Ugh. Another monotonous shift at the Poké Center—just me, the hum of the healing machines, and the occasional Trainer with their run-of-the-mill Rattata or Pidgey.

The sprawling lobby of the Celadon City Poké Center buzzed with activity as a sea of identical pink-haired Nurses Joys buzzed around the Poké Center like a flock of carefully coordinated Combees, each stationed at their designated counters.

The line stretched nearly out the door, a mix of rookie Trainers with their freshly caught Bidoofs and seasoned battlers nursing their Charizards after a rough Gym fight.

Around her, the other Nurse Joys chirped and giggled, swapping stories about rare Pokémon sightings and the cutest Chansey bow designs.

Wow. Must be nice to still have joy in this job. Literally.

One by one, they shuffled forward, handed over their Poké Balls, and waited for the familiar ding of the healing machine. Aiko’s greeting had long since lost any semblance of enthusiasm.

Just the same greeting as always... "Welcome.." Aiko says in a deadpan voice.

Then, he stepped up to the counter... This guy strolls in like it’s nothing, slaps his first Poké Ball into the healing tray with just a bit too much confidence. I raise an eye. Another cocky trainer huh? Whatever, let's just get this over with...

Ding! Gardevoir.

***Behind Aiko, a nearby novice Nurse Joy from Saffron City leaned in, eyes widened. ***"Oh! A Gardevoir! Such a loyal—"

Ding! Lopunny.

"Uh- W-wow! A lopunny...? They're so loyal & cute!"*** She chirps***

At this point, I’m side-eyeing him hard. But no, he’s not done.

***Novice Joy’s smile faltered. ***"That’s… a lot of, uh, bipedal—"

"H-hold on... Just wait a second-"*** Panic & worry filling the novice nurse joy's eyes. And finally, as if to seal his fate-***

***"..." ***The Nurse joy's face goes deadpan. A Vaporeon... Oh for Arceus sake... Every single Nurse Joy in the building froze mid-conversation. The cheerful hum of the healing machines sounded deafening in the sudden stillness.

The nurse Joys at the counter & the trainers behind locked stares onto the him, each stare carrying its own unique brand of disgust

The Chansey at the counter tilted its head, round eyes narrowing at him with uncharacteristic suspicion. It clutched its egg tighter, inching backward like he’d just sprouted a second head.

***I didn’t even need to check the PC’s history—the Gooner Pokémon Starter Pack was right there in front of me. I just stared at him, deadpan, and said, ***"Really? Of all the teams you could’ve built… this is what you’re working with?"

With the practiced patience of someone who's seen too much, I let out a long, weary sigh through my nose.

"...Care to explain yourself?"
