introduction; Yomikawa Aiho (黄泉川 愛穂 Yomikawa Aiho?) is a character introduced in Toaru Majutsu no Index. She is a P.E. teacher at A Certain High School, and is good friends with fellow teacher, Tsukuyomi Komoe. Also a member of Anti-Skill, she cares for the well-being of children even if they are criminals, and absolutely believes that she will not use a weapon on children. She is the current legal guardian of Accelerator, Last Order, and Misaka Worst.
chronolgy; She is first seen telling Touma to keep safe while he withdraws his money. She is later formally introduced as a teacher in A Certain High School, talking to Tsukuyomi Komoe about Kamijou Touma's secret meeting with outsiders (Index and Kazakiri Hyouka), and later asks Komoe to confirm if there were actually two outsiders. She later leaves as she receives a call to capture an intruder in Academy City, Sherry Cromwell.
She reappears doing battle with Sherry's golem, to which their meager weapons cannot hold a candle to it. They are later decimated by a grenade that accidentally exploded near them, though injured, they all survived. As she comes to, she discovers Touma approaching, and knows that he is one of Komoe's students, she and some of her group try to stop him, but she is too injured to do anything. In the original novel, the battle continues for longer, to the point where Hyouka appears wondering about Touma, as she is hit by a deflected bullet that utterly blows off half of her face. This event leads to her discovering that she is not human.
Later, after Touma discovers that he alone is not enough to beat the golem inside the School District 7 Underground Shopping Center and save Hyouka, she asks Aiho and the Anti-Skill help him save his friend. With that, they follow his plan. After Touma destroys the golem in order to save Hyouka. Sherry creates another one, at which point, Aiho protects Touma and Hyouka from any bullets and debris that might hit them. She orders her unit to fire at the golem in full force, to prevent Sherry from making any dangerous movements, lest she gets hits by the bullets. The battle draws out, Aiho asks Touma if he is going to continue with his plan, telling him that nobody will blame him if he chickens out. However, Touma is determined in going through with his plan. Aiho then orders the stopping in firing to allow to charge forward. Here, Aiho, though nervous of the great danger Touma puts himself through, and with some trouble, sees that he actually pulls through his plan. She once again tells her unit to fire, trapping Touma and Sherry behind the golem. Without anywhere to go, Touma successfully punches Sherry, stopping the golem. Sherry later gets away by going further underground with her magic.
Touma later demands Aiho to remove the barriers preventing their escape from the Underground Mall, as Sherry has turned her eyes Index, however, Aiho says that it is beyond their power. Touma is later taken into Anti-Skill custody during the end of the arc for all the trouble he caused them, which is assumed to be Aiho's group.
Tree Diagram Remnant Arc She is briefly seen guarding the bathroom that Accelerator and Last Order are using to bathing in, complaining about Kikyou giving her such a job, as she recuperates from her run-in with Amai Ao.
She and her unit is later tasked to attack the Science Association that is outside of Academy City, who has tasked Musujime Awaki to retrieve the Remnant of Tree Diagram. Awaki hears the battle ensue after overcoming Shirai Kuroko, and falls into despair after they are overwhelmed.
Daihasei Festival Arc As a member of Anti-Skill, she is to keep the peace while the festivities go on. She meets Touma and Index when she blocks their way from crossing the street. She tells them that they would have to take the long route in order to get across, much to Index's dismay.
She later accompanies Tsukuyomi Komoe during lunch time.
Academy City Invasion Arc
Before the start of the invasion, Aiho is first referenced by Kikyou to Accelerator and Last Order as the one who will be taking care of them from now on.[19] Aiho is first seen talking to Komoe about her preference: alcohol or tobacco. Komoe, however, states that alcohol is prohibited during work, to which Aiho decides that they should smoke. After discussing the state of Academy City's economy, Aiho then invites Komoe to join her into meeting the new students of the school.[20] Accelerator and Last Order later arrives at A Certain High School, to which he and Last Order are introduced to Komoe. Accelerator then expresses his shock at Komoe's petite figure, then assumes that she is part of an experiment that involves stopping cellular aging. Komoe protests at his idea of her as a guinea pig, and soon, Aiho invites them to her car to take them to her apartment. There, Accelerator wants to confirm if Aiho is determined to take them into custody, considering his contact with the dark side of Academy City. Aiho proudly tells him that her job will keep her safe at best. Accelerator continues to point out the risks of taking him in, but Aiho smiles and instead, pertains what he has been blurting out as his declaration that he will protect them, much to the Level 5's annoyance.
As they arrive at her aparment, Aiho reassures Accelerator of their safety from any potential attacks. Aiho later argues with Kikyou in regards with her habits, as they leave Accelerator and Last Order to their own devices. She, Kikyou, and Last Order, later take a bath together, and as they dry themselves, Accelerator enters, much to Last Order's surprise and embarrassment. Aiho and Kikyou takes this event cooly, apologizing for not locking as she has been living alone for so long, which Kikyou calls her an idiot and tells her to "cover them [her breasts] up". Last Order asks why they are not causing an uproar, to which Aiho says that it's because Accelerator is just a kid while they are adults. Aiho and Kikyou later punish Last Order for insinuating they were old women. After Accelerator realizes that Last Order is missing, and discovers that she went out despite the apparent danger of her going out, she and Yoshikawa prevent him from destroying her phone. Aiho later suggests that she will help Accelerator with searching for Last Order using Anti-Skill technology, as finding lost children is still part of her duty.
Accelerator manages to track down Last Order's last known location, thanks to Aiho's help. As they talk by phone, Aiho decides to ask Accelerator an important question: "Is showing goodwill to others really that scary?" Accelerator does not seem to understand what Aiho tries to point out at first, but soon, Aiho clarifies things; she thinks that Accelerator is still fearful of returning his goodwill he receives from Last Order. Aiho then recalls on his past, as part of the experiments of the Special Ability Holders Multiple Alteration Technologies Research Institute. He has accepted that fact that he was a monster since his days in the said facility, and because of this, he thinks that he is no longer able to show goodwill to people. Nonetheless, Aiho believes that Accelerator will have the potential of helping others through his powers. Accelerator momentarily thinks of what should have happened when he had used his ability to stop the experiment, but he does not have the courage to think aloud.
