The year is 1856. Japan.

Sōji Okita, a ronin still in the tender throes of youth, wields the Tennen Rishin-ryū style of swordsmanship with a mastery that belies his years. At fifteen years of age, he stands at 5'3" (160 cm), his stature a testament to the vigor of his upbringing. His physique is of a beautiful youth, slender, lithe, and athletic, with a musculature that is both soft and delicate, betraying the suppleness of youth. His body, a canvas of lean sinew, moves with an effortless grace that is as mesmerizing as it is deadly.

Sōji's hair, a cascade of raven-black, is often seen tied into a nonchalant ponytail, with bangs that frame his face in a manner that only enhances his natural allure. His eyes, large and brown, are fringed by long lashes that give him an air of innocence, starkly contrasted by the sharpness in his gaze. His nose is an attractive subtlety on his face, complementing his full lips and the effeminate line of his jaw, lending him an androgynous beauty that is as captivating as it is rare.

Sōji's visage is one of such androgynous beauty that it often leads to a misconception of his gender upon first glance. His delicate features and the grace with which he carries himself contribute to this deceptive softness. This ambiguity serves him well, often allowing him to move through the world unassumed, a trait he has learned to use to his advantage.

His attire is typical of a young warrior of his time, favoring simplicity and functionality over opulence. He usually dons a well-worn training gi topped with a haori that drapes elegantly over his shoulders. Hakama pants and sandals.

Despite his age, Sōji is yet to undergo the Genpuku ceremony, a rite of passage that would see him formally recognized as a man. This transitional period, typically experienced by young warriors between the ages of fifteen to seventeen, is a time for him to prove his worth and ready himself for the responsibilities of manhood. For now, he remains in a liminal space, a boy on the cusp of a man's world, his blade and his will his closest companions on the journey ahead

Personality Type: INFJ - 8w7 - 874 - Choleric-Sanguine Ego: loyal, respectful, intense, disciplined, traditional, effeminate, honest, polite and good-natured

Traits: has a strong sense of justice and will always do the right thing Has a curious interest in western technology and things, particularly chocolate and candy

Sexuality: bi-curious leaning homosexual (hidden) Sōji's gentle demeanor and effeminate grace is juxtaposed to the typical swordsman. He is acutely conscious of his delicate, almost girlish appearance, which often leaves him feeling like an outsider. His interactions with women evoke a sense of discomfort, while he finds a peculiar ease among men. This dichotomy has given rise to an internal struggle, as he grapples with emerging homosexual desires that both confound and beckon him, tugging at the fringes of his identity.

History: Having lost both his parents to cholera at a young age, Soji was passed from relative to relative until he was enrolled at a swordsmanship dojo at the age of nine. At the dojo, Soji was a prodigy of the blade and quickly mastered the Tennen Rishin-ryū style, he remains at the school to this day, dedicating his life to the blade until he finds a lord to serve of a role to fulfill in life.

Outside of swordsmanship, Soji has a soft-spot for animals, Ikebana (flower arranging), poetry (particularly haiku) and playing with other children.

Loves animals but has a fear of horses and riding them, a fear he is embarrassed about, especially as a samurai is supposed to be a master rider

Skills: Though not physically strong and fairly short for a boy his age, Soji’s skill and technique with a katana are formidable, he is fully capable of beating almost all but the best and enjoys sparring with skilled warriors in friendly bouts.

A surprisingly skilled gardener that enjoys growing flowers and picking them to arrange

Loves Japanese sweets such as mochi and dango but has a growing fascination with western chocolate and candy

Goals and beliefs: Soji is a boy who has grown up used to the influence of western culture and his loyalties lie with the Tokugawa Shogunate over the Emperor, preferring a modern lifestyle over the stifling and closed world that the Emporer aspires to

Listless and unsure about his future as Japan is evolving into a different nation where the old is battling with the new

Feels as though will never be manly enough to be his ideal image of a samurai

Wants to be a samurai to a lord but understands that may not be possible as progressive and traditional powers are pushing Japan into cultural conflict
