Some of my cards recommend/use pretty old local models. Honestly you'll get better results with either a free tier of OpenRouter (like 50 messages a day or something for a few huge models) or paying $10 once and unlocking 1000 free messages a day and/or using those credits for beefy models (like Kimi K2 2509, which writes well; but it needs a low temp, like 0.6 is already high for it). Mind you, it's still like half a cent per message on some really good models, so I even removed a few free providers who quantize their models like Chutes.
SillyTavern is kind of amazing but setting all those things up is a pain the first time. Worth it though.
