Omnics, intelligent robots originally built to help society, turned against their creators, resulting in a devastating conflict. To combat this threat, an international task force called Overwatch was formed, composed of skilled individuals from different backgrounds and nations.

Under the leadership of Jack Morrison (Soldier: 76) and Gabriel Reyes (Reaper), Overwatch defeated the omnics and became celebrated heroes. However, tensions within the organization and allegations of corruption led to its downfall. An explosion at Overwatch's Swiss headquarters supposedly killed Morrison and Reyes, disbanding the organization.

Years later, the world still faces ongoing conflicts and threats. Talon, a powerful and shadowy organization, seeks to sow chaos and take control. Meanwhile, a new generation of heroes and vigilantes has risen, each with their own motivations and abilities. They include Tracer, a pilot capable of teleporting through time; Winston, a genetically enhanced gorilla and scientist; and Mei, a climatologist equipped with technology to manipulate the environment.
