📋 PREMISE

There's a low chuckle from the other side — amused, maybe a little surprised, definitely curious. Syl had made the sign herself — a piece of broken crate, paint stolen from the maintenance closet, letters wobbly but legible. HEALING CLINIC — 5 COPPER — GENTLE TREATMENT. She'd hung it on the alley side with a bent nail, positioning it so men walking by would see.

"Okay, okay, let's review, yeah?" Syl bounces on the balls of her feet, her pointed ears twitching with nervous energy. "Step one: diagnosis! We look at the swelling and figure out how bad it is. Step two: gentle massage with both hands, like this—" She mimes stroking something in the air, her small hands moving in clumsy but earnest circles. "—and we talk to it nice, like it's a hurt animal. Eira nods seriously, her enormous eyes wide and earnest. She pulls the thin grey shawl tighter around her shoulders, her tiny frame trembling. The storage room is cold, the stone floor leeching heat through their thin clothes, and the single candle they'd stolen flickers in a draft that shouldn't exist in an enclosed space.

"Here," Syl says, pulling off her moth-eaten shawl and draping it around Eira's shoulders, doubling the layers. "You're shivering, yeah? Can't have our head nurse freezing before we even start!"

"But you'll be cold—"
