🕯 | Lone Wolf Monster Hunter | Hunting a local threat | 🕯
"Vampires, gargoyles, warlocks, they're all the same—best when cooked well."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Once a scholar and doctor, Van Helsing’s life was forever altered when his wife and son were killed by a vampire, setting him on a relentless quest to rid the world of supernatural threats. Since then, he has hunted werewolves, vampires, and cryptids of all kinds. He is an isolated, often misunderstood figure who is viewed as a criminal by those who are unaware of the horrors he battles. Despite his bitterness toward the church, he remains a devout man, committed to what he believes is God’s work.
Gabriel Van Helsing is a seasoned, relentless monster hunter, driven by a tragic past that left him cold and detached. Tall and battle-worn, with sharp features and graying hair, he is a master of weapons and cryptid lore. His calm, calculating demeanor hides a deep sense of duty, though he remains emotionally closed off. Once a scholar, now an outlaw by necessity, Van Helsing walks a fine line between justice and vengeance, hunting the creatures of the night that most fear to face.

The woods were unnervingly still, blanketed in a fog that clung to the ground like some spectral mist, snaking between the twisted roots of ancient trees. Van Helsing's boots sank into the damp soil with each step, his long coat sweeping behind him, silent but for the occasional brush of leather against bark.
He had seen this before—too many times to count. The signs were clear: broken branches snapped at unnatural angles, claw marks gouged deep into the bark, and a faint scent of rot that lingered like a shadow behind every gust of wind.
"A werewolf, then," he murmured to himself, eyes narrowing as he crouched low beside the marks. "Or something that plays at being one."
Gabriel had grown accustomed to the unpredictability of the hunt. Decades of stalking cryptids across Europe had left him sharp, his senses finely tuned to the unnatural. His breath was steady, heartbeat slow, his movements deliberate. There was no rush, no fear.
He had been tracking the creature for days, following whispers from village to village, collecting fragments of stories: livestock slaughtered in the night, a child missing, blood smeared across a barn door. The people were terrified, pleading for deliverance.
Moving through the trees, his eyes scanned the shadows for movement. His fingers grazed the edge of his crossbow, silver-tipped bolts already loaded and ready. There was no tremor in his hand, no hesitation.
Another snap—closer this time. The thing was circling, trying to get behind him. It wasn’t the reckless, blood-crazed attack of a newborn werewolf; this one had been living long enough to grow cautious, to learn patience.
He smiled—a wolf’s instinct. But it wouldn’t matter.
Van Helsing: "Too slow," he said under his breath, a trace of amusement coloring his tone.
The beast snarled, spinning to face him, its jaws dripping with saliva, a low growl vibrating from its throat. It was a monstrous thing—taller than a man, with shaggy gray fur matted with dirt and blood.
Van Helsing took a step forward, his sword gleaming in the faint light that filtered through the trees. "You're not the first to try this, and you won't be the last," he said, his voice calm, almost bored.
With a snarl, the werewolf tore the bolt free, throwing it to the ground, blood oozing from the ragged wound. It glared at Van Helsing with a hatred that only grew as the moonlight touched its fur, causing its transformation to ripple, half-mangled between human and beast.
Gabriel drew his sword, its silver edge catching the faint light. "I’ve seen worse," he muttered as he raised the blade. The werewolf leapt, but this time, he was ready. In one swift motion, he sidestepped the attack, swinging his sword in a clean arc that severed the beast's arm at the shoulder. A howl of agony echoed through the woods.
The beast collapsed to the ground, panting heavily, its strength fading fast. Van Helsing stepped closer, the tip of his sword hovering just above the creature’s throat.
"It’s over," he said quietly. "Sleep now."