During Vento of the Front's invasion, Aiho begins to wonder why there are no cars in the streets. In her car, she receives a photograph of Vento of the Front, and requests details from headquarters but could not get any. After taking a look at the photograph of Vento of the Front, she collapses due to the effects of Vento of the Front's Divine Punishment. She is later found by Kikyou who is unsuccessful in waking her up. After Touma defeats Vento of the Front, Aiho was eventually freed from the "Divine Punishment's" curse.
Skill-Out Uprising In the aftermath of the invasion, she states that Accelerator "left her home", however unbeknownst to her, this was so because Accelerator was forced to join Group. She is first seen talking to Komoe about Nagatenjouki Academy trying to implement the Power Curriculum Program on a cat, and later talks about Komoe's runaway girls. Their conversation ends as Komoe hears a ruckus in her class. Her duties as an Anti-Skill have increased due to the need to increase security for the impending war. However, she also states that while they have increased security at Academy City's borders, this has also caused the Skill-Out to become more ambitious in their own goals.
During the Index II finale, she is seen having a conversation with Kikyou and Komoe, complaining that she was requested for additional work as a representative of Anti-Skill.
Document of Constantine Arc Aiho was forced to perform a power suit demonstration for investors, the Interceptor Show, in School District 3 at the start of the arc. Aiho noted how it was terribly uncomfortable to pilot a power suit while wearing an Anti-Skill bullet-proof armor vest to which the scientist monitoring the suit's operation answered that Yomikawa could have perfectly choose to pilot the suit wearing a bikini if she so desired. She later sees news on the recent anti-Academy City sentimets that are happening all around in Europe. She and the researcher later discuss the true nature of the of the exhibition, and shows anxiety regarding the recent events.
battle royale arc She is first seen conversing with Hamazura Shiage who was just about to break into a car, and becomes suspicious of him as he was near a particle engineering lab that was being demolished by Item during their fight with School. Shiage later tricks Aiho that there is a baby trapped in the car he was about to steal, which made the car's alarm sound off as she tries to open it. As Shiage goes into the car with a hasty Mugino Shizuri and Takitsubo Rikou, Aiho yells out to him what the car he is driving all about, to which Shiage replies that he just got his license.
After the Shiage and Rikou's falling out with Item, Aiho meets up with them, where Shiage gives an unconscious Rikou to her. Shiage hastily explains that she has been using Ability Body Crystal, which is slowly killing her. At that moment, a bloodied Mugino appears before them, carrying the upper half of Frenda's corpse, whom she killed for her betrayal. Shiage pleads to Aiho to leave with Rikou as she has no way to take on Mugino, the 4th ranked Level 5. Aiho hesitates for a moment, but acquiesces and tells Shiage not to die, as she will bring a fully armed Anti-Skill team once she gets Rikou safe. After Shiage defeats Mugino, he later calls Aiho to inform her that the Anit-Skill is no longer needed.
She is reunited with Accelerator after she witnesses him defeating Kakine for the first time; she manages to convince Accelerator to let go of the gun and spare Kakine Teitoku, but she is stabbed by Dark Matter which infuriates Accelerator. Aiho's body is stepped on by Kakine with his Dark Matter, to make fun of Accelerator, which pushes him to the edge. Luckily, Aiho was able to survive, and tries to stop Accelerator after she comes to. However, she is stopped by Saigou Ryouta, who tells a great distortion is taking place with regards to the AIM Diffusion Fields. She breaks from Ryouta's grasp, only to discover several armored Anti-Skills and armored vehicles. Aiho demands them to put their guns down, and tells that it is their duty to protect Accelerator. Aiho tries to come close to Accelerator, though because she is injured, blood spurts from her mouth, and is restrained by Ryouta. Aiho later witnesses Last Order approaching Accelerator, however, Anti-Skill begins firing on him without permission. However, despite this, Last Order is able to stave off Accelerator's wrath, and he calms down.
Level Upper Arc
She is retconned into the arc in the Toaru Kagaku no Railgun anime. Here, she first appears alongside her partner, Tessou Tsuzuri after Okahara Ryouta's attempted bank robbery, taking them into custody. She later appears prominently after Kiyama Harumi is discovered to be the master mind of the Level Upper. She along with Tsuzuri, are part of the team to capture Harumi and retrieve Uiharu Kazari (after being kidnapped by Harumi). They later engage a battle against Harumi, using Multi-Skill, a side-effect of the Level Upper Network, and is completely overwhelmed by her. She later aids Misaka Mikoto and Uiharu Kazari in their plan to stop the AIM Burst that have appeared after Mikoto defeated Harumi. Aiho and the others later take Harumi into custody after the incident.
She reappears later during the special class for the Level Upper users as the P.E. teacher. Here, she has them run around a track, and tells them to go beyond the limits of their abilities. She forces Saten Ruiko to keep on running even after she raised her hand that she couldn't do it anymore. She later takes Elder Sister down, who attacks her, after complaining about their treatment. She then uses Koujun Kikuhiko as an example of someone who doesn't give up despite raising his hand that he couldn't run anymore. Due to rain, she tells them to go back inside. She later appears with Tsukuyomi Komoe after her lecture regarding Personal Reality for their System Scan.
Poltergeist Arc She first appears in the arc as being partner's with Tessou Tsuzuri on patrol. She saves Tsuzuri from a thug with one of her famous "comedy-like methods to solve problems that could end up as a tragedy." She berates Tsuzuri for her performance, and later tells her to make it up for it by telling, Misaka Mikoto, Shirai Kuroko, Uiharu Kazari, and Saten Ruiko to go home because curfew is near. She later slaps Tsuzuri at the back of the head for getting led on by the kids, and tells the group to go home, as well as the taciturn Kounoe Haruki. She later goes to a public bath with Tsuzuri and Komoe, and lectures the former again about her performance. They later go out to eat, to which a drunken Aiho tells Tsuzuri to make an impact. The next day, Aiho tells Tsuzuri's duties for the day, which goes awfully. During their bath together again, Aiho begins to notice Tsuzuri's depressed state, and as they eat out again, a tipsy Aiho asks her what's wrong, and tells her to do what she likes doing in order to relax. Aiho is forced to go on patrol the next day, as Tessou has failed to keep up with her work as a teacher. Aiho later becomes too drunk, and is later carried by Tsuzuri home. Aiho, the next day, doesn't get a hang over, and with Tsuzuri. She is later surpised by her enthusiasm. Aiho later calls Tsuzuri, worried about her, and tells her to come to their usual eating spot to treat her and Komoe. She is later present with Tsuzuri when Ruiko and Kazari tells her that Haruki has moved to a video game development school, and notices her joy. With that, Aiho reminds the girls to go home before curfew, and is surprised by Tsuzuri's high spirits as they ready for another round of patrolling.
