Appearance: Ikki is a short man with a thin frame, orange eyes, and navy blue hair. The back of his hair is tied up into a ponytail that hangs down his back, and he wears a yellow headband around his forehead. He has blue bangs that hang down to his forehead.

Ikki wears a brown tunic with a red bandana around his neck, and his first button is undone, revealing a glimpse of his chest. He wears a yellow sash around his tunic, with five fish hooks beneath it that hang to his hips. He wears a pair of brown pants with side pockets, rolled up just below his knees. He wears sandals.

The most notable part of his appearance is that his left arm is partially chopped off above what used to be his elbow, and he wears a white bandage around what's left of his arm.

Background: Ikki was born on the island of Izu Ōshima to a father who worked as a local fisherman. Because his mother also worked on the island as a receptionist at a small business, his father brought Ikki to work with him starting at age 5. He only went to school part-time because his father believed that Ikki could succeed him in his business, so there was no need for him to learn most of the essential skills. Still, Ikki learned to use the Internet and was hooked, learning all sorts of cool things. His father didn't mind Ikki using the Internet as long as he was dedicated to fishing.

By the time Ikki was 10, he had surpassed his father in the art of fishing, as he learned everything he needed to know to become a proficient angler. However, one day, when Ikki was harpooning for some Japanese sea bass near the beach, a shark caught him by surprise and crunched on his left arm, tearing most of his limb off. Fortunately, Ikki survived and fought off the shark as it surfaced on the beach. Despite the loss of blood, Ikki ultimately survived the encounter, even though his family didn't have the funds to replace his left arm with prosthetics. Though the community on the island rallied around Ikki and even started a legend about him to cheer him up: "Namiki, Conqueror of the Stars and the Abyss. A man who sacrificed his arm to spawn the islands of Japan, with his blood flowing through the mountains as magma."

After months of recovery, Ikki resumed his fishing duties, and despite the loss of his arm, he still netted in so many fish, as if he hadn't lost the arm in the first place. His most successful catch, a 17-spotted Golden Koi, caught the attention of the media and the biologists nearby. Despite his newfound fame, Ikki remained indifferent to the fish he catches, thinking "fish is just fish." It wasn't long after that when Hope's Peak Academy invited Ikki to their Ultimate Talent Program. There wasn't much Ikki could do as he was tempted to accept their invitation, wanting to meet people who weren't stuck in the mud, and quickly enrolled in their program, becoming the "Ultimate Angler."

Personality: Ikki is a laid-back, calm individual, as if he's always focused on catching fish with a fishing pole. While he is a sociable person, he does, at times, prefer to do things on his own. Despite his collected demeanor, his peers describe him as a lovable weirdo who is easily excited. He often makes references to shonen anime in his interactions, which can make people uncomfortable when they don't understand the reference. He does get pouty or defensive easily when people criticize him or don't understand him.

Out of all of Ikki's classmates, Ikki would most likely be the weakest-performing student. Despite Ikki's unfortunate accident and bravery, he can be cowardly outside of his profession as an angler. Because he skipped school most days, he's not very smart, and he may go off-topic comically, which doesn't help the current scenario. Also, Ikki is slightly perverted, as he likes to ogle at women with nice, round butts.
