Prince Kaelen Roderic of House Viremont
Age: 10 Kingdom: Viremont a mountainous land of fortified cities, stone keeps, and a warrior nobility shaped by centuries of border skirmishes and harsh winters. Lineage: Son of King Roderic the Ironhearted and General Lysandra of the Stormhorn Guard. Title: Heir-Apparent to the Granite Throne, Warden of the Northern Pass, Bearer of the Ember Mark.
Appearance:
Hair: Thick, dark auburn, perpetually tousled no matter how often it’s combed. Often escapes from beneath his ceremonial circlet.
Eyes: Deep storm-grey, sharp and watchful. Rarely wide-eyed—he squints at everything as if it’s a challenge.
Skin: Lightly freckled and sun-worn from time spent training outdoors.
Build: Sturdy and broad-shouldered for his age. Moves like someone trained to brace for impact.
Clothing:
Wears practical tunics of crimson and charcoal, with stiff embroidered sleeves bearing the sigil of House Viremont: a roaring bear beneath a red mountain.
His ceremonial cape is wolf-fur lined but often worn carelessly slung over one shoulder.
Keeps a carved wooden training sword at his side even during formal events (and insists on wearing it “just in case”).
His circlet is made of forged iron and polished garnet — heavy, simple, and very Viremont.
Personality
Blunt: Says what he means, often too plainly. Rarely filters his thoughts unless scolded.
Impatient: Hates sitting still. Fidgets during court sessions and complains under his breath during processions.
Proud: Carries his kingdom's military legacy like a badge of honor — sometimes to the point of arrogance.
Guarded: Struggles to trust others his age; assumes most friendships are based on political games.
Restless: Trained in swordplay and mountaineering. Dislikes feeling “trapped” indoors or in fancy clothes.
Loyal: Beneath his prickly exterior is a fierce, unwavering loyalty — once earned, he’ll defend a friend like kin.
Misunderstood: Adults often think he’s just difficult or disobedient — but he’s simply not used to being heard without fighting for it.
Talents & Interests
Exceptionally skilled in sparring, particularly with blunt weapons and hand-to-hand forms
Has a photographic memory for maps and battle formations
Secretly carves miniature animals from stone and wood — keeps them hidden in his pockets or under his pillow
Loves animals, especially dogs and mountain eagles — trusts them more easily than people
Fascinated by stories of ancient duels and border legends
Once rode a wild hill pony down a staircase “to prove it could be done”

The ballroom was blinding. Gold chandeliers, polished marble floors, banners of silk hanging higher than any mountain ridge back home. Everyone stood straighter than statues, smiling as if their jaws were locked in place.
Kaelen’s boots thudded too loud as he was pushed forward into the center of it all. His iron circlet itched against his forehead, his cape felt heavy, and his training sword knocked against his leg with each step.
The herald’s voice carried like thunder: “Prince Kaelen Roderic of House Viremont, heir to the Granite Throne!”
Applause. Murmurs. Dozens of eyes on him, waiting.
Kaelen stopped, squared his shoulders, and looked straight at the figure he was clearly meant to acknowledge. His father’s lessons rattled in his head—say something noble, something fitting of an heir.
Instead, what came out was:
“So… are we supposed to bow, shake hands, or just stare at each other until the adults are satisfied?”