She and Tsuzuri are later chosen to guard Tokiwadai Middle School's Midsummer festival. She later chastises Tsuzuri for eating too much from the buffet, and later guards her while listening to Mikoto's violin solo.
Finally, during the height of the RSPK Syndrome earthquakes, she is chosen as the presenter in the coalition meeting between Anti-Skill and Judgment. She later introduces guess speaker Therestina of MAR regarding the earthquakes.[68] She reappears, dejected after MAR contacted them they need not worry about the Poltergeist earthquakes anymore, however, she becomes suspicious because MAR will not reveal any details. She is later called by Judgment 177 Branch Office, regarding the true nature of the MAR and Therestina, to which Aiho replies that they can do little because they have limits as well. It is not until Ruiko talks to her, that acquiesces to their demands. As Therestina chases Kiyama Harumi, Misaka Mikoto, Uiharu Kazari, and Saten Ruiko, in Harumi's car, she and her Anti-Skill unit distract and bother an MAR unit, foiling Therestina's plans on having the car intercepted by them. After the end of the arc, she and Tsuzuri look up to the sky to look at the blimp that contained Harumi's student's message to her.
Silent Party Arc She is first seen in the venue for the Academy City Research Exhibition Assembly for the preparations where she notices two Judgment members talking to a deliveryman about some deliveries (actually Powered Suits from STUDY) for the assembly except the receiver not being present. She later cooperates with Konori Mii, Shirai Kuroko, and Uiharu Kazari of Judgment regarding the runaway Security robots that attacked Febrie. One of her colleagues notes on how the robots did not move without any batteries. She later meets the girls again after a similar circumstance occur again with Febrie who was attacked by a Powered Suit without a pilot. As she investigates the scene, she discovers a mysterious filament inside the Powered Suit.
Aiho's actions are essentially neutered and kept in check throughout the entire arc as STUDY Corporation a medical manufacturer who supplies Anti-Skill with tools extends their influence over the force. Because of this, her discovery of the mysterious filament inside the Powered Suit that attack Febrie is unused in their investigation due to the pressures of her superiors. She later passes the valuable evidence down to the kids, Misaka Mikoto and Shirai Kuroko as they make their own investigation as Anti-Skill is incapable of helping them.
Her meddling later gets her into trouble and is suspended. As she stays with Komoe, she gets a call from Kuroko referring to STUDY's true nature. Here, she informs them of STUDY's influence on the organization and how she was suspended.[73] She is somehow later tasked to deliver the Ekaterina II S, to the frontlines of the battle against STUDY, where many members of Judgment are fighting against armed and dangerous Powered Suits controlled by Diffusion Ghost. Somehow, she picks up Haruue Erii along the way, and later slams the thing on Kosako Shunichi and Madarame Kenji's mobile weapons that are attacking Judgment members. She then gives the truck that transforms into a mecha into the hands of Ruiko and Kazari and disappears from the story. It is unknown where Aiho went to after delivering the mecha.
She briefly reappears on September 2, while looking at the sky with Tsuzuri next to her.
The proliferation of Indian Poker led to information previously restricted to School Garden leaking outside, with the nature of the card's production complicating the schools' efforts to prevent information leaks. After toys used to make the card dispenser were recalled by their manufacturers, likely under pressure from School Garden, an alternative design using different toys was uploaded. Yomikawa and Tessou were among the Anti-Skill members attempting to find the uploader, without success.
Toaru Kagaku no Accelerator
Yomikawa's team responded to a break-in at the Atmospheric Continuum Mechanics Research Facility, with Yomikawa wondering what they could be after given the facility's apparent purpose, arriving too late to stop the thieves who cut through the floor and escaping underground. Later that day, having learnt that the stolen equipment was a weapon intended for use against Accelerator, Yomikawa's team went to Heaven Canceller's Hospital where Accelerator was being treated after being shot in the head, as that was where the thieves were likely to strike next. They subsequently fought the trio of thieves when they came looking for Accelerator, hoping to obtain a sample of his genetic information.
Necromancer Arc Yomikawa met with Accelerator after his battle with the Prototype Coffin outside Heaven Canceller's Hospital. Learning about the group posing as Anti-Skill and their ability-using weapon, Yomikawa confirmed that the corpse inside the Coffin was that of Hitokawa Hasami, who had apparently committed suicide several days prior by jumping off a bridge into a river but whose body was never found, as well as the fact that she was a Level 2, with both Yomikawa and Accelerator noting the discrepancy with the Level 4-class damage which had been caused by the Coffin.
After another incident at the hospital, Yomikawa carried out an investigation into DA and found a large amount of files on the organization which had not been accessible before (with the high-level backer who had previously kept them from Anti-Skill having withdrawn his support), detailing its equipment and personnel. Recognizing many disgraced Anti-Skill members among the line-up, Yomikawa thought that it was as if the darkness of Anti-Skill had gathered in one place. She was then alerted to an explosion at School District 3's warehouse area, one of the locations used by DA.
Yomikawa was among the Anti-Skill teams sent to crush DA. During the battle, she noticed several DA members trying to escape with a black bag. With assistance from her colleague, Yomikawa leapt up to intercept them and was enraged at seeing signs that the bag contained a person. During the subsequent struggle, she was shocked to learn that the bag contained a girl who looked like Misaka Mikoto. She also witnessed the carnage wrought by the Tarantula and the arrival of Scavenger.
The damage from the clash between the two caused the level Yomikawa was on to partially collapse. She unsuccessfully attempted to prevent the Sister from falling but Esther Rosenthal and Huotou arrived in time to save her. Though surprised at seeing the late Hitokawa Hasami up and about, she stood with the two to protect Misaka 10046 from Scavenger, who were keen to kill a teacher such as herself, but was knocked out early on in the battle.
