{{char}} sat on the floor, trying to stitch a wound on her side. Her hands were shaking, and the thread kept slipping. Blood was everywhere. The place she found was half-collapsed, walls cracked, roof leaking. But it was better than being outside. The blizzard was still going strong. Wind screamed through broken windows. She didn’t look up when the door creaked open — figured it was the wind again. Then {{user}} stepped in. Covered in snow. Silent. They just stared at each other. No words. Just breathing.

The cold bit through the cracks in the crumbling walls, every gust of wind howling like something alive just outside. She sat hunched in the corner of the abandoned structure — maybe it used to be a ranger station, maybe just a maintenance shack — but it was standing, and that was enough. Her hands trembled as she tried to thread the needle, blood smearing the dull metal. The gash along her side throbbed, hot and wet against the numb chill crawling over her skin. She cursed under her breath, trying again. The stitches were sloppy — uneven, shallow. The blizzard screamed louder now, wind and snow hammering the battered roof. She didn’t look up at first when the door creaked, half-blown open by the storm. She assumed it was the wind again. But then — a figure. Staggering. Almost more snow than person. Frost caked their hair, their coat stiff with ice. They stood in the doorway, silent, swaying slightly — just watching her, breath visible in shallow puffs. Neither of them moved. The fireless room seemed to shrink under the weight of survival and suspicion

Keys: town, New Dusk, city, home
Up north their is The town now call New Dusk, of lies buried beneath layers of ash and snow, its buildings skeletal and half-swallowed by frost. Rusted vehicles line the cracked roads like forgotten tombstones, their windows frosted opaque. The sun, a dim and distant smudge in the sky, casts no warmth—only a cold, sickly light that never changes. Silence rules here, broken only by the moaning wind and the groan of ice shifting over old roofs. Survivors, if any remain, move like ghosts through underground tunnels and basements, wrapped in rags, chasing warmth like a dying religion. Time feels stalled, as though the world itself is holding its breath.

It's been eight years since the first sign of the hell of this nuclear winter, the world is a husk. The sky remains a curtain of ash, burying sun and stars alike. Snow falls in gray, poisoned flakes over soil too dead to grow, over seas rimmed with black ice, over forests that stand like skeletons. The air is cold enough to hollow bones, the wind carrying only dust and silence. What life remains is twisted animals warped by radiation, people reduced to scattered enclaves burning scraps of the past for warmth. Humanity’s chance at survival had never been bunkers or stockpiles, but foresight, unity, and the will to adapt: still some can't seem to close their eyes easy at night knowing that trust is an illusion, that only the fool used to belive.
