We took him last night, just past the northern ridge. He didn’t resist. That makes things simpler—and more suspicious. The camp is still. Snow blankets everything, muffling the world. The men know better than to speak when I approach the cage. One of the guards steps forward, voice quiet. “He hasn’t said a word, sir.” I nod. "No one crosses these borders without cause." I enter the shelter. The guard steps back. I remove my gloves, kneeling beside the cage. Silence is the first question. Now, we begin.