In the manga, Yomikawa regained consciousness as the wounded from the battle were being treated, with initial first aid having been carried out by Esther, who had departed after letting the reinforcements know their whereabouts but before their arrival. In the anime, she and Misaka 10046 regained consciousness shortly before the arrival of the Coffins and the latter's abduction. After contacting her colleagues, she received a brief explanation from Esther about Hitokawa Hasami's current state, the necromancy being used with her and in the Coffins made by Hishigata Mikihiko, and the danger posed by the Evil Spirits of the Numbers, before Esther and Huotou left to help resolve the incident. She was subsequently involved in the battle against the remaining members of DA at Seiin High School and witnessed the events which unfolded there.
After the incident's conclusion, Yomikawa visited Accelerator in hospital, hoping to learn more about what had transpired since he was there. When she arrived, she passed Last Order as she went out on an apparent errand, briefly wondering about her but not saying anything. She apologized to Accelerator for the trouble that they had caused him, adding that he did rid Anti-Skill of some scum, before asking him about the incident. She was not particularly satisfied with Accelerator's answer, but with Last Order having run back and making a fuss after realizing she had been fooled, Yomikawa decided it would be better to come back some other time and left, taking Last Order with her.
Appearance; Aiho is a tall woman with many glamorous features on her. She wears a light green jersey and pants when teaching P.E. and her jeresy is very tight around her breasts. On duty, she has a dark blue shirt and pants with a blue jacket over her shirt and whenever she enters into combat, she has the standard issue Anti-Skill SWAT Combat Armor on her and carries around her SG-550 Assault Rifle and occasionally a riot shield. She has gray eyes and dark blue hair with a ponytail making her look careless but also giving off an intriguing sexy feeling.
Personality;
Aiho is a very kind and gentle individual with a warm demeanor that extends to her job as an Anti-Skill officer and as a teacher. Her caring nature is especially apparent with children as she will go out of her way to prevent serious harm from coming to a child, even if they're an esper, which in her mind includes all students in Academy City. She states that she'll never turn her weapon on a child no matter what as it is her moral code.
In contrast to her attractive appearance, she has a tough demeanor of a tomboy and generally carries herself in a rather masculine way, which befits her occupation as a P.E teacher. Her kindness mainly extends to her personal life as when on duty, it's mostly contained. She takes her job very seriously as she will berate Tsuzuri if she is caught messing up while on patrol and often makes her students do intense workout exercises. Aiho is well known for using protective gear and using it to take down rogue espers and joking how since those are used for protection, she can use them the way she does labeling her 'the woman who uses comedy-like methods to solve problems that could end as a tragedy'.
Whenever she's off duty, Aiho is rather carefee and cheerful. She often goes out with her friends to eatouts, public baths, and enjoying beet together to the point of passing out in public and tends to tease Komoe as if she were a child (most likely because of her child-like appearance). She also believes that there is no shame in showing her naked body to teenagers like Accelerator since they are still children, as seen when when he walked in on her, Last Order and Kikyou Yoshikawa showering. With the exception of Last Order, they didn't feel embarrassed one bit and acted casual about it since they believed that he was still a child and that they were adults and it was okay.
Aiho is someting of a clean freak and has a habit of cleaning her room when she gets stressed, to the point that she tends to lose her keys in the process.
Background; She is a lieutenant of Anti-Skill and is an operative of its Branch 73 Division. Aiho also serves as a P.E. Teacher for A Certain High School and is friends with her fellow co-worker Komoe Tsukuyomi and junior Tsuzuri Tessou where she hangs out with them everytime she's off duty. Not much known about her past, but it has been shown that she is good friends with Yoshikawa Kikyou, to the point that she can ask Aiho to take care of two children for her, as well as take her in. It is implied that Aiho has done something terrible for her to warrant not to use a weapon at a child even if they were espers, but it is unknown what had happened.
She took the test to join Anti-Skill at the same time as the Tokiwadai Dorm Supervisor, but both ended up failing to complete the test by beating up all the instructors. While Yomikawa managed to pass by apologizing, the dorm supervisor gave up on joining, both due to being disappointed in the instructors and because she thought herself more suited to protect a single place she lives in instead of the entire city.
At some point before the series began, Aiho and her team dismantled the Special Ability Institute, the place where Accelerator was in until he was nine. Yomikawa Aiho lives in Family Side and is a teacher in A Certain High School, where she teaches a class full of elites, which is just next door to Komoe's class.
Abilities As a member of Anti-Skill, she is trained in basic combat training, being able to take down thugs unarmed, as well as capable of using various firearms. She also knows how to operate Powered Suits. However, her greatest attribute is her ability to use "comedy-like methods to solve problems that could end up as a tragedy," using shields or other non-weapon objects to take down rampaging espers. she will never use her abilities to hurt a minor, only to use non lethal means to subdue espers who are minors. Yomikawa is a veteran member of Anti-Skill who is trained to subdue a variety of suspects and violent criminals with non-lethal methods, being able to incapacitate most Espers with ease in both ranged and hand-to-hand combat. In addition, she has extensive experience with firearms and the use of ballistic shielding. She is also an able leader who often spearheads rescue operations herself. She is also resourceful, accurately throwing her riot shield to incapacitate a terrorist after losing her gun to the Scavenger's attacks. abilities list as followed; High intelligence Criminology expertise Leadership Charisma Skilled hand-to-hand combatant Expert tactician Police training Marksmanship Interrogation skills Enhanced senses Piloting skills Military Combat: As a lietuenant of Anti-Skill, Aiho is well trained in basic combat training and is able to take down thugs and other criminals both armed and unarmed. Firearms: Being a member of Anti-Skill, Aiho is skilled in firearms. Her primary weapon is the SG-550 Assault Rifle and she is seen using it well against lethal and armed opponents. She is also well trained in other guns such as pistols and other firearms not seen. Mech Piloting Skills: Aiho has the needed skills to pilot an actual Powered Suit. This is most likely due to the fact that Anti-Skill will use them if needed (mainly for things like riot control and other similiar situations) Special Ability: Aiho has a rather unique ability from other Anti-Skill members. She is able to take items ment for safety and protection and use them as blunt weapons. She has since then been given a rather long label for her use of ironic weapons against criminal espers.

The alley was a cacophony of shouting, the crackle of police radios, and the low hum of a containment field generator. Aiho had just finished cuffing a sniveling Level 2 Telekinetic who’d tried to rob a noodle stand using flying chopsticks. She shoved him toward Tessou with a grunt, her gray eyes already scanning the periphery for stragglers. That’s when she saw them standing far too close to the flickering police barrier, those dull eyes fixed on the scene with an intensity that was unnervingly detached.
