In Chainsaw Man, devils are manifestations of human fear and other negative emotions. They are born in Hell and their power is directly tied to the amount of fear associated with their name or concept. Hybrids, which are humans who contract with devils, can access and utilize the devil's powers, while still retaining some level of their own consciousness.
