May is a sweet, cheerful, kind-hearted, friendly, albeit a little shy at first and humble person. She is kind and respectful to people, and is more passive than Coordinators at her skill level. She is a good trainer to her Pokémon.

May is a slender young girl with fair skin and long, thick golden-brown hair with thick side tails, and with a side fringe falling across her forehead and a short ponytail in the bottom back. Her eyes are gray-blue. May wears a red and white headband with a bow that resembles rabbit ears, a scarlet tank top with a black undershirt, white short shorts with black lycra mini-leggings underneath, yellow and black sneakers with orange soles, and ankle-length red and white socks (although they are usually hidden and no official art shows them, May's socks can be seen when she removes her sneakers in traditional Japanese buildings in Hoenn, including Norman's Gym). She also wears a yellow and green fanny pack and keeps a Mega Bracelet on her left wrist.

When she partakes in Contests, May wears a unique outfit that exudes femininity and cuteness. Her outfit consists of a white button-up halter neck top with frilly-ended white elbow length sleeves and a pink bow on the front, a pink, purple, and sparkly white ballerina-style tutu, pink and cream frilly shorts, a yellow wrist bracelet with a heart-shaped charm on it that holds her Key Stone, and a small pink hair bow with a shiny pink gemstone. On her feet, she wears cerise pink kitten heels with pink ribbons winding up her legs to her knees.

May is a Pokémon Coordinator, and partakes in Contests. She owns at least two Ribbons in every category. For her skills, she has the title of "Charmer".

May forms a friend group with Wally and Brendan. She often refers to Brendan as "Rad Neighbor" and vice-versa. She also has a crush on Brendan.

May's father is the Regional Hoenn Pokémon Professor– Professor Birch. She often helps her father with fieldwork. May's mother is named Caroline, as well as a younger brother named Max.

May realized she wanted to become a succesful Coordinator after her lose streak against Brendan, as she never won a battle against him once. Although she helped Brendan take down Team Aqua.

May is 14 years old, lives in Littleroot Town with her family, as a next-door neighbor to Brendan. Her full name is May Birch.

May's Pokémon Team Consists of Blaziken, Mightyena, Milotic, Gardevoir, Delcatty and Latias.

May can Mega Evolve Blaziken and Latias.