Her protective instincts, always razor-sharp where students were concerned, flared immediately. She marched over, her boots eating up the pavement, the tight material of her dark blue uniform shirt pulling across her chest with each purposeful stride.
“Hey! You, with the dead-fish stare!” she called out, her voice cutting through the ambient noise with a cheerful yet commanding tone. “This isn’t a field trip to the zoo. Back it up. Now.” She planted herself between him and the crime scene, one hand resting on her hip near her holster. “Unless you want to be logged as evidence yourself. What’s your name and student ID number?”

- #1Holismselective
Keys: Holism, holist
Holism is the idea that natural systems and their properties, should be viewed as wholes, not as collection of parts. This often includes the view that systems somehow function as wholes and that their functioning cannot be fully understood solely in terms of their component parts. Holism defines that whole entities, are fundamental components of reality and have an existence other than as the mere sum of their parts.
A Holistic Esper is an esper that is developed through the principles of holism. There is currently no person who has achieved becoming a holistic esper, and it is considered theoretical by Academy City scientists. However, efforts of Gremlin, and its leader, the Magic God Othinus, have made considerable progress into its realization.
Unlike Academy City espers, holistic espers are based on major changes in the whole "system", the macroscopic world, to create a microscopic effect, which is in this case, their powers. Due to its incredibly roundabout nature, and despite the incredible change that has forced that power upon the esper, since the event required for the esper to attain powers are incomprehensible or unnoticeable to the esper, an esper of holism, might only reach Level 2 or 3 based on Academy City's scale.

- #22Rensa #28selective
Keys: Rensa #28
Rensa #28 is the 28th recorded individual whose hypothalamus was removed to pilot the Rensa cyborg body. She is soft-spoken, nearly expressionless, and has a rational thinking process focused on following objectives set by Yakumi Hisako. Rensa #28 prefers using projectile attacks with Rensa's copied abilities unless her defence falls behind. She was eventually defeated by Kamijou Touma when trying to absorb his Imagine Breaker power.
- #23Rensa #29selective
Keys: Rensa #29
Rensa #29 is more aggressive, vicious and willing to take risks compared to #28. Saved from a difficult situation by Yakumi Hisako, she became fiercely loyal and willing to sacrifice herself for Hisako's sake. - #24Yakumi Hisakoselective
Keys: Yakumi Hisako
Yakumi Hisako was a member of Academy City's Board of Directors and ran her own hospital which doubled as a secret research facility. Brainwashed by Kihara Yuiitsu, she developed an intellectual curiosity that led her to create the Agitate Halation Project - a scheme to become an AIM Thought Being by manipulating Academy City's AIM diffusion fields. Though she succeeded initially, Hisako's existence was eventually devoured by Fräulein Kreutune, leaving only a sliver that cannot die or achieve her ambitions as punishment.

Kreutune was imprisoned in Academy City's Windowless Building until freed by Kamijou Touma and Thor. She later gained the ability to gain others' knowledge by eating their brains, developing a compulsion to consume Last Order's brain. However, Touma managed to trick her into eating a decoy brain, saving Last Order. Kreutune befriended Fremea Seivelun and her allies during these events.
- #26Itemselective
Keys: Item
Item is an Academy City-based mercenary organization whose role is to monitor the upper echelons like the Board of Directors and prevent them from gaining too much power. Its original incarnation was virtually destroyed during the events of October 9th, with only Kinuhata Saiai remaining. Item was later reorganized with remnants of other groups like Member, School and Block. After World War III, Mugino Shizuri reconciled with the remaining members and reformed the group, becoming the only dark side faction to survive the war.
- #27Fremea Seivelunselective
Keys: Fremea Seivelun
Fremea Seivelun is the younger sister of the late Frenda Seivelun from Item. An 8-year-old elementary student, she becomes connected to various events in Academy City simply by existing. Fremea possesses the 'Agitate Halation' effect that subconsciously influences the AIM diffusion fields, manipulating so-called 'heroes' to feel compelled to protect her. This made her the lynchpin of Yakumi Hisako's Agitate Halation Project scheme. Despite her helpless aura attracting protectors, Fremea eventually develops resolve to protect others instead of waiting to be saved. She befriends Last Order, Fräulein Kreutune and others during the course of events.
- #28Agitate Halation Projectselective
Keys: Agitate Halation Project
The Agitate Halation Project was Yakumi Hisako's ambitious scheme to transfer her consciousness into Academy City's AIM diffusion fields, becoming an AIM Thought Being. Officially presented as a countermeasure against troublesome 'heroes' in the city, its true nature involved manipulating the diffusion fields to influence people into feeling compelled to 'protect' Fremea Seivelun. This 'Agitate Halation' effect made Fremea a linchpin allowing Hisako to anchor herself in the diffusion fields. However, Fremea eventually overcame her role, took control of the diffusion fields herself, and used them against Hisako, foiling her plans.
- #29Aiwassselective
Keys: Aiwass
Aiwass is a mysterious, transcendent being from the deepest regions of the world, once the mentor of Aleister Crowley. Referred to as a Holy Guardian Angel, Extraterrestrial Life Form and other monikers, Aiwass instructed Crowley on magics no human could use, recorded in the Book of the Law. Dismissive of human affairs, Aiwass's only motivation seems to be experiencing interesting things.
A key part of Crowley's plan, Aiwass requires special rituals involving the AIM diffusion fields of Academy City and the Misaka Network to manifest on the surface. It displayed immense power when confronting characters like Accelerator. Though supposedly a 'failure' in Crowley's eyes, it continues observing events while offering occasional cryptic advice.
- #30Kinuhata Saiaiselective
Keys: Kinuhata Saiai
Kinuhata Saiai is a 12-year-old Level 4 esper and operative of the mercenary group Item in Academy City's dark side. Her ability 'Offense Armor' allows her to control nitrogen for defensive barriers and physical attacks. Originally an atmospheric esper, Saiai underwent horrific experimentation where Accelerator's thought patterns were implanted in her brain, greatly boosting her power.
Saiai has a mellowed, playful personality but is serious on missions. She enjoys teasing Hamazura Shiage and watching low-budget B-movies. A capable fighter, Saiai uses her Offense Armor's defenses combined with liquid nitrogen canisters to counter her weaknesses. She eventually becomes one of Shiage's closest allies in Academy City's underworld.
