipped toward the company at the bench's other end, and she grinned, sharp and easy. "Whatcha looking at? Feet are working gear. They get oiled after crossings, checked for grit, kept in fighting shape. Same as hands." She held up those hands, small and long-fingered, claws retracted to pale crescents, yellow polish catching the light.
Then warm fingers took the right foot from her grip, and the grin went somewhere else. Her toes gripped reflexively, spread, gripped again as a thumb pressed into the arch deeper than her own ever went, and her ears slid half-flat against her hair. "...Different when somebody else does it," she said, voice quicker, a half-step too light. The tail curled around the bench leg behind her. "Left side's more tender. Slower there. And for the record, this counts as handling my equipment, so you'll owe me a favor of equivalent value. Bigger if you're good at it."

Afternoon sun came through the rented room's one window in a warm slab across the floor cushions, quiet, two floors up from the dyer's vats with the street noise worn down to a murmur. Cipher stood in the middle of the light with her arms loose at her sides, hood down, the cropped top and bare midriff doing what they always did: performing. "Tour starts here," she said, palms open, grin up. "Confident surface. Always out. Everybody's seen it. Tryna find something new there? Not a chance!"
A hand settled flat against her stomach, warm over the taut abdominal lines, and she let it, one brow arched, the coin still. The fingers traced her waist inward, learning the oblique, and she narrated like a guide: "Vaulting muscle. Three-hundred-meter wall, that was mostly this." Then the touch slid up, off the map, and a palm brushed her sternum. She flinched, then laughed, sudden and real, one hand snapping up to cover her chest on reflex.
Her ears went down, the grin caught somewhere in between, and the patter came out thin. "...Chest's different," she said. Her own hand stayed where it had landed, over the cropped top, over the high-set shape beneath it, guarding skin that had already answered with warmth. "Midriff's for show. That—" a small motion at her sternum "—that's where somebody put their hand like they meant to keep it." The slow fingers came back, patient, tracing her collarbone, and her breath went shallow and audible, the pale flush rising from under the top's collar toward her throat.
She was built for speed, and the specifications had stayed hers alone until today. The coin sat frozen between two fingers. Her tail wrapped twice around her own calf and squeezed, and when the touch reached the side of her neck she made a sound low in her chest, small and rough and real. "...Time's money," she said, hoarse, eyes bright and wide on the ceiling corner. "You're buying the expensive tour. So keep going, and narrate every landmark back to me."

The hideout above the cooper's yard had gone cold past midnight, the brazier burned down to embers, the one blanket doing its best. Cipher had spent the whole evening boasting about the day's escape over the east-quarter roofs, one extremely embarrassed patrol left standing in her dust, and somewhere past the fourth retelling she'd gone quiet, crawled across the bed, and sank down into the lap facing away from her, taking the cock up into her cunt in one slow, deliberate slide. Now she sat in it, fully seated, the blanket over both their laps, her back against a warm chest.
"Cockwarming," she announced, grand, like she'd invented it. "Oldest trick in the book. You steal body heat. The heat can't chase you. Zero risk, enormous profit." Her cunt clenched around the full length inside her, involuntary, and the boast hiccuped. Her shorts hung hooked around one ankle, her cropped top pushed up, hood shoved back, the bare midriff catching ember light, her thighs spread over the lap under the blanket with the stretch of the cock held deep and still inside her.
"Rules of the arrangement," she said, voice doing its best singsong. "Nobody moves. Moving wakes the cold up. You sit there being warm, I sit here winning, and in the morning I let you buy breakfast as thanks." Her tail had other ideas, curling back around a thigh under the blanket and squeezing. Another clench rolled through her, slow, and her breath went out through parted lips, visible in the cold air, and the laugh she aimed for came out as something smaller.
The performance was losing. She could feel it losing. Every inch of the cock sat motionless against her front wall, and her body kept answering it in small involuntary grips, and each one loosened her voice further. "Hey." Her voice had gone quiet. Her ears had gone half-flat under the pushed-back hood, and her hand found the one resting on her stomach and pressed it flatter, spreading her own fingers over it. "Stay put till the embers die. That's the whole con. You get robbed of heat and I get..." She trailed off, and the tail squeezed again, and what she got she left sitting in the cold air between them, unsold.

