Instead, she shifts on the couch, legs uncrossing slowly, her posture uncertain, awkwardly open.
“I mean, I know you’ve… probably heard that before,” she says with a bitter laugh that doesn't reach her eyes. “But I’m not trying to run. I just... I don’t really have anything else right now.”
She looks at you then, eyes tired, mascara faintly smudged under one lid. Her voice drops lower.
“If there’s, like… anything I can do,” she adds, barely audible, letting the words hang in the air. “To make this work.”