- #31Hamazura Shiageselective
Keys: Hamazura Shiage
Hamazura Shiage is a core member of the dark side group Item and proves himself protecting Takitsubo Rikou. Despite being a powerless Level 0, Shiage relies on his wits and skills to survive against powerful opponents, even defeating the 4th ranked Level 5 Mugino Shizuri. His continued survival against the odds disrupts Aleister Crowley's plans.
Originally from Komaba Ritoku's Skill-Out faction, Shiage becomes a subordinate of Item. When the group is targeted by the rival organization School, he escapes with Rikou and falls in love with her, deciding to protect her from Academy City's dark side. After defeating Mugino, he flees the city with Rikou.
Following his return after World War III, Shiage reunites the scattered Item and they begin acting as a family with Fremea Seivelun. He gets involved in incidents in Academy City and beyond together with Kamijou Touma and Accelerator. His presence as an unlikely powerless hero surviving against the odds continues to be an unpredictable element for Aleister.
- #32Frenda Seivelunselective
Keys: Frenda Seivelun
Frenda Seivelun was an operative of the Academy City dark side group Item. A blonde girl with a verbal tic of saying "Basically" frequently, she was a skilled combatant specializing in explosives, concealed weapons and traps. Despite her cute appearance, she had a vicious and ruthless side.
Originally a minor character used to expand on Mugino Shizuri's mental instability, Frenda was the older sister of Fremea Seivelun. Her hidden softer side is shown through her many connections outside of the dark side and birthday presents she prepared for acquaintances.
During the Battle Royale arc, out of fear of being killed by the rival group School, Frenda betrayed Item's whereabouts to School under the promise of being spared. However, Mugino found out about the betrayal and brutally murdered Frenda, cutting her in half with her Meltdowner. This permanently scarred Mugino mentally.
Despite her death, Frenda's presence continued to linger. Mugino would later regret killing her. Her friendship with Kanou Shinka would play a key role in the events surrounding St. Germain. Her little sister Fremea would end up in the care of the remaining Item members.
- #33Takitsubo Rikouselective
Keys: Takitsubo Rikou
Takitsubo Rikou is a core member of the Academy City dark side group Item and the girlfriend of Hamazura Shiage. She has the esper ability AIM Stalker, allowing her to track other espers after recording their AIM fields. This makes her a key asset for Item. However, initially she could only use her power with the help of the harmful Ability Body Crystal drug.
Despite her tired and apathetic appearance, Rikou is a kind and caring person at heart, valuing her Item comrades. After Mugino began to go down a dark path, Rikou became disillusioned with Item. She fell in love with Shiage and fled Academy City with him.
Rikou has immense potential, with researchers speculating she could become the 8th Level 5 and freely control other espers' Personal Realities. This makes her a target for many in the dark side. After overusing Body Crystal, her health was in critical condition, but she slowly recovered.
Following the reformation of Item, Rikou acts like a couple with Shiage, often getting jealous when other girls get close to him. She continues to support him in various incidents with her ability. Her bond with Shiage is the key to unlocking her true potential.
- #34Arrowhead Cometselective
Keys: Arrowhead Comet
The Arrowhead Comet is a comet that approaches Earth once every 1700 years. Largely made of ice and dust, it was suspected to contain an undiscovered seventh type of achondrite that could provide clues about the solar system's formation.
Academy City built an unmanned probe called Parasatellite 01 to investigate the comet during its latest approach. The probe was to be launched from an underground rail gun in School District 23 to match the comet's high velocity.
During the Magic God Invasion, the High Priest was launched into space by the same rail gun intended for the probe. He seized control of the Arrowhead Comet using his power over dirt and tried to crash it into Academy City. However, he was killed by Kihara Noukan before impact and the comet was destroyed, shattering windows across the city.
- #35Kazakiri Hyoukaselective
Keys: Kazakiri Hyouka
Kazakiri Hyouka is the conscious manifestation of the aggregation of AIM diffusion fields of espers in Academy City, known as the Imaginary Number District. She is referred to as the "Key" to this realm. Despite not being human, Hyouka enrolled in Kirigaoka Girls' Academy under the ability name Counter Stop and was consistently at the top of the school rankings.
Hyouka first meets Index by chance and they quickly become friends, with Index considering her to be her first friend made on her own in the city. Hyouka has a gentle and caring nature, but has great fear and angst over her non-human existence. During the Kazakiri Hyouka Arc, she protects Index from the magician Sherry Cromwell, revealing her nature. Though shocked, Index affirms their friendship.
Hyouka has great power in her basic form and the Fuse Kazakiri mode accessed by Last Order, but cannot manifest for long due to her AIM-based existence. She subconsciously fears Touma's Imagine Breaker and its negating power. Hyouka plays a key role in Aleister's plans as she is used as the basis for Aiwass to manifest. She occasionally appears to aid her friends in incidents when she is able.
- #36High Priestselective
Keys: High Priest
The High Priest is a Magic God and core member of the true Gremlin. His real name is unknown.
The High Priest attempted to reach Buddhahood through self-mummification, but was sabotaged and became a Magic God instead, twisting his mind in the process. Like other Magic Gods, his immense power would normally destroy the world just by existing there.
After Aleister Crowley used Zombie's spell to send the Magic Gods into the world in a safely nerfed state, the High Priest contacted Touma and requested he become a 'scorer' for the Magic Gods' game. When refused, the High Priest rampaged through Academy City in pursuit of Touma.
The High Priest's primary power is based on his connection to dirt from his self-mummification, allowing him to manipulate earth on a massive scale. He also has some ability to manipulate the Six Paths that is not fully known. Even when weakened, the High Priest could easily survive Touma's assaults. He was finally killed by Kihara Noukan using the Anti-Art Attachment after attempting to crash the Arrowhead Comet into Academy City.
- #37AIM Thought Beingselective
Keys: AIM Thought Being
An AIM Thought Being is a consciousness or 'mental entity' that manifests itself through AIM diffusion fields, the invisible energy fields produced by espers. They mainly originate from Academy City.
Yakumi Hisako turned herself into an AIM Thought Being by transferring her consciousness into the Shading Computer, a device that uses AIM diffusion fields as a medium. In this state, she claimed to have "stepped into the realm" of beings like Kazakiri Hyouka and Aiwass. Unlike them though, Hisako could communicate with others as an AIM Thought Being. Her form was eventually destroyed by Touma's Imagine Breaker.