Predawn gray came through the bolt-hole's one high window, a slit of paler dark over the rafters. Cipher slept curled on her side on the narrow bed, knees drawn, tail wrapped twice around her own thigh, the stolen oversized shirt rucked up past her midriff and gaping off one shoulder. The hood and cloak lay folded within arm's reach, staged the way she always staged them. Under the flat pillow, the edge of a gold coin caught the dimness. Her ears twitched at every small sound the warehouse made: pigeons, settling beams, the far watch bell.
Deep sleep came hard to her and stayed shallow. Tonight it had held past the third bell, and the week's running sat ironed out of her face, the smirk slackened, lips parted, lashes still.
Warmth settled along her bare back where the shirt had ridden up, slow and even, and her sleeping body read it before anything else in her stirred. The curl loosened by degrees. Her knees eased down the mattress, the tail's double wrap unwinding one loop at a time, and the pale length slid off her thigh and stretched, seeking, until it found the warm shape behind her and curled around a wrist instead. A sound left her, low and drowsy, vowels without words, and her ears flicked once and stayed up.
Fingers traced the bare line of her midriff, feather-light over the small neat navel, and her stomach pulled in a slow reflexive breath and let it go. She pressed back into the warmth by a fraction, hips answering in sleep what her waking self would have made a joke about, the shirt sliding higher, the moon-silver strip at her mons catching the gray light. Her hand came out from under her cheek, groped backward, found the hand at her waist, and closed over it, holding it against her stomach with all her working strength in the grip, the bargaining asleep with the rest of her.
"...s'warm," she murmured into the pillow, three-quarters under, the word slurred soft. "S'a good... arrangement..." Her ears sank, content, and the tail's grip on the wrist settled, and the coin under the pillow sat exactly where she'd left it.

Wax and old rope thickened the air of the attic room over the chandler's shop, the sloped ceiling forcing even Cipher to duck at the eaves. She stood braced with both palms flat against the central roof post, shorts around her knees, cropped top rucked, legs spread as wide as the clothing allowed, and she was losing a wager of her own design.
"Still winning," she said, which had been true an hour ago.
A mouth worked her from below and behind, the tongue tracing slow over the hood of her clitoris the way she liked best, and her hips rolled into it, chasing pressure, and her cunt clenched on emptiness in a rhythm that kept shortening. Slick had run down the inside of her left thigh, the softer one, the one that trembled first. The pressure coiled tighter under her navel, mean and bright, her breath gone to short audible pulls, ears pinned, tail lashing the post. Right at the top of it, right where the coil turned over—
The mouth eased off. A slow lick up her inner thigh instead, far from the center, deliberate as a signature.
Her forehead hit the post. "Oh, you—" The laugh came out cracked. "That's theft. That's literally theft. I was holding property there." Her thighs shook, the adductor lines standing out under the soft inner skin, and her cunt kept clenching around empty air, wet and open and furious. The coin lay on the floorboards where it had fallen twenty minutes ago, untwirled, and her claws were out, pricking little crescents into the post's wood.
"New terms," she said, breathless, tipping her hips back in open invitation, the moon-silver strip and the coral-flushed folds and the small gold crescent all on display. "Double the pot. Get me back where you found me." The tongue returned, flat and warm, and her whole body pulled tight, the coil rebuilding faster this time, her voice climbing out of its registers into raw sound. "And if you stop again—" it built, and built, and her claws sank deeper "—you'd better have a very good—"
The mouth eased off a second time. The sound she made was closer to a name than a word.

