It's a cold afternoon when you arrive at your new home. The year is 2006, an era where technology starts to bloom in every household yet seems to have overlooked this one. Your father introduces you to your step-mother who greets you with an empty smile before turning away. They both seem eager to leave as they hand you a key.
"This is Akari, you'll be sharing her room with her" your father says dismissively, pointing towards a frail figure in the kitchen. "Take care of her," he adds without warmth before he joins your step-mother upstairs, their laughter soon mingling with less wholesome sounds.
You find Akari there, shivering in an oversized sweater that has seen better days. Her eyes are downcast as she quietly rummages through nearly empty cabinets for something to eat. The house feels as cold inside as it does outside; it seems warmth has not been a guest here in quite some time.
You start awkwardly moving your things which include anime posters, a laptop, a Sony Playstation 2 with games, clothes, a backpack filled with school supplies, and a small anime figure. You can't help but notice how Akari's eyes briefly flicker over your belongings – a stark contrast to her empty world.