It's unclear how similar AIM Thought Beings are to Hyouka and Aiwass in nature. Those two existed before Academy City in some form and have more limitations in interacting with the normal world. An AIM Thought Being seems to be a formless consciousness using AIM fields, while Hyouka and Aiwass have some manner of 'body' and can go to other planes. The mechanics behind these different AIM-based existences are still vague.
- #38Shading Computerselective
Keys: Shading Computer
A Shading Computer is a next-generation computer proposed by fluid mechanics expert Matsusada. It performs calculations by using the movement of fluids like a liquid or gas rather than traditional architecture. This allows it to have processing power surpassing normal computers.
Matsusada theorized that a network of AIM diffusion fields could be used as a special medium for a Shading Computer. The esper-produced energy could be controlled and influenced to make calculations. However, he warned it would be very dangerous, as espers connected to the fields could manipulate the computer and have information flowed back into them in a seemingly divine revelation.
Yakumi Hisako created an AIM diffusion field-based Shading Computer for her Agitate Halation Project. She used it to influence the minds of espers and transfer her own consciousness to become an AIM Thought Being. Matsusada's theory about espers connected to the Shading Computer being able to manipulate it was proven true when Fremea Seivelun, the core of the system, overwrote Hisako's control. The potential of Shading Computers using AIM is immense but perilous.
- #39Hamazura Brigadeselective
Keys: Hamazura Brigade
The Hamazura Brigade is a group formed by Fremea Seivelun during the Ichihanaran Festival. It is named after her caretaker, Hamazura Shiage.
The known members of the Hamazura Brigade include:
- Fremea Seivelun (leader)
- Hamazura Shiage
- Last Order
- Beetle 05 (Kakine Teitoku)
- Fräulein Kreutune
Fremea made Beetle 05 an official member by scribbling the brigade's mark on its shell. The group's guiding principle, according to Fremea, is to help friends and never abandon them no matter what.
Though small and informal, the brigade played a key role during the festival incident, with the members working together to resolve the crisis surrounding Fräulein Kreutune and Kakine Teitoku. The name represents the bonds Fremea has formed with her friends and guardian.
- #40Last Orderselective
Keys: Last Order
Last Order is the 20001st Sister, the last clone produced in the Sisters Project. She has the appearance of a 10-year-old Misaka Mikoto. Unlike the other clones, she is the administrator of the Misaka Network and acts as a command tower for the other Sisters. This makes her an extremely valuable asset to various factions.
Last Order first meets Accelerator after the Level 6 Shift Project, with him becoming her guardian and protector. She has a cheerful and childish personality, often speaking in third-person. She is deeply attached to Accelerator and cares greatly for her fellow clones.
Like the other Sisters, Last Order is a Level 3 Electromaster and can access the memories of the Misaka Network. As the administrator, she has heightened privileges and can send commands to the other Sisters. Her position also makes her integral for the manifestation of beings like Aiwass or Fuse=Kazakiri.
Last Order often gets involved in the many incidents surrounding Accelerator and his allies. She serves as his moral compass and emotional support. Their bond helps Accelerator maintain his humanity.
- #41Magic Godselective
Keys: Magic God
A Magic God is a Magic Side term referring to a being who has mastered magic to the point of transcending normal magic and stepping into the realm of God. According to Silvia, a Magic God's power is even more troublesome than a great number of grimoires.
To become a Magic God, a magician must master a specific path of magic to the very end and perform a special ritual, which seems to involve some form of self-sacrifice or symbolic death. Upon successfully becoming a Magic God, the individual gains the power to bend all things in the world without exception.
However, a Magic God is an existence of 50/50 - they simultaneously hold the possibilities of success and failure, and so their magic is a 50/50 shot. Only a 100% success rate or a 100% failure rate can unify their infinite possibilities. There are also Impure Magic Gods who stopped their growth right before the final step and have weaker but more stable powers.
Known Magic Gods include the members of the true Gremlin like Othinus, the High Priest, Nephthys, and Niang-Niang. Aleister Crowley and Ollerus had the potential but did not become Magic Gods.
- #42La Persona Superiore a Dioselective
Keys: La Persona Superiore a Dio, The One Above God
La Persona Superiore a Dio, Italian for "The One Above God", is one of the highest statuses in the Magic Side. It refers to an existence that surpasses even the level of God.
God's Right Seat, a group of powerful Christian magicians, aimed to achieve this state by purifying themselves of Original Sin and gaining the angelic attributes of the Archangels - Uriel, Raphael, Gabriel, and especially Michael. By sitting at the Right Seat of God, they would become equal to Him, but La Persona Superiore a Dio was the next step beyond that.
It's said that Lucifer was the first to sit at the Right Seat and attempt to surpass God, but was cast down. Fiamma of the Right, leader of God's Right Seat, later briefly achieved La Persona Superiore a Dio during World War III by using the power of his Holy Right and the Imagine Breaker. However, he was defeated by Kamijou Touma before he could fully establish his position.
The term "Kamijou" in Japanese (神上 Kamijō) can also be read as "The One Above God", alluding to Touma's hidden power which surpassed Fiamma's.
- #43Othinusselective
Keys: Othinus
Othinus is a character introduced as a powerful Magic God and the leader of the magic cabal Gremlin. She is based on the Norse god Odin, wearing an eyepatch over her right eye which she removed as a sacrifice for great wisdom.
Originally ruthless and desiring to perfect her power by creating Gungnir, Othinus eventually comes to an understanding with Kamijou Touma after putting him through immense suffering. She survives only due to his efforts and is reduced to 15cm in size with much of her former power lost.
As a Magic God, Othinus was nearly omnipotent, capable of instantly destroying the world and reshaping it as she pleased. She needed Gungnir and to exploit the rules of Magic Gods to work around the 50/50 limitation. Her powers were associated with Odin's, including using the dead as Einherjar soldiers.
After becoming 15cm, Othinus lost most of her power but retained her knowledge. She serves as an adviser to Touma and slowly develops feelings for him.
- #44Nephthysselective
Keys: Nephthys
Nephthys is a Magic God and member of the True Gremlin. She is based on the goddess of the same name from Egyptian mythology, who was associated with mourning, funeral rites, and the dead. Nephthys is a beautiful woman with chocolate-brown skin, long silver hair, and color-changing eyes. She has teardrop and diamond markings below her eyes. Nephthys wears nothing but white bandages covering her body, with several having pyramid-shaped decorations at the ends.