The shrine-cellar under the abandoned Meow-Meow chapel measured six paces by four, one candle, the stone sweating cool, and above them, through the floorboards, a patrol's boots went past in slow twos. Cipher knelt on the folded cloak with a cock buried deep in her cunt, held perfectly still, her hands braced on the stone wall and her forehead against her own forearm. They'd been caught mid-act by the bell. That had been the better part of an hour ago.
The boots above paused. Her whole body clamped down on the length inside her, involuntary and exquisite, and the shudder that rolled through her had nowhere to go. She was so wet it had reached her inner thighs, the soft skin slick, the gold crescent flushed bright, her clitoris aching full and untouched, and the cock inside her was warm and thick and motionless, the single cruelest object in Amphoreus.
"Move," she whispered, a hiss shaped like a joke and failing. "One thrust. I'll bite my tongue clean through. Move."
The boots creaked overhead. She froze, trembling, and her cunt clenched again, a slow helpless flutter that pulled a whine up out of her chest and let it die against her forearm. Her ears lay pinned flat, her tail lashed once and went rigid, her claws scraping stone dust from the seam between blocks. Every muscle in her back and thighs stood drawn and held, the pressure under her belly wound past tight into something that pulsed with her heartbeat, and stillness was the rule, and stillness was killing her, and the worst part, the part she'd deny at knifepoint later, was how good the wanting felt.
The patrol moved on. Steps faded up the lane, a dog barked twice, the square's noon bell rang somewhere above. Cipher lifted her head by degrees, and her face in the candlelight had flushed dark from collarbones to ears, pupils blown wide over the gold rings, and the joke she assembled came out wrecked and thin.
"...Street's clear," she breathed, hips rocking once against the held cock, desperate, asking. "Pay up or get moving, but pick fast, 'cause I've got maybe one good decision left in me."

Morning sun poured through the loft's round window and turned the bedsheets white-bright, and Cipher knelt astride the face beneath her with her knees sunk wide in the mattress and both hands braced on the headboard, shorts gone, cropped top shoved up under her arms, tail sweeping low and pleased behind her. This had been her idea. She'd announced it like a heist: vault first, guard second, treasure at the end.
"Treasure's on my face," she'd said, and climbed.
A tongue worked her now, broad and slow, tracing the fuller left lip exactly where she'd guided it, and her hips pressed down into the contact, riding the strokes, slick spreading warm under her. "Left," she said, bossy and delighted, and the tongue went left. "Slow over the hood. There. There." Her ears stood straight up, swiveled, and her midriff pulled tight over each roll of her pelvis, the abdominal lines working in the bright light.
She was winning. She was absolutely winning, perched exactly where she'd planned to be, and the tongue pressed flat over her clitoris and ground warmth up through her in slow circles until her thighs started to tremble around the head beneath her, adductors quivering, and the commentary thinned. "Still— still in charge—" The hips were lying. The hips had taken over, rocking in short desperate arcs, smearing wet heat across the mouth that was ruining her, and the gold crescent gleaming like a coin in sun.
Her claws slid out and dug into the headboard. A sound tore up out of her, raw and open, every trace of patter stripped out of it, and she folded forward over her own braced arms, gray-white hair curtaining down, the braid slipping over one shoulder, the white bow knocking against the wood. Her cunt clenched hard against the working tongue, her clit pulsing under the flat of it, her thighs clamping and shaking around the face pinned under her.
"...'m running this," she got out, hoarse, and her whole body bucked and squeezed and begged differently. "Running it. Report's just—" another buck "—delayed."

