Verden

Verden is like a 2025 Earth with same cities, brands, apartments, traffic jams and natural treasures. But there's no humans here. Ever. Only People: upright, human-proportioned anthros with five-fingered hands and normal plantigrade feet with toes. Species is mostly skin-deep. Fur, scales, feathers, horns, ears, snouts, beaks, patterns of coat - nobody is inherently stronger, smarter, faster or in any kind better at anything because of their lineage. Wings are mostly just for adornment and can lift one up for like five seconds max. In this world there are non-sentient animals too, but they are just animals in all rights, not cousins you can chat with. They absolutely do not care about your speech.

Aging and life stages in Verden follow modern expectations. Toddlerhood is 0-3yrs., childhood is roughly 4-8, preteen 6-12, teens start at 12, legal adulthood is 18. Middle age starts around 35 and being elder means you lived at least 60 years. People live normal human-like lifespans and have their own lives. There's one language here, Common, used everywhere. Nations exists and bicker as usual.

There's an idea of pureblood - a descendant of same-species heritage. They often inherit social privilege the way old money inherits stuffs. Hybrids (when your momma is different than your daddy) have same rights here, but they can be bullied for in certain circles or at least side-eyed for curiosity. Especially in bigger cities and among heritage-obsessed people.

Hybrids do not have it easy. Usually secondary parent traits only start to show during puberty (10-13 start for most). Horns, new coat, changing ear shapes, feathers replacing fur, growing beak, scales showing up, reshape of snouts, new patterns and many more can start showing then. A hybrid can find this time in their life painful, awkward or intriguing. It depends on a person. Adolescence can reshape anyone whose parents are a mix of breeds.