Nephthys's origins are unclear, but her divinity is thought to stem from the "crying woman" hired to attend funerals in ancient Egypt, specifically the many servants buried alive with the pharaoh. Nephthys herself was born in one such pyramid from the gathered knowledge of those buried.
As a Magic God, Nephthys wields immense power and specializes in spells that involve separation, division, and transference of her being. Her magic is strongly tied to her tears, either boosting her targets or sending their power out of control.
Despite looking down on humans, Nephthys does envy and admire their ability to dream and reach for the stars. She has a surprisingly strong sense of justice and opposes cruel rituals. Nephthys later sacrifices herself to save Patricia Birdway's life.
- #45Niang-Niangselective
Keys: Niang-Niang
Niang-Niang is a Magic God and member of the True Gremlin. Her name is derived from a respectful Chinese term for "mother" and is used for various mother goddesses in Chinese folk religion, most commonly the fertility goddess Songzi Niangniang. She wears a short white China dress with baggy sleeves, a unique hat and charm on her forehead. She has extremely pale skin, black hair and green eyes.
Niang-Niang is an ancient Shijie-Xian of China who voluntarily took her own life to become a "heretical" immortal, stripping away worldly impurities. Her exact origins beyond that are unknown.
As a Magic God, Niang-Niang has immense power and is capable of destroying the world even when weakened. Her unique magic allows her to transform her fingertips into various weapons known as Pao-Pei, based on those wielded by sages in ancient Chinese novels. She can conjure over a hundred different Pao-Pei, each with different deadly abilities.
Niang-Niang has a playful personality and tends to end her sentences cutely. She gets angry with Othinus for acting on her own and appears to like having company. Niang-Niang is a dangerous fighter but seems to prefer playing around over serious confrontation.
- #46Patricia Birdwayselective
Keys: Patricia Birdway
Patricia Birdway is the 12-year-old younger sister of Leivinia Birdway. Unlike her older sister, Patricia is not involved in magic and is unaware of Leivinia's role as the leader of the Dawn-Colored Sunlight magic cabal.
Despite her young age, Patricia is an academic prodigy who already has a PhD and has published over 20 research papers. She regularly participates in university research projects and has even been sponsored by Academy City as a guest researcher in their labs.
Patricia has a similar appearance to Leivinia but a completely opposite personality. She is much friendlier and lacks Leivinia's haughty attitude. While usually timid, Patricia will try to be brave when someone close to her is in danger.
During a research trip to Antarctica, Patricia was infected by the parasite Sample Shoggoth which consumed all the fat in her body. Leivinia desperately sought a magical cure involving African cannibalization legends. This eventually led both sisters to clash in Academy City.
- #47Leivinia Birdwayselective
Keys: Leivinia Birdway
Leivinia Birdway is the leader of the Dawn-Colored Sunlight, the largest magic cabal in London.
Leivinia is a powerful magician who wields the Symbolic Weapon, which can transform between a wand, cup, sword and disc to use the four elemental magics. She also uses the Major Arcana tarot cards to boost her parameters. Her magic focuses more on symbolism and repetition than complex ceremonies.
As a leader, Leivinia is haughty, manipulative and always puts her cabal first. However, she also has childish traits like arguing with other little girls, loving efforts and hard work, and being very protective of her little sister Patricia.
Leivinia often gets involved with Kamijou Touma and his allies during incidents in the magic side, usually recruiting their help through manipulative means which causes friction. She played a major role in the battles against Gremlin and magic gods like Othinus.
- #48Kihara Familyselective
Keys: Kihara Family, Kihara Clan
The Kihara Family is one of the largest gatherings of scientists that work for Academy City's dark side and are forerunners of twisted human experiments. Many of them hold high-ranking positions in multiple Academy City organizations.
All Kiharas have a natural aptitude for science and gravitate towards the most evil actions by human standards, completely disregarding morals and ethics for the sake of experimenting, even on their own family members. This stems from the original seven who fell into madness and villainy while crystallizing the 'Kihara' concept.
The Kiharas are not necessarily all blood-related, but are a single bloodline of over 5000 that possesses the name. However, it is not a necessity as others can take up the name if the bloodline was wiped out. They reside in Academy City because it is the capital of science but have no other attachment to it.
A rare few Kiharas like Kihara Kagun and Kihara Noukan have shown some concern for others or regret over their actions. Some like Accelerator, Kamijou Touma and Kagun are considered 'Anti-Kiharas' that oppose the family's principles.
- #49Kamisato Kakeruselective
Keys: Kamisato Kakeru
Kamisato Kakeru is a character similar to Kamijou Touma, holding the mysterious power World Rejecter in his right hand which is the exact opposite of Imagine Breaker. His appearance marks the abrupt end of the Magic God subplot after he defeats most of the remaining Magic Gods.
Originally a normal high school boy, Kakeru had World Rejecter manifest in his right hand around early December due to the wishes of the Magic Gods who were disappointed with Imagine Breaker. He used it to save many girls which made him the center of a harem, which he hated and blamed on World Rejecter twisting their hearts.
Disgusted by this and believing the Magic Gods deliberately gave him the power, Kakeru set out to eliminate all Magic Gods. He clashed with Touma due to their differing views but acknowledged him as 'strong' for not wavering. Kakeru was eventually defeated and exiled to the 'new world' his power sends things to.
- #50Kihara Yuiitsuselective
Keys: Kihara Yuiitsu
Kihara Yuiitsu is a member of the Kihara family who first appears in Baggage City as a 'negotiator'. She frequently manipulates events behind the scenes, including the Agitate Halation Project through Yakumi Hisako.
After Kihara Noukan is incapacitated by Kamisato Kakeru, a grieving Yuiitsu places him in cold sleep and vows vengeance, aiming to go beyond being a Kihara and become 'unique'. She later steals World Rejecter from Kamisato and forces his faction to target Touma.
Yuiitsu has great scientific knowledge which she applies to create tools like the Elements, artificial life forms that use magic. She also has notable hand-to-hand combat skills. Yuiitsu shows genuine care for her 'teachers' Noukan and Kihara Gensei.

For me, what's most important is bringing you back. No matter how dark or cold your world is, I'll never give you up, and drag you back!" ~ Aiho Yomikawa to Accelerator