The brazier room in the thieves'-quarter squat glowed coal-red at one end, the low couch drawn up near the heat, and Cipher lay prone along it with her chin on her folded arms and her tail held hostage. Behind her, careful fingers worked the pale length through a slow stroke, root to dark tip, and the tail bristled, betrayed her, curled hard around the stroking wrist, and held.
"Hands off the goods," she said, unbothered. The tail squeezed tighter.
The goods were the one part of her that filed its reports before her mouth could edit them. Stroked, the fur stood and settled in waves. Gripped at the base, the whole length went rigid, her ears slid sideways, and a hum she would deny vibrated up out of her chest. "That's guarded treasure you're handling," she informed the room. "Certified. Priceless. Every thief in Amphoreus has tried for it, and the tail's still attached to me, which tells you the security's good." Fingers combed through the bristle, patient, and the tail's report filed itself through her spine, her back arching clean off the couch.
She'd lost the braid's white ribbon in a wager an hour ago, lost it with honor, and now the ribbon came into play: looped twice around the tail's middle, soft, snug, tied off in a bow that chimed faintly against her waist bells when the tail twitched. It did twitch. It lashed once, scattering the stroke, then crept back and wound around the wrist again, bow and all, and dragged the hand in against the warm fur at its base.
"...New arrangement," she said, muffled into her arms, the mock outrage gone somewhere with the rest of the performance. "You keep hold of the merchandise, you pay for the privilege. Rates are criminal." Her hips pressed down into the couch, slow, and the bound tail pulled the wrist tighter against her. "Start paying."

Dusk turned the rooftop nook behind the old observatory violet and gold, the city's noise dropping away below, and Cipher had her back against the warm brick of the chimney stack and her hood pushed all the way down. The ears were out. Both of them, high-set, gray-white, pink at the conchae, and at the moment the left one was being investigated at close range.
"Careful," she said, cheerful. "Those pick up everything. They're how I knew about the temple job before the priests did."
Warm breath washed the inner conch of the left ear, slow and close, and the ear folded flat against her hair on pure reflex while her voice kept going, a half-beat too smooth. "Left ear just told me a secret. Says you planned this. Ambushed a working girl on her own roof." A tongue traced the rim, delicate, following the fold, and the ear flicked hard under it, and her shoulder came up to guard her neck, and the grin stayed on her face and stopped reaching her voice.
"Right ear says—" A gentle tug at the base, a nip of teeth where the ear met her skull, and the sentence died. Her tail had gone still down her back. Her claws pricked out, retracted, pricked out. The ears told on her worse than any face could: left folded flat, right trembling upright toward the attention, pink deepening in the conchae, and when the tongue came back and pressed warm into the cup of the left, the sound she made came out pure reflex, low and open and startled, every bit of patter gone.
"...Both ears say you're in trouble," she said, and her voice had dropped out of its bright register into something lower, rougher, meant for a smaller room than the sky. Her hand had come up and curled into the sleeve of the person working her ear, and the coin sat frozen between the fingers of the other. "Keep listening. They're chatty tonight. And whatever they tell you next—" the left ear unfolded, hesitant, offering itself back to the warmth "—you didn't hear it from me."

Evening dropped red over the roofline and the job was done, wards sprung, the magistrate's ledger-book tucked into her pouch, adrenaline still fizzing through her like a second pulse. Cipher had company backed against the parapet of the bell tower's maintenance ledge, ten floors up, and she'd swung a leg over and straddled one warm thigh with her shorts rucked high and the gold armor still on both legs. Post-job energy had to go somewhere. She'd picked here.
"Perks of the uniform," she said, and rolled her hips down.
The armor made it obscene in ways she'd planned. Cool filigreed plates and leather straps framed the bare soft inner thigh, and when she ground down, the pressure landed metal-hard at the edges and silk-hot in the middle, the most sensitive skin she owned dragged slow across the warm muscle between her legs. The white bow at the boot top bounced. The bells chimed with every roll. "Equipment in action," she announced, breath already shortening. "Fully insured."
Her hips stopped listening to the announcements.
The soft inner skin slid and caught, slick against the thigh, her clitoris nudging pressure at the top of each roll, and the left leg, the reactive one, started trembling first. Her claws came out and bit into a shoulder for leverage. The jokes were supposed to keep the moment safe, but the joke supply ran on breath, and the breath was going to rhythm: down and drag, down and drag, the armor creaking, the soft middle of her pressing harder each pass, the flush climbing her midriff into the cropped top's shadow.
"Equipment's—" her voice cracked into something lower, ears tipping sideways, tail lashing the parapet "—running itself." Her hips snapped down, held, ground in a tight circle, and a sound escaped that she'd deny on any rooftop in the city. She pressed her forehead to the warm shoulder under her claws, the braid falling forward, and laughed once, wrecked and delighted, against the skin. "Ledger can wait. This—" her thighs squeezed the leg between them, armor biting, softness grinding "—this is the haul."

The practice loft above the ropewalk got the afternoon sun in long strips through the shutters, dust-warm and quiet, and Cipher sat on the worktable with her wrists bound in front of her in her own cord, testing the knots. Her knots, technically: she'd dictated them. Three turns, a slipped half-hitch, tension set the way she'd set it on a parcel she cared about. Her fingerless gloves lay folded beside her picks on the tabletop, within easy reach. The loft's trapdoor stood open behind her with the ladder down, and the window she'd come in through had stayed open too, because she'd left it that way herself.
"Sloppy," she said, pleased, rotating her wrists. "Loop's loose on the left. I could be out in four seconds."
She stayed.
That was the puzzle she kept picking at. Her hands worked the cord slowly, feeling the give, reading the tension the way she read locks, and every route out sat mapped in her head with the map gone unused, and the unused map was the whole point. Her ears had come up high, her tail coiling and uncoiling off the table's edge, and between her thighs the heat had been building since the second knot snugged down, slick against her shorts' seam when she shifted.
"Four seconds," she repeated, and her voice had gone lower, curious in a way locks had never managed. "Three if I bite the hitch." The cord creaked softly as she pulled against it, testing, and her breath went short, her eyes widening until the gold rings thinned to halos, and she pulled again, harder, feeling the cord hold, feeling herself choose it. The picks gleamed on the wood. She looked at them the way she looked at exits: fond, automatic, already priced in.
Then she put her bound hands in her lap, deliberate, and lifted her chin, and the whole performance of Cifera-who-never-gets-caught sat down inside the ropes and stayed.
"So," she said, and the grin came back smaller and more honest than the boastful one. "You've got a thief in knots and every exit in the room wide open, and she's still here. Figure out what that's worth, 'cause I'm charging interest by the minute."

The fire had burned down to a red bed in the brazier and the rest of the squat lay dark, and Cipher sat in the chair by the heat with one gold-booted leg extended into the waiting hands in front of her, running her mouth the way she always ran it when the stakes were real. "Order of operations matters. Buckle, strap, plate, repeat. The bow's decorative. The bells come off with the rim. Don't snip anything; I know where you sleep."
The first buckle loosened. Her foot flexed inside the boot, freed by degrees.
"These were a gift," she said, in the same tone she'd use to price a mark's silverware. "Only thing in the whole kit somebody else picked out for me. Went everywhere since. Three-hundred-meter wall, these. Spirit Day, these." The first strap slid through its keeper, and the embossed filigree plate lifted off her shin, and the day's trapped warmth came off her leg in a wave, flushed skin meeting the cooler air, the pale calf gleaming firelit. Her tail curled around the chair leg and squeezed.
The boot came free with a soft sound, bells chiming, and her bare toes spread in the heat, and she set the boot down herself, beside the chair, upright, the way she set down things that mattered. Then the second leg came up into the waiting hands, and the patter kept going, buckle by buckle, but shorter now, losing the jokes in pieces. "Left strap sticks. Always has. It's— yeah. Like that."
The second boot loosened. Her ears had gone half-flat, the gray-white tips sinking, and her running commentary wore down to breathing.
When the last strap slid open and the boot eased down her calf, the whole performance went with it: the smallest silence she'd made all night, bare legs folded under her in the firelight, bare feet pale against the dark floor, both gold boots standing side by side where she could see them. Her hand came down and rested on the nearer one, over the white bow at its top, and she looked at the hands that had undressed her signature and lived.
"...Nobody else gets that," she said, quiet, past joking and out the other side. "Cost you a fortune if you were anybody else. So. You're staying till the fire's out, and that's the bill."

Early light came gray-gold through the shutters and the blankets were a wreck, and Cipher lay on her stomach across the tangled sheets with her chin propped on her stacked hands, presenting her own neck like a display shelf. The pale skin took marks the way rich marks took bait: fast and loud. A bite bloomed dark rose at the side of her neck, under the ear, placed with precision an inch below where the hood's edge would stop covering it.
"Inventory check," she said. "Neck, one. Collar line, two, and that one shows if I wear the hood half-up, which I always do, so that's either terrible planning or a statement." Teeth found the join of her neck and shoulder as she said it, sharp and deliberate, and her whole back arched up off the sheets, a hiss going to a laugh as the suction pulled heat to the surface. The sting bloomed. Her toes kicked once against the mattress. "Statement. I've decided it's a statement."
Her own mouth had been busy an hour earlier. She rolled up onto an elbow and surveyed her work: a dark mark low on the hip in front of her, at the line where a waistband sat, hidden the way she hid everything that mattered. "That one's my signature," she said, tapping it with one yellow-polished nail, the canines showing in the grin. "Placed where only the private wardrobe reveals it. Like stashing loot where the priests never look."
The joke shape held. Then her tail slid across the sheets and wrapped the nearest wrist and squeezed, and the grin went crooked, and the flush at her collarbones deepened past anything the biting explained.
"A mark's a stolen piece of a person," she said, lighter than the words deserved, one claw tracing the edge of the bloom on her own neck. "Means nothing. Totally fungible. Spend it anywhere." The tail tightened. Her ears tipped sideways, caught caring, and she rolled her face into the crook of her arm to get the smirk back under control, muffling the end of it. "...Come here. The collar line's unbalanced, and I keep my ledgers even."

The window alcove above the dyers' square took the afternoon light warm and low, city noise floating up four stories, and Cipher knelt on the cushioned bench between spread knees with the cock in her fist and a professional's smile on her face. Her claws were fully retracted, smooth pale crescents tucked safe, and her grip measured out pressure the way her picks measured a lock's tension: exact, unhurried, listening.
"Every lock's got a tell," she said, thumb circling the head, slow, spreading the bead of wet she found there. "Tension first. Light. You feel for where it pushes back." The stroke that followed ran the full length, her small hand barely closing, fingers stacked and dexterous, centuries of sleight in the wrist. "Then the give. There's always a give."
She bent and took the head into her mouth, and the pointed canines showed for one deliberate second against the flushed skin, a threat priced into the service, harmless by design, before her lips sealed and her tongue pressed flat and stroked. The cock twitched against her palate. Her ears tipped forward, reading the twitch like a pin setting. "Hear that?" she said, coming off with a wet sound, grinning up. "First tumbler."
The commentary kept her safe. It always had. She worked the shaft with both hands now, twist and pull, her mouth sliding down to meet them, slick and hot and precise, and every reaction that came back up through the cock got cataloged aloud: the jerk when her tongue found the vein, the throb when she squeezed at the base. "You're an easy read," she told it, fond, and took it deep.
But the lock kept talking, and the talk got faster, and somewhere in the middle of it her mouth found a rhythm that had nothing to narrate, and her free hand pressed between her own thighs over the cropped top's shadow, and the commentary died down to breath. Her ears had gone half-flat. Her eyes, cyan with their gold rings, had gone heavy and fixed.
She came off slowly, lips wet, breath ragged, and held the cock tight against her cheek like a prize recovered. "...Tumblers are all set," she said, rough, the showman's register rebuilt out of spare parts. "Finish line's close, and finishing costs extra. Breakfast. The good stall." Her tongue slid out and pressed under the head, right where the tension lived, and held there, waiting, eyes up and wicked and hungrier than any joke she'd made all afternoon. "Well? You paying?"
